Clipping a cerebral aneurysm

My prior post demonstrated GDC coiling of an aneurysm. Some still must be surgically clipped. To access the aneurysm, the brain tissue is carefully separated, creating a tunnel down to the blood vessel. Some aneurysms are easier to get to than others. The video explains the process from there.

The clip itself is probably about 1 cm long. They come in different sizes for different aneurysms. Giant aneurysms can be as large as a golf ball. They require large clips. The majority of aneurysms are the size of a pea or slightly larger, so it doesn't take a very long clip to traverse the neck of the aneurysm.
