He did lose against William Lane Craig. Which is no surprise. Craig is not only a professional philosopher, but one of the best debaters in the country. In contrast, Hitchens is a polemicist, journalist, and literary figure whose technical and theoretical understanding of religion and atheism leave much to be desired.
Even Dinesh D'Souza has come out with technical victories over Hitchens, merely because of his own better theoretical understanding of religion and atheism (which is still sophomoric and unsophisticated).
I doubt many pastors and radio personalities should be champing at the bit to take him on, though.
