Chris Harris drives the McLaren P1

Chris Harris recently got his hands on the new McLaren P1 for an episode of “Chris Harris on Cars.” This particular car is 15 months old, with 40,000 hard miles applied, but that didn’t keep Harris from adding a few sideways miles of his own.

Harris talks with McLaren’s Chris Goodwin about the tires, hydraulics, and of course power, before he takes it out on the streets of the Abu Dhabi. Later he hits the Yas Marina Circuit.

For a quick refresher, the $1.2 million P1 makes 903 hp combined from its twin-turbo V8 and electric motor, along with 663 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to the rear wheel.

Harris likes the car on the street. He says the ride, in the softest suspension mode, is firm, but completely livable. However, he is driving on the nearly pristine streets of the UAE.

At about the 18-minute mark, he hits the track. We’re not going to go through the list of superlatives, or expletives, that come out of his mouth. But we will say that he loves it.

Check out the video for all the slow-motion, flame-throwing, sideways-drifting action.

Not really, but they are equally ugly. Unless you have a Genesis Coupe, which is a little more pretty.

I like this car, I may buy one when my Hyundai dies. I expect they are comparatively priced.
