Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan raid Taliban stronghold

calvadossays...

From the Youtube page: Troops from Alpha Company, 2nd Platoon, "Red Devils" from Edmonton, Canada conduct a dawn raid on a Taliban compound on July 13, 2006 in Hydarabad, Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan. (The regiment in question is the PPCLI, or Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.)

By the way, the guy talking at the end has a distinctly rural-Prairie accent, lest anybody think we Canucks all sound like Coach Z

This is a good video. They had to be special forces, because only British, U.S. specialized troops, and these guys get the FN scar, and the G3A3 machine weapon, and it seemed they were all very specialized in their weapon selection. I believe the red devils have been around since WWII, and they made the climb of Monte casino, i think ... I'm probably wrong. I just know the group that they idolized in the movie was a group of convicts in Canada.

Good footage, its a little strange that all the footage we see from the war zone there is never an enemy captured on the camera, i sure hope the soldiers can see em because I cant. Its just a little frighting to be in a war zone and not see who is shooting at you, any one has played a FPS game where you get sniped by a well concealed enemy knows what i mean, now take it to the ultimate level. Infinitely worse than any video, paint ball, laser tag game ever was. Thats why I respect them, and care about where they get sent and why they are fighting.

Even if they are Canadian.

Nice post.

I don't see any SCAR or G3A3 here, dude... just our old faithful C7 / C8 (Cdn. variant of the M16 / M4), some with M203 grenade launcher. And at one point early in the vid I hear a C9 (M249 SAW) light machine gun.

Watch closer, i saw an M4, the M16 M203 grenade launcher, and my mistake on the M249 it looked like a G3a3 with the way the camera cut the handle seemed to be part of the scope. Ok no scar either my mistake on both, their version of the M16 sounds a lot more dangerous than the U.S. version. I would rather see the Canadian variant in U.S. use because the M16 is not the most faithful of weapons. Now the SAW thats a good weapon, first called the mini, commonly confused with the Gatling gun, put into use in Vietnam but not noted do to the M60s prowess.

Personally they need to switch over to Kalashnikov's, now thats a very durable cheap weapon.

Sorry i made a mistake, but those boys did a helluva job.

Our Canadian variant is really not materially different from the M16, so the reliability would be the same (and it's true the weapon sometimes has trouble coping with sandy environments). The internal workings are pretty much identical except that the automatic fire mode is really full auto, not 3-round burst. Apart from that you can move the trigger guard out of the way for firing when wearing thick arctic mitts (which we do in cold winter weather), and the weapon is made in Canada, licensed to Diemaco from Colt. That's about all.
