Campbell Brown Fights Back Tears Over Haitian Girls Death

I don't know about this. On one hand it seems like sensationalist reporting, a cynical person might think it was great for ratings. I'm very cynical of the news and things like this. At the back of my mind I'm always thinking it's just being turned into something over the top to get a reaction from the public.

The problem with this is that this isn't being made over the top, it's just what's happening out there. Over and over and over again. It's horrible, I hope they get the help they need and deserve.

I can't blame anyone for being cynical in this world, but she seems genuinely moved to me.
I think she just got back from maternity leave not too long ago so maybe she is feeling that connection with the plea to the mother, but honestly who wouldn't be affected by it?
I cried when I saw this happen live. There's nothing really sensationalistic about it, it's just sad reality.
Maybe I'm just naive.

You can't help but feel sad for what those people are suffering.. however :

I get profusely annoyed when they start doing segments on 'faith' and how disaster makes people oh so happy that they have 'god' to turn to in times of crisis.

Well. WTF people. Your so-called God allows these natural disasters to occur in the first place. So where the F is all the so-called 'mercy' and 'love' from this God? Look around at the world. Death, disease, war, natural disasters, birth defects. The list goes on and on and on. I don't see a merciful and loving God at work.

There are only three possibilities :

1-There is no God.
2-God is completely ambivalent.. basically doesn't give two shits about anything at all.
3-God is malevolent, and enjoys making humankind suffer and run about like ants in times of disaster.

Which God is yours? You can bet a pile of Christians will explain, as they have to me before, that disasters are the result of God teaching us a lesson. So.. as a result. Option #3 falls into that column. God is a fucking bastard.

If you can't find it in your heart to simply help or mourn with these people then just shut the fuck up and move on. You have no right to be "profusely annoyed" about anything. You are not one of the parents digging pieces of their children out from under rocks. Just like Robertson was wrong for that devil pact bullshit you are also wrong for chastising people who have faith. Don't share the faith? Fine. Don't belittle people who do have it though and who turn to it in a time of suffering greater than you could imagine. Really not the time or place for you to explain to the world what everyone should believe.

My comments had more to do with how CNN and other news organizations cover disaster, and the human condition to fall back on faith in times of crisis. I had a Christian fundamentalist personally tell me. "God creates natural disasters to teach us a lesson.". while in the same breath uttering "God loves us and is merciful.".

My wife and her family survived the Kobe earthquake in Japan. Far more died in that quake that in Haiti. I personally saw the results of the aftermath. The families living in temporary homes, even today there are people displaced. I have been in a few major (6-7) earthquakes and know what it is like first hand. Earthquakes are nature. Not an act of some invisible sky deity.

I have no RIGHT to be annoyed? Then you have NO RIGHT to be annoyed by my opinions either. How about that? What is that suppose to mean? No right? Please explain what that right is, and what power you or anyone else has over me or anyone else to grant or deny anyone the ability to express an opinion on the human condition? If I have no rights to an opinion, then neither do you.

Everyone has a right to an opinion. That is, unless you prefer everyone to simply shut up, lower our heads.. and hold our hands high and bow down to the will of an invisible magical overseer.

You shouldn't be angry at me. You should be angry at 'God' for letting this suffering happen. Me? I only say a few words. I don't kill thousands of people.
