Boston Legal Alan Shore Closing - Stick It

Quboidsays...

Anyone see this? Did he win?

If I was a juror I'd be holding my laughter back. Yes, things stink and not supporting the administration isn't un-American, it's the most patriotic thing you can do. However, not paying your taxes isn't about not supporting the administration, it's about not supporting the schools, the soldiers, the hospitals and so on. Guilty!

I would tend to agree, Quboid, however not paying her taxes was in this case not about avoiding payment to schools and soldiers, it was about delivering a message and inciting a conversation.

Just because the consequences of her actions were illegal doesn't mean the actions were taken for purposes aligned with the reasons for their illegality (namely tax evasion for financial gain). She appears to have openly confessed to the crime (and is therefor admiting guilt), and one would expect the jury simply to decide how severly to punish her.

Analogy, I have a little money but the gas station is selling gas for way too much. I organize a protest, and nobody cares. I decide to steal a tank of gas and encourage others to in order to bring public awareness to the situation that may otherwise only effect some. I am caught and arrested for this crime,... does this mean I stole the gas in order to avoid paying the hard working company? Or was that just a parallel ramification of my actions?

Guilty, but with minimal sentence and minimal damages.

great film Quboid. Secretary is quite simple, if one is so inclined. he provides sanctuary to a self harmer and she returns her control to him. it's very romantic. he saves her. she legitamises the outsider.

Yeah, it was a good film. It's all about control, how control in the relationship switches between Spader and the extremely hot Maggie Gyllenhall. How he controls her and in turn, how she takes control by not breaking, he takes control by playing hard to get, she takes control by making him break - spectacularly - and so on. Very good and actually, quite romantic and sweet, despite all the mental and physical S&M.

Completely OT, but that's an odd interpretation of Secretary. I saw it primarily as a love story - the dom/sub thing was really nothing more than a literary device to tell a great love story - not unlike The Last Samurai.
