A cargo fire warning came on while they were en route from JFK to ANC, and Whitehorse was the closest airport. Murray Lundberg took this video of this takeoff of a fairly large aeroplane from a fairly small airport. The first 10 minutes show the prior plane taking off, and the 747 taxiing into position, including control tower radio chatter. There were quite a lot of spectators, and at one point earlier in the vid the pilot comes on the radio to tell the control tower "tell them to take lots of photos" :)
YouTube Description:
An Air North Hawker Siddeley 748 takes off, followed by a Boeing 747 - conversations between the pilot and tower can be heard. This was the first 747 in Whitehorse since two Korean Air 747s were forced to land here on 9/11, and as you'll hear at the end of this video, it blew concrete right off the runway.

siftbotsays...Moving this video to oritteropo's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.
chingalerasays...Whoa! Tarmac removal in Whitehorse, biggest news all summer there huh? In Pagosa Springs, Co. their airport has a 100' wide by 8000' long air strip and once I watched a C-130 Hercules on approach headed down. Teensy mountain resort town with mostly private small jets landing daily....quite a sight to see one of the largest planes ever coming-in low in the middle of nowhere!
