"Bill Murray just came face to face with an old nemesis on the golf course in Pebble Beach ... THE GOPHER.

It was pretty funny ... Bill took some time during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am to check out the varmint who popped up right near the hole -- just like in "Caddyshack."

Only this time, there were no explosives..."
