"I thought we were snowflakes."

YouTube: Writer and "Savage Lovecast" host Dan Savage joins Bill to discuss Trump's refusal to act presidential - and how Democrats should respond.

I see we've reached the point where the Dems have decided that they can go back to the playlist of ignoring the lower to average middle class vote. It might work for a single election or two, because Trump is an unmitigated disaster, but it is going to come back and bite them in the rear again.

Obama, even though he ended up being centrist and a clinton style democrat, preached change and got elected. Trump spoke of change and got elected. When are the politicians going to realize that we WANT change?

What they are doing now and before just isn't working. If we cut our military spending in half, we would still have the most advanced force in the world, would still be spending billions more than anyone else, and could probably offer either free college or a single payer healthcare system (maybe both, I haven't tried to figure out the numbers).

I agree completely. Unfortunately, I think that from the perspective of politicians, Obama and Trump set a clear precedent that while it is necessary to promise change, it is much less necessary to actually follow through.

That's not entirely new, of course, but I think they are getting significantly more brazen about it (Trump especially).

True, it seems it is pretty hard to get someone who talks change but still walks the walk once they get in office.

I'm amazed time and again that they just don't seem to get it. You keep putting forth corporate shill Democrats that practically everyone can see a mile away and you will not win. Sure there are other factors involved as well, but it is clear to me that everyone is no longer swayed by the smooth talking politician. We want change. We want to give government a swift kick in the ass. Unfortunately a lot of those hungry voters were willing to chance it with a child like buffoon. I like some things that Maher says, but he has no idea what the people want.

criticalthudsays...

to be fair, every president finds out change is a lot harder than they think it will be, given the stranglehold of a 2 party system.

here's a thought:
Rename the Green Party the "Conservative Party"
why?
#1 it's true, and it disarms the opposition while empowering a 3rd party, which is something that would be quite helpful to push change through.
#2 Politics is basically a war of semanitcs. Win the war on semantics, win the war.

Plenty o' folk will vote Conservative, just cause of the word.
Once there is a viable 3rd party, then change will be a reality.
