NTBIs a fun toy for the dark country roads.
skfortysays...thats bad ass.
Farhad2000FLIR = Forward Looking Infra-Red, it allows you to see heat signatures.
Interesting conversation this throws up, It's my belief that technology has made drivers less aware of their driving due the new technologies being put into cars. FLIR is a great idea, but isn't it better placing it somewhere other then the centre console? Maybe a HUD infront of the wheel or on a seperate layer infront of the drivers windshield.
NTBI agree that the center console is a bad place for the display and find myself not watching the road as much as i should when i have it on. Plus the placement of the camera is at bumper height which really reduces the range of the system.
Cannot wait to see where this technology will be in 10 years.
pho3n1xi long for a HUD in my car. i've often wondered how hard it could be to make one.
as for the nightvision, very cool. maybe just below the rearview? or maybe a motorized system in the driverside dash? there would obviously be no need for it during the daytime, and so it could retract. hmmm... -prepares a letter to bmw-
NTBWhat they really should of done is placed the camera at the rearview mirror height so the video looks more natural instead of looking like a video game. And the placement of the screen would be nice in front of the driver more like the Mercedes version.
Farhad2000I remember seeing a concept car with electronic HUD, there is a layer in front of the drivers view out of the windshield. The HUD showed speed, gears, and is amplified slightly to allow more visibility.
I think this would be the best.
NTBThe 5 series has a HUD as an option, but it does not have night vision on it just speed, gear, RPM, and such.
