Amazing Health Care in France - Scene from "Sicko"

Unlimited sick days? House-calls? Government nannies coming to your house to take care of your kids, do your laundry and make dinner? What a strange and wonderful world.

I recently watched this film and it's a very subjective and not objective view of the Health Care system and problems within, yes alot of the issues Moore raises do exist but his presentation only works against the point he is trying to bring across.

There is no discussion of the problems heath care systems face in Canada, UK and France face due to their very nature of being available to all. No mention of increasing demand as you increase the supply of health care and nothing to place it into the context of the baby boomer generation that is soon retiring.

Nationalized health care systems would need a step up in taxation which is a no go area in American politics for the last 7 years.

EDIT: On a side note, I really detested how much of the film was emotional hijacking.

I have never agreed with Moore because only one side is presented by people who want their agenda heard. He has always used emotional hijacking as Farhead pointed out. The system is screwy but we need to find a better answer. We seem to want big government but no "big brother", we want free benifits but no taxes. We have to stop speaking out of both sides of "our" mouths first and the politicans will follow.

The health care in Canada and France is free but it's almost 3rd world quality with year long waiting lists but you don't hear that side of the story.

Oh how lazy we have become to actually not just "want" this but where we "expect" this.

True, Micheal Moore is a sensationalist and he relies heavily on emotion to sway the audience into his point of view. I was also hoping that he might momentarily talk about the shortcomings of socialized healthcare. I'm always extremely suspicious when a docuementary exclusively presents one side of a story.

However

I don't think you can argue that the healthcare system in the U.S. isn't FUBAR. I am completely perplexed as to why our gov. thinks that allowing corporations decide who gets healthcare and who doesn't is a good idea. It almost makes me sick to hear about insurance companies having record profits when you also hear about the horror stories of the suddenly uninsured. True, if we socialize healthcare we'll pick up the tab in taxes, but we already pay an assload for our private system so whats the diff.

I'm not advocating a full-on French socialist system to come do my laundry, but I do feel that leaving our nations most unfortunate hang out to dry and allowing profit hungry corporations to decide who gets care is an excellent example of the fact that capitalism isn't a pure, golden system that always insures the best care for its consumers (its hard for someone to switch to a competing healthcare company after they are dead).

Moore doesn't bother to interview the families of the victims of Socialized health care, the ones who die while waiting for life saving surgeries. He failed to mention the two tier system in Cuba, the good system for the Cuban elite and foreigners and the crappy one for the Cuban citizens. It is just another liberal sensationalist pile of lying crap being passed of by the left as truth.

If you let the Federal Government get control of the health care system then it is 100% for sure that it will get much much worse. It isn't something the Government should be trying to fix.

Farhad2000says...

This is exactly why I hate Moore covering any topic anymore, anytime he attaches his name to something it becomes a leftist conspiracy to turn the whole country into a Socialist state. The issue becomes lost in the salvos of left vs right arguments.

No one here can deny the fact that health care as it stands in the US is in serious need of reform.

Corporations exist to make profits, thus it's in their best interest not to pay out medical care to make a high return on costs. Medical care is an important part of social policy, because simply having a healthier workforce is a boon to the economy in the long term. If you outsource all your health care to private firms, their aim isn't the provision of fair, affordable health care for all but the pursuit of the profits.

I don't understand why America believes that all it's ailments and problems can just be solved by outsourcing government tasks out to private contractors, everything from military defense contracts, to education and health care.

This in no way implies nationalized health care the likes of France and Cuba, but enough with burying our heads in the sand.

I agree I don't think that this should be a "left or right" issue. This is for all people. You should not agree with Moore just because you are "left" minded and should not disagree with him because you are "right" minded.

I think I'm personally gonna go back to the leeches Health Care system. It may not work medically but if I tell myself it works then I convince my body I feel better. Sometimes I wonder if health care relies on the placebo effect. (just kidding, many great people have done many great things with modren medicine)

Thanks farhad....such is Moore's legacy...undertone, diversion, and a bitter world view, pours from his every effort..and with each success, he prostitutes yet again, another easy mark, another muck-racking masturbation....he's a slut, unhealthy in soul and body. Hope the soon to be, casualty of causality, is reading this....best review he has ever had without paying good money for it....
