Constitutional_Patriotsays...I agree with Melissa.. the government should not participate in discrimination. I've seen affirmative action in action and deplore the use of it. I've seen less-qualified people being hired just to fill a quota.
GeeSussFreeKsays...You can't create equality by enforcing inequality. Way back when I was in college for my CS degree, they were giving full ride scholarships to women just for being a woman to pursue a CS degree. Where as for me, being a white male from a middle class family was subject to no gender or race based perks. You can only have equality of opportunity, not of experience without being massively unfair and unjust.
By that same token, my best friend whom is half black was qualified for a full ride scholarship to the US coast guard but turned it down as he was also qualified because of his grades. In other words, he worked hard and earned it based in merit what would of been just given to him for being (part) black regardless.
Affirmative action is state sponsored racism just like separate but equal facilities was. You can not accomplish gender and race based equality without (duh) gender and race based equality.
siftbotsays...Moving this video to NordlichReiter's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.

siftbotsays...Promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued - promote requested by Constitutional_Patriot.
rougysays...If you never give somebody a chance, they will never have a chance.
Pissants like QM love the law of the jungle because that law always means that the powerful win. They hate civilization and cooperatives because that gives the little people a fighting chance.
The power construct of the USA has been white male without question and remains so, for the most part, today. White males will almost always hire other white males unless prodded to do otherwise.
Take the NFL. For years it was "common knowledge" that a black man couldn't be a quarterback, or a coach. That was only "common knowledge" to the power structure at the time. We now know that so-called wisdom was entirely untrue.
EOE isn't perfect by a longshot, and yes there are users, but for fuck's sake try to take into account how many people aren't even given a chance to play just because of their race.
moonlightsays...Good points on both sides for a tough issue.

Quite the opposite, my friend. And there's no need for sniping insults.
I am for equality of opportunity. You should have a right to try out for the NBA just like the next person. But if you're not tall enough and can't dunk, take it up with Mother Nature.
Note the irony that YOU are placing the label "little" on a certain class or kind of of people. It would be in their best interest to ignore voices that claim, "You are little and downtrodden."

This is the one reason I like Obama. He's made the above marxist kollij rhetoric a creaking antique.
I believe a business is free to hire whomever they damn well please. If a pizza joint hires nothing but left-handed lesbians, as long as the pies arrive on time and are cooked well, they'd get my business.

This "message" has been beaten to death the last 50 years. It is no longer relevant and it's nice to see people waking up from yet another liberal-induced nightmare of federal mafia-enforced 'fairness'.
The most powerful people in a society are often the most competent EXCEPT in government.
Pprtsays...To any who may support affirmative action, answer me this: Should the National Football League or National Basketball Association apply affirmative action to its members?
Consider that the racial components are far outbalanced in the favour of Blacks.
Why should almost exclusively Blacks get such astronomic salaries when they represent fewer than 15% of the American population? Is it fair that their superior genetic predisposition to exceed in sports impede the chance of Whites to play in professional leagues?
Anyone would admit that this would be a ridiculous concept, as it is quite evident that teams are eager to pick up the best possible players to increase their performance. The same applies to society. If you belong at the top you will rise to the top no matter what.
To think that successful Americans such as Condoleezza Rice or Colin Powell have gotten their positions because of their ancestry is an insult to their intelligence and their competence. Their positions were attained due to their capacity and perseverance, nothing less and nothing more.
One must succeed by one's own merit. Being a token in some scheme to prove that race trumps aptitude is fraud in the highest degree.
GeeSussFreeKsays...Wow, looks like my betters are much more well spoken than me...well done
