rottenseedsays...Although its a sacrilege to claim that you like this version better, I do agree that this version gives the original masterpiece an interesting spin.
GreatBirdsays...*requeue
siftbotsays...Re-queueing this video for one more try; last queued Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 2:32pm PST - requeue requested by submitter GreatBird.
JAPRsays...Afraid I'm not a fan of a Perfect Circle, and it is indeed blasphemy to say that this version is even close to as good as Lennon's original.
qruelsays...blasphemy indeed. come back when you've learned some respect for your elders !
that said, i think this version is creepy (in a bad way) which is probably what they were going for
GreatBirdsays...Well, I've never been one to shy away from blasphemy, but I see your point. The original John Lennon was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. I was also much more innocent then, and I think that song fit me well. Today, however, I am a little more jaded and this version seems to fit our times more then the optimistic revolutionary spirit of the late 60s. It is supposed to be a depressing and creepy version of this song.
Issykittysays...It is definitely dark and a bit sad.
K0MMIEsays...John Lennon is not trumped by... this... this... abomination.
Thylansays...I never liked Imagine. I anticipate being tracked down and beaten now.
Which would be SO in tune with the song...
rottenseedsays...Thylan, your "against-the-grain" preferences are both tolerated and appreciated. (Just expect to put up with some shit for it)
8487says...It's funny that people are saying this is blasphemy, considering the anti-religious message of the original...
8999says...I think the "when the levee breaks" cover a.p.c. does on this album is far better. Then again I thought lennon was a pompous, self righteous, arrogant, pretentious, twat.
9917says...It is not an abomination. It's pretty damned good. Someone put some very careful thought into paying an homage to John's song. I loved the Beatles too, but, and I know this will make people mad, John was certainly not doing his best work solo. This a careful rendering of the song as it might have been done with the band and with collaboration. I don't think it's the song it would have been if the Beatles had done it, but nothing that they did after breaking up was as good as what they did in the group. Excepting maybe George Harrison- ever listened to "Dark Horse"? George did some really fine songs here and there.
