Anyways we should all be scared shitless about this. If the internet goes down w/o a fight it will be a tragedy of un-imaginably large scale. The little people, the small groups, the personal niches of the internet will be steamrolled by money grabbing cash cow companies such as... COMCAST and others. It's comparable to the Berlin wall being rebuilt. Lets fight shall we?

I don't see how it would be beneficial for companies to axe our current internet model. Sure, they might gain a source of money from web hosts paying them for rights to broadcast, but they would lose a huge customer base at the same time. The day youtube becomes a "premium" service from my ISP, is also the day I cancel my internet subscription.

Perhaps they work closely with the Swedish Pirate Bay? Maybe they are in the employ of a major ISP? Their scenario sounds unfortunately plausible, look at how ISPS are getting aligned with "portals" such as MSN or Yahoo!.
