Systema Self Defense

NordlichReiter says...

Systema - I like a good hybrid martial art.

I saw things from Aikido, Karate, Wing Tsun, and they even had multiple attackers.

But some of the things I saw, looked like bullshit. Especially those pressure points, or what ever the hell it was. The disarms where very good.

The punch they were showing was very good, there is nothing special about it only the target area they choose. The abscess right below the bottom of the sternum. That's not something you practice on friends, because it can cause damage to organs.

Every ones body is different, and some people may not react the same way as others do to pressure points or pain.

Take the chance to work with some one who has strange flexibility.

Lost Cop Shoots Puppy On Private Property In Oklahoma

legacy0100 says...

I'm as much of a dog lover as the next guy, but I happen to see it from Enzoblue's point of view.

Granted, we'll never know what the outcome would have been had the officer not shoot that dog. It might have been a wet doggy kiss, it might have been a bite.

It is clear that the officer took excessive steps for the sake of his safety. My guess is that this guy had one too many bad experiences with dogs in his patrol days and didn't want to take any chances.

But I would like to point out that branding this as a 'clear power abuse' is premature conclusion in my opinion. Officer did have a reason (may not have been the best decision, but did have a reason) for his action.

Also to point out, that assaulting a police officer is a serious crime. If your dog is unleashed and bites someone, it's still your fault, and you may do some jail time for that.

So the scenario goes:

1. Bestest of best scenario: Dog runs over to lick the officer, then finds 2 cheese doodles stuck behind the car seat. Officer notices his keen nose and recommends him to be a bomb sniffing dog, gets printed in local newspaper: happy ending.

2. Worst of worst scenario: Dog runs to bite officer in the neck: 40 stitches, larinx damaged, owner gets 5 years in jail.

So why are we turning a blind eye to the worst scenario, and only looking at it from the best of best scenario as if it is 100% certain when it isn't?

The fact still remains that we could never know what would have happened if the officer didn't shoot. And yet I see people jumping on this case as if there's no doubt, but there is. What would've happened next? Nobody will ever know.

But one thing is for certain: the officer panicked, and acted way too soon, in someone else's lawn. That's no excuse.

However, the comments made by this 'oh-so-delicate-damsel-in-distress-who-had-tragically-lost-her-pet-to-this-evil lawmen' is what got to me the most.

"He could've easily gotten in his car"??? "I think he was showing off"??? Give me a fucking break...

The guillotine is a well performed beheading. And, hypothetically anyway, I would rather take my chances with 'as long as a minute afterwords' than days for a hanging. One guy supposedly walked away after 3 days of hanging, so they changed the lay to read 'until dead' in case 3 days wasn't enough.

Planned Parenthood defends Obama

gwiz665 says...

On March 14th, 1973 John McCain was released from captivity. Eight minutes later a child was abused. Coincidence? Can you afford to take that chance? Can your children?

Paid for by Barack Obama for president. A candidate that does not abuse children every 8 minutes.

The british joke about the Black hole machine

12962 says...

Man's technology has exceeded his grasp. - 'The World is not Enough'
Zealous Nobel Prize hungry Physicists are racing each other and stopping at nothing to try to find the supposed 'Higgs Boson'(aka God) Particle, among others, and are risking nothing less than the annihilation of the Earth and all Life in endless experiments hoping to prove a theory when urgent tangible problems face the planet. The European Organization for Nuclear Research(CERN) new Large Hadron Collider(LHC) is the world's most powerful atom smasher that will soon be firing subatomic particles at each other at nearly the speed of light to create Miniature Big Bangs producing Micro Black Holes, Strangelets and other potentially cataclysmic phenomena.
Particle physicists have run out of ideas and are at a dead end forcing them to take reckless chances with more and more powerful and costly machines to create new and never-seen-before, unstable and unknown matter while Astrophysicists, on the other hand, are advancing science and knowledge on a daily basis making new discoveries in these same areas by observing the universe, not experimenting with it and with your life.
The LHC is a dangerous gamble as CERN physicist Alvaro De Rújula in the BBC LHC documentary, 'The Six Billion Dollar Experiment', incredibly admits quote, "Will we find the Higgs particle at the LHC? That, of course, is the question. And the answer is, science is what we do when we don't know what we're doing." And CERN spokesmodel Brian Cox follows with this stunning quote, "the LHC is certainly, by far, the biggest jump into the unknown."
The CERN-LHC website Mainpage itself states: "There are many theories as to what will result from these collisions,..." Again, this is because they truly don't know what's going to happen. They are experimenting with forces they don't understand to obtain results they can't comprehend. If you think like most people do that 'They must know what they're doing' you could not be more wrong. Some people think similarly about medical Dr.s but consider this by way of comparison and example from JAMA: "A recent Institute of Medicine report quoted rates estimating that medical errors kill between 44,000 and 98,000 people a year in US hospitals." The second part of the CERN quote reads "...but what's for sure is that a brave new world of physics will emerge from the new accelerator,..." A molecularly changed or Black Hole consumed Lifeless World? The end of the quote reads "...as knowledge in particle physics goes on to describe the workings of the Universe." These experiments to date have so far produced infinitely more questions than answers but there isn't a particle physicist alive who wouldn't gladly trade his life to glimpse the "God particle", and sacrifice the rest of us with him. Reason and common sense will tell you that the risks far outweigh any potential(as CERN physicists themselves say) benefits.
This quote from National Geographic exactly sums this "science" up: "That's the essence of experimental particle physics: You smash stuff together and see what other stuff comes out."

Obama downplays the CFR and North American Union

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I've got your critical perspective hanging right here, blanky:

I certainly agree that the military industrial complex, the Israel lobby, Big Oil, Big Pharma, etc holds way to much sway over this country, but Obama is the most progressive candidate I've seen in my lifetime. I'd love to see a Nader, Kucinich, Paul or Gravel-type take the reigns (actually, I do have some serious reservations about Ron Paul's 'Free Market Economy', which is useless when it comes to education, healthcare and other social issues), but that just isn't going to happen. If any of those folks got elected, they wouldn't be able to get anything done. A leader has to compromise to some degree if s/he hopes to accomplish anything.

This is the first presidential nominee I've ever seen who is willing to talk so frankly about class, race, healthcare, corporate influence, etc., and while I don't think he'll storm the Bastille or anything, he is a much needed breath of fresh air after the Bush/Clinton/Reagan years. Can't you see the opportunity we have here with Obama?

One thing that gives me hope about Obama is that he made a point to formally sever ties with the DLC, which is the official home of the corporate-imperialist-neocon Lieberman's of the Democratic party. This is certainly a show of independence.

That said, Obama is definitely jumping through some hoops here and tiptoeing around some very expensive tulips, and while I'd love him to tell the influence peddlers to fuck off, I understand that that's probably not an effective way to challenge these institutions and make any kind of meaningful change. I mean, openly insulting the school bully leaves you having to constantly watch your back. Better to track his movements and study his behavior for weakness to be exploited later.

Beyond strategy, your only other options are McCain - who makes no bones about his blood thirst - or writing in a candidate - which is basically a stealth vote for McDeath. So what's it gonna be? GWB part II, or take a chance on an extremely progressive and popular mainstream candidate who pays some lip service to the elites when backed against the wall. Seems like an easy choice to me.

If, in office, Obama strays from promises, we'll hold his feet to the fire, but in the meantime lets give the man a chance. Don't forget that a candidate who thrives on small-donor grassroot support will be expected to deliver, or those millions of individual donations will dry up.

Idealism fails without pragmatism.

Child's Invention Defies Gravity

legacy0100 says...

... kids would think it's real and try it for themselves, only to be disappointed and come to realization that everything they percieve in the world is a lie.

From that day forth the kid will never trust anyone else's opinion and will never experiment with new things, keeping things only that are familiar and safe.

Henceforth American children will become more conservative and take less chances. Leaving them technologically behind compared to the rest of the world. Eventually when the thrify Sri Lankans come to take over the world from their water drop of an island, America will be outgunned and out matched, henceforth the end of the republic.

And when that day comes, people will take of this day. The day they saw this commercial, which started it all.

Gwen Stefani - What you waiting for?

Heard any good jokes lately? (Possibly NSFW) (Comedy Talk Post)

videosiftbannedme says...

An elderly woman walked into the main office of Chase Manhattan Bank building, holding a large paper bag in her hand. She told the young man at the teller's window that she wished to deposit the $3 million in the bag and open an account at the bank. She said that first, though, she wished to meet the president of the bank due to the amount of money involved. The teller thought that to be a reasonable request, and, after opening the bag and seeing bundles of $1000 bills, which amounted to approximately $3,000,000, he telephoned the bank president's secretary for an appointment for the lady.

The woman was escorted upstairs and ushered into the president's office. Introductions were made, and she stated that she liked to get to know people she did business with on a more personal basis. The president then asked her how she came into such a large sum of cash. "Was it inherited?" he asked. "No," she replied. It was quiet for several seconds.

"I bet people," she offered. Seeing his confusion, she said, "For instance, I'll bet you $25,000 that by 10 o'clock tomorrow morning...your balls will be square."

The bank president figured she must be off her rocker and decided to take her up on the bet. He didn't know how he could lose. For the rest of the day, he was extremely cautious--he decided to stay home that evening and take no chances. $25,000 was at stake.

When he got up in the morning and took his shower, he checked to make certain that everything was O.K. There was no change. He looked the same as always. He went to his office and waited for the woman to come in at 10AM, humming as he went. He knew this was his lucky day. How often did he get handed $25,000 for doing nothing?

At 10 o'clock sharp, the woman was shown into his office. With her was a man. When the bank president asked her who the other man was, she informed the president that it was her lawyer and she always took him along when there was this much money involved.

"Well," she asked, "what about our bet?"
"I don't know how to tell you this," he said, "but I'm the same as I've always been."

"I'm afraid I'm going to need verification," her hand offered out.

"Well, okay," said the president, "$25,000 is a lot of money, so I guess you should be absolutely sure." The president complies, unzipping his pants and dropping his drawers. The old lady grabs his balls. Just then, he noticed that the lawyer was quietly banging his head against the wall.

The president asks the old lady, "What's wrong with him?"

"Nothing, except that I bet him $100,000 that by 10am today, I'd have the president of Chase Manhattan Bank by the balls."

Is It True What They Say About Obama?

Ryjkyj says...

This is indeed a very well put together piece of terrorist propoganda. Unfortunately for Barrack HOOSAYNE Obama, it doesn't fool me one bit!

aceofclubs' quote about "lesbian abortion fetuses" might sound funny but what if it's true? Are you really willing to take that chance? ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE THAT CHANCE!?!?!?

Rottenseed talks to his college sex teacher

critttter says...

Yes, I think there's entirely too much personality going on here. And I think we should lose the avatars and stick to numbers. I have never met this 'rottenseed' in my life, and he probably just cut me off on the highway. I don't want to take any chances engaging strangers on the internet, so stop it with the personal crap. God only knows how many criminals we could potentially be interacting with here anyway.

Why Do ALL Europeans Hate America?

Octopussy says...

I was about to write a serious comment, but come to think of it: why would I?

For any non-European, not having access to Google or Wikipedia, persons out there: the sources quoted are very much totally not important media/talking heads. Even in the UK, hardly anybody knows who Margaret Drabble is and Stern Magazine, well, they scooped the “Hitler Diairies” once. And the Daily Mail...??? Please, that’s the British version of TMZ. On top of that nobody takes the Germans seriously (mainly because they themselves think they’re very serious people) and everybody in Europe dislikes them anyway and anti-Americanism is a very cute habit the French get engaged in from time to time as an entertaining way to distract themselves from all the suburban riots and farmers’ strikes.

And, oh yeah, it is really so difficult to have access to a non-biased and/or American view in Europe (seriously, no other part of the world is so full of cable, satellite dishes and internets accesses as Europe)

PS: ShakaUVM, I wouldn’t take one chance encounter with 4 (alleged) French (they could’ve been Swiss or Belgian) people as indicative of French perceptions about the US. Maybe you showered that day. As we all know, the French are very hostile to anybody who cares about personal hygiene while travelling ;-).

PPS: I seriously hope I didn’t offend BillOreilly with this post ;-).

PPPS: I’m so glad that we finally managed to stop talking about the farting cat (sooorrrry!!!!)

WMDs? (Worldaffairs Talk Post)

gorgonheap says...

Regardless of wither there were any WMDs found in Iraq. Not only did Saddam lead his political neighbors to believe he had WMDs but it was commonly held belief among world intelligence agencies that there were factories set up for the production of them. And given his use of deadly chemical warfare in the Gulf War I don't think it would have surprised anyone if he would be willing to use them.

I've seen articles that claim both sides of the issue, there were WMDs, there were not WMDs. But the fact remains you have a terrorist who was more then willing to use deadly force against any who opposed his regime.

[edit]: Hell even the French thought there was reason to invade.

Imagine a scenario of a ruthless terrorist who has taken lives before, and claims to have rigged bombs throughout a building. He's also threating to use them if anyone tries to stop him. Do you take a chance that he's bluffing or do all in your power to save the lives of everyone in that building?

Regardless of how you feel now about the War in Iraq. The world felt a lot different about the suggestion before it happened. The UN supported it, and most of Europe did too.

A People's History of American Empire by Howard Zinn

Nice picture of the US squid there. A nice impartial view of history...

A pan to the right however, would put a giant bear into view, ripping people to shreds, and further right, a dragon delightfully eating it's young.

I'll take my chances with the squid, thank you very much.
