canadian man faces jail for disagreeing with a feminist

Asmo says...

@newtboy irt "I have to think there's something missing here....like what he actually posted that he's being charged with. Did he make threats? "

The video notes that the complainant in the case admits that the accused did not send her anything libelous, threatening or sexually related. That kinda covers all bases on harassment grounds, so if the only offense is "sending tweets", I would humbly suggest that she doesn't use twitter where.. people send you tweets... = \

@krelokk

I removed the last line of your post. You're entire rant/spiel/manifesto sans the dig about the accused perfectly describes the state of play with feminism as the bully. Irony is delicious... =)

@enoch irt your description

I think the difference between the racist and this guy the scale of consequences to the act they committed.

Losing a job because of a racist spiel openly given to a video camera = probably disproportionate, but it's the companies choice over who it hires, right? He has not been charged from what I could see (being a racist prick isn't a crime in the US right?), although I suspect his facebook page is gone because it got jumped on.

Losing a job, huge legal bills, facing jail time and a permanent record as a convict for having a difference of opinion = yeah, entirely disproportionate.

Activism is not inherently evil, much like a large gathering of people isn't inherently evil. It's when it get's abused.

One hopes the judge in this case sees sense and that the accused can sue the complainant for the damage she has caused to him.

Fighting evil does not make you evil. Fighting back against a bully does not make you a bully, it makes you a deliverer of consequences. Many bullies and bad people ADORE the 'hey you can't give me consequences or talk back to me, that makes you as bad as me' backwards talk bullshit... and that is all it is... a bullshit copout being said by shitty people and should be disregarded. People who support these people are just perpetuating terrible, repulsive behaviour within humanity. Normalizing it, supporting it, and ensuring humanity remains the garbage it is for that much longer. Telling victims they should lower their eyes/heads and take the harassment if fucking disgusting.

newtboy says...

Isn't there actually a 'game' where you choose the picture and 'beat it up'?

It's pretty funny that they get upset at an 'internet bully', so they become a gang of internet bullies to...well...I'm not sure...get theirs? Certainly not to stop internet bullying...they're using it as a main tactic.

Can't they be sued for publicly calling him a pedophile? Do they really accuse people of being pedophiles so often that they can't remember doing it?

I have to think there's something missing here....like what he actually posted that he's being charged with. Did he make threats? Unfortunately, time and time again this kind of opinion piece leaves out the most important pieces of information. I need to see the tweet that rose to the level of charging him before I form an opinion.

It sure seems like calling him a pedophile publicly meets the criminal standard, why isn't she up on charges?

thug kitchen cookbook-making racism tasty

Fuck me, this is a real thing!

Make sure you pause at 1:28 to read the fine print.... "It's scientific as hell. We made graphs...and all kinds of shit."

On further inspection, this appears to be a vegetarian cookbook in disguise. Well, if you have to have vegetarianism (or as I call it, the art of cooking side dishes), it may as well be ninja vegetarianism, and at least these guys a) have a sense of humour (something missing with most vegetarians) and b) are trying to get people to stop eating processed crap, so...

VideoSift 5.0 bugs go here. (Sift Talk Post)

The list of who downvoted the vid is missing. Is that on purpose?

And this isn't a bug.... except to bug you.... there is something missing from Sift5 that us obsessed Sifters used all the time -- in the last version, if you put your cursor over your own name, a drop down menu would pop, showing you the details of your unsifted vids and your most recent published vids.

I miss it something awful. I know @eric3579 does, too.

Any chance it will come back, when there is time to "fix" it?

I'd appreciate knowing if it is NEVER coming back, so I can start my mourning process and can stop looking for it.

The "Vus" explained: Deja vu, jamais vu, presque vu

swedishfriend says...

Do you see black or is it more like there is something missing? I get that sometimes. I might be reading and suddenly for some reason I cannot make out the words in the middle of my vision. But it isn't blurry or black or bright or anything. It is just missing. It feels truly weird and it is hard to explain because how can there be nothing in just part of my vision without there being a hole there or a dark spot or something! Like if you look at a painting that is missing a part you can see a shape around the hole, you can see something on the other side. Having part of what you see be just missing without any artifact, it just feels slippery in a way. Like my mind just cannot process that part right now and in its place there is nothing, not even a gap.
>> ^TheFreak:

Forget deja vu, that description of Blindsight might explain one of the strangest things I've ever experienced.
I suffer occular migraines periodically. Generally, when that happens I get a blind spot that grows until my entire vision is gone, then after several minutes it clears up. The process takes about 20-40 minutes from beginning to end.
Well...one day I'm playing Halo online with friends and between games I begin to get an occular migraine. So I let everyone know I might end up running into walls for the duration of the next game. By midpoint of the game I'm completely blind. When the game ends I'm chatting with my friends on my team about the experience of losing my sight like that when someone says, "well for a blind person you played awfully well". Huh? So I have them tell me my score and I was top scorer in the game. Which is when it occurs to me that, even though I was fully blinded for the majority of the game, I never stopped playing.
So at one level I'm perceiving myself as totally without sight, while at another level I'm still moving and reacting, with great precision, to visual input.
Go figure.

Meh, I may be the only one, but I really don't like these two.
I've tried watching their videos before, but never liked them enough to watch them through.
Today I decided to just watch on the off chance that maybe they get better as it goes on, but I thought this just stupid.

I'm in your boat I don't know what it is but theres something missing from there humour

QI - Why Your Grandparents Are Retarded

MilkmanDan says...

I've taken 2 IQ tests (administered by a professional, not the web-based ones etc.) in my lifetime. Both were when I was going to public school in the USA.

The first was when I was about 6-7 years old. I don't remember the event at all. My parents thought that I should be in the "gifted" program at the school, and the entry requirement was that you score at or above 120 on an IQ test. So, I took the test and got a result somewhere around 110-115, which wasn't enough to get me into the program.

I was always pretty nerdy and academic, and getting good grades was quite easy for me in any subject that I was interested in. Also, on nation-wide standardized tests like the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, I would consistently score in the 99th percentile. My parents thought that something must have gone wrong with my original IQ test, and wanted the school to re-test me. The school consistently gave the response that IQ tests are accurate and a person's IQ does not change over time, so a retest wouldn't accomplish anything.

When I was about 12-13, the school finally gave in and decided to let me retest. However, the entry requirements from the test had gone up in the meantime, and I would have to score above 130 IQ to get into the program.

I remember elements of the test from that time around. It seemed pretty bizarre.

I remember a "puzzle" that was made out of 4 cube blocks. All of the surfaces were blank white, except for the top sides which had a picture of an apple divided into the 4 pieces. Basically, an extremely easy jigsaw puzzle; no interlocking nubs, just 4 squares of equal size containing 1/4 of the picture. These cubes were placed on a table with the picture side facing up. The pieces were separated by about 3-4 inches, but not rotated or skewed at all. So, upon looking at them I could clearly see that by simply moving them together the "puzzle" would be complete and the apple would show. My tester told me to put together the puzzle and remember that time was a factor in the scoring, so I reached over and slid the 4 pieces together to show the apple. Probably all in under a second.

In another section, the tester would say vocabulary word that weren't particularly difficult or obscure, and ask me to describe or define them in my own words. Some of my friends recalled having difficulty with that, but it seemed easy for me.

One part I remember as being difficult for me was a series of pictures with something missing or incorrect. As examples I remember a cartoon fish that had relatively good detail but no gills, and a pair of shoes that were identical except one had eyelets around the holes for the laces and one did not. I remember that it was somewhat tough for me to figure out what they were going for in several of the pictures.

Anyway, this time around, I easily broke the entry barrier of 130 IQ and was allowed into the gifted program. I think that I actually scored above 140, but they wouldn't tell us our exact result at the time, and I have forgotten what it was revealed to be when I got the paperwork after I graduated. The school was quite surprised that my result was different than the first time I took the test, particularly by such a large margin. They said that I must have been sick, very nervous, or tanked the test on purpose when I was younger, although I don't remember any of those elements being a factor.

I relate this story not to brag (I don't really feel any "pride" in my IQ results, but being in the gifted program at school was nice for doors it opened), but to provide some background for my personal thoughts that IQ tests are not anywhere near as consistent or relevant as many would have us believe.

The quietest drag race in history

rottenseed says...

there's...something...missing...

I think the noise is a very important factor in the enjoyment of drag racing. I'm not missing the point here, I'm just saying I hope when we progress to a world where we all drive electric cars we keep some ol' school gas guzzlers around for our entertainment.
