Metallica- The Day That Never Comes (music video)

Pushkill says...

I don't think the new album is perfect or anything, but I think its a decent album. It actually makes sense in terms of a musical direction, which I think load -> st anger didn't make much sense because it didn't sound like Metallica. This new album has a definite pre-enter sandman Metallica vibe to it, with enough of it sounding fresh but not reinventing. There are at least 3 songs that I feel really comfortable saying that they are good Metallica songs. A couple songs are just lame, and the rest are listenable. I'd recommend it. I don't think this song is bad, its just kind of pointless, and the video definitely could be better, as it looks like it was shot over a weekend out in Mojave, but hey, its Metallica \m/

"Emily" - Image Metrics Tech Demo

^ What the heck are you talking about? The whole point is to surprise people that the person they've just seen explaining the technology is actually CGI. Did you think that the CGI demonstration was just the face turning red and black? That would be stupid and pointless.

The demonstration was showing that THE FACE was CG for the whole video.

Geebus.

They are showing that their motion tracking system is really great at FACES.

The rest is REAL.

You want proof? how about this?:

Using (USC's) Institute for Creative Technologies' special scanning system that can capture facial details down to the individual pore, the face of actress Emily O'Brien was transformed into a digital representation of herself, which could then be entirely machine-manipulated. A special spherical lighting rig captured O'Brien in 35 reference facial poses using a pair of high resolution digital cameras. The facial maps were then converted into 3D data using Image Metrics' proprietary markerless motion capture technology.

Gah... stop adding to the insane trend of people just making shit up on the internet and presenting it as fact.

"She was giving birth to a ferret during the filming of this video, yeah, true."

Very misleading / ambiguous video. What parts of that scene were CG? None except for the few overlays, right? Big deal, at that resolution and without realistic rendering we can't tell how good it is.

I'm pretty sure the whole thing up until they show "the real Emily" is CG.

And what possible reason do you have to say that? I mean, WHY do people insist on saying something that they cannot back up with ANY reason?

The part where they show the face in cg overlay... THAT'S it for what they've done to the video, overlaid a CG face onto her face after using the very video they're sampling from to get the movement. Why would they show that being the only cg part if they did everything? They'd be shouting from the rooftops if it were everything, they'd deconstruct everything in the room if it were really ALL CG.

Plus, the rest of her body etc. LOOKS more real than the face... especially the mouth.

It's still darn impressive.

But again, it shows how much more you can get away with if you surround your cg in reality.

It's quite impressive, but having all the rest being real helps it enormously

RussiaToday Reports On Georgian Troop Presence

EDD says...

No, of course I do not share that opinion. First of all, Georgia took a too hot-headed approach to this whole mess to begin with, they probably also should have informed their Western allies before they began the retaliatory strike of August 8th in South Osettia. As for civilian casualties - well, the Osetts did dig themselves in positions among civilians in their capital city, so I'd put the blame on them for any civilian casualties from Georgian shelling. But that's war anyway, you're gonna have collateral damage one way or the other.

And if you're saying that some 99% of info coming from Russian media isn't Kremlin bullet points (we call THAT propaganda), then... well, there's unfortunately no point talking with you then.

"Outstanding. This guy needs to be on Jon Stewart and/or Colbert if he hasn't already."
He was on The Daily Show and it wasn't anything special.

By 'not anything special' generally means that he defended the Iraq war rather than attacking religion. Thus disappointing a large portion of the crowd. For those interested, his Daily Show appearances include him talking about nearly getting spanked by Margaret Thatcher, playing devils advocate for Mother Theresa and having the grand son of Ayatollah Kohmanei over for supper at his house. Oh, and the time he spent in Iraq and North Korea too. Nothing special? One of the far and away most interesting guests the Daily Show has had, which is saying a lot.

"Well, you lack commitment" (19sec long)

Interesting how pretty much identical comments get extremely different reactions - see above:

"I would plow Erica Hill." by SaNdMaN gets 9, while
"I would wreck that chick" by Aniatario gets -7.

Did the bronze star make all that difference? Really? Why?

Seen an interview with a EOD trooper in iraq (from the UK army) saying that they constantly find UXO RPG shells, 105mm mortars / arty shells, all with trademark iranian signatures from iranian weapons manufacturers.

There are also plenty of AK-47s. Doesn't mean that Russia is supplying the Iraqi insurgency.

Thats my point.
There are iranian arms inside iraq, the army shouldnt just blatantly use that as proof-positive that the iranian state are supporting terrorists.
