I just kind of play guitar and sing, got a band together this year. No videos since I don't have a camera, and the only recording equipment I have is a pirated copy of audition and a cheap 15 buck microphone, so I don't really have any recordings worth mentioning, lol. I just enjoy playing and writing music, mainly. I could send you a song or two if you want, I guess.

Thanks man. You mentioned that you're an amateur musician yourself - what sort of stuff do you do? Do you have any recordings or videos?

In reply to this comment by JAPR:
Haha, awesome, thanks. I figured it might be a little bit of reverb (just a touch of that can make a huge difference in vocal sound ) and overdubbing. Nice harmonies in there by the way, I enjoyed that video.

Hey JAPR,

Thanks for the comment! My recording/videoing method is usually along these lines:

1) Record a live take with guitar and lead vocals. In this video, all the verses and the first chorus are just that.
2) Overdub vocal harmonies for certain parts. Occasionally, also double some vocals if I want to beef it up a bit.

In this one, for the last two choruses, I doubled the lead vocal, and added two vocal harmony parts (both doubled also). No vocal processing is used, except for a touch of reverb.

Hope that answers your question!

Oh, awesome. I'm a bit of an amateur musician myself, so it'd be interesting to hear what program he uses and how he utilizes it.

you'll get to ask him, yourself, when he gets here. he's one of the people i recently endorsed the sift to.

presumably, he'll have the same login here, as at youtube.

In reply to this comment by JAPR:
wow, great voice. i wonder how much he played with that on his music editing program and how much of it is just his voice.

The Beatles - All You Need is Love

bobraingod says...

The broadcast was basically live with a little help. According to Mark Lewisohn's The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions, "...George Martin greatly decreased the chance of an on-air foul-up by having the Beatles play to their own pre-recorded rhythm track of take 10. Only the vocals, bass guitar, the lead guitar solo in the middle eight, drums and the orchestra were actually live." Hence the headphones.

Equally impressive was how fast they got the song done. The Beatles had agreed to perform a new song for an BBC international broadcast on May 22 and the actual performance took place about a month later on June 25; the Beatles didn't start working the song up as a group in the studio until June 14. The program was to be the first live broadcast across five continents and, to keep it accessible to all audiences, the BBC had requested that the Beatles keep the song simple. The international "snippets" were added for the occasion.

Lennon was apparently very nervous beforehand; the gum chewing was probably just a front to hide his anxiety. There was a whole slew of friends sitting around also: "Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, Keith Richard, Keith Moon, Eric Clapton, Pattie Harrison, Jane Asher, Mike McCartney, Graham Nash and his wife, Gary Leeds and Hunter Davies" (Again, from Lewisohn). After the broadcast was over, the Beatles did a little bit of overdubbing (including some of Lennon's vocals) and the final mix was finished the next day. The single was out in stores on July 7, less than two weeks later.

Uncensored version of the only banned Tom and Jerry episode

swampgirl says...

This one may be the only banned one, but they've censored many of the ones we see today. There is a reoccurring character of a black lady who owns Tom in some episodes. Her voice at once was a stereotypically a "mammy" sounding one back then that now has been replaced with a more modern accentless woman's voice. (or a more acceptable black woman's accent)
I hate that, because the old voice was funny just as "mammy" was funny. It's not racist.

Hattie McDaniel was the first black woman to win an Oscar from her performance of Mammy in Gone With The Wind. Imagine how her character would be now if someone overdubbed her voice w/ Oprah. Looses the charm does it not?

I'd love to have the narrator of funniest videos overdub his own shows with very depressing or inappropriate blurbs...

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

Is this Takeshi's Castle? I've seen it on tele here a few times, I can't stomach it for long but I have to appreciate the awfulness. Again, the overdubbing and commentary (by Red Dwarf's Dave Lister!) is what makes it.
