Carl Sagan: A Universe Not Made For Us

^ Which pillock downvoted that? Hope she/he downvotes this too, fuck you lack-of-sense-of-humour-bot.

I would also like to know who overdubbed this with the LOST music. Good choice. At least i didn't feel let down by the end of this video!

You wouldn't expect a dog fight to be this funny

petpeeved says...

Such a thoughtful post. Thank you for your contribution.

Does it really take a lot of imagination to realize that you have to teach dogs to kill each other in this fashion? I'm sure eventually those men managed to overcome the dog's natural instincts and they got the bloodsport they wanted. Still not sure what is funny about what amounts to the first phase in training a dog for fights.

I can see how you might mistake mounting for 'love' since the video was so cleverly overdubbed with a love song but if you don't anthropomorphize it, it actually makes it even sadder when the humans take the last avenue of peacemaking left to the two animals, leaving them trapped with no alternatives to fighting.

4-way Auto-Mario: Queen (Don't Stop Me Now)

Additionally - the point with the birthday song example is; you wouldn't have to overdub the game to identify the song. Take out the queen song and you would have absolutely no hope of knowing what song this is.

It would be about 2 minutes of whirly noises interspersed with barely identifiable upward scale progressions which happen to occur every so often in "Don't Stop Me Now".

Feels like i'm over analysing, but shit - you started it by attacking my opinion with an answerable question!

4-way Auto-Mario: Queen (Don't Stop Me Now)

So they made mario brothers occasionally make plinking sounds that sometimes synch up with some of the notes of parts of a song?
Is it more impressive to aim for the sun and fall far short, or aim for the moon and hit it spectacularly? In other words - do a simpler song, better.

Good luck finding a song that's worth listening to that only has the exact same pitches as the sound effects from mario world...
The fact that the song is complex is what makes it impressive. Do you honestly think this would be more impressive if it were "4-way auto Mario: the happy birthday song?"

If it sounded like the happy birthday song, followed all the notes, sounded good, added flourishes (this is the bit where you hit the moon 'spectacularly'), yes. Far, far, far more impressive than doing 4 notes of "Don't Stop Me Now" every 20 seconds or so.

To you, what makes this impressive is the complexity of the song? Very well, i could overdub this with "Through the Fire and the Flames" and it'd probably coincide with some of the notes too, is that impressive to you? It's a very complex song that's for sure, and i'd hit "some" of the notes. Surely the accuracy of hitting objects in a game that sounded very similar to a song is what makes these types of videos impressive, no?

And therein lies my criticism.

Oh yes, Danish dubbing is as terrible as the rest of them. I think the whole dubbing concept is bad. Show the stuff in its original language, that's what the authors intended and that way you don't lose any jokes, subtleties or hidden messages. Most jokes won't translate well, so the dubbers have to make their own - and they are not comedians.

Even Danish?

Ooooooh, now I get it. Well, that was ages ago! At least some days.

I think overdubbing makes good things bad and German tends to overdub everything... shame on them. I will continue to downvote everything overdubbed into anything (except maybe English).

To my knowledge, Infinity Ward had nothing to do with this video. The animations are all from the training level, with some overdubbing.

A girl sings the "Diva Dance" from the Fifth Element

spoco2 says...

Actually... from all I can find online, the version in the film IS NOT manipulated. I thought it was, but apparently the special edition dvd has a portion that states that all that has been done to it is some overdub of flute at one point, other than that, it's all real singing.

Colour me impressed as I was sure it was manipulated.

Girls with violins rock out Toxicity - System of a Down

Xaielao says...

They were clearly playing the song. But it didn't 'sound' live so the video was likely masked by a pre-recording.

Still, they rocked. The drummer was indeed spot on and fantastic. Still thats easy to overdub and remix mistakes. It's why I always prefer live because you gotta actually have talent. It's why 90% of 'artists' today sounds like absolute fucking garbage live. Because the 'artists' have little real talent and what they have is mixed and dubbed and messed with the sound perfect.

Shit they don't even call them MUSICIANS anymore. Damn hippies grew up and screwed over the music industry. Its why I listen to mostly indie stuff these days.

Did I say these chicks rock already?
