Top 10: Games that Need to be Made (or need a sequel)

spoco2 says...

You know, I really don't care much for ScrewAttack's taste in games. It more than likely stems from me having an upbringing on arcade machines, the ZX Spectrum and PCs, not Atari, NES etc.

But Killer Instinct? Are you kidding me? That was the worst ripoff of Mortal Kombat... it was horrible then, and it's horrible now (I've got it on MAME)... urgh.

I upvote because I do like to see what the other half want in their games... but I can't agree with many of them. (Earthworm Jim excepted... oh yeah)

Hey, sweet link! Now all I need to do is build a MAME box and I'm good to go. One day... [thumbs]

You should visit this site:

The torrents don't work so great, try mirrors 2 or 3 for any of the downloads. I sometimes play this through my HT receiver in Dolby Pro Logic mode, which does a nice job of surrounding me in arcade ambiance.

Ah, that noise....you know, all the attract modes playing at once. I miss that ambient noise.

Exactly what the host says at the end: MAME is great and we're lucky to have such things, but it's just not the same. When I saw the Tempest high scores screen, I got a dizzying warm fuzzy. Everything about the old arcades, the darkness, the neon, the black screens with bright flashing colors... I hope the retro arcade catches on and spreads.

While we're on the topic, maybe someone knows: I was told years ago that there is supposedly some 5-floor mega arcade, possibly in NY state. Supposedly it has everything from the 80's hits to the most recent VR simulators. Flat fee paid at the door lets you play all day. So far I haven't succeeded in finding any info. Does that ring a bell for anyone?

I loved the vector games. Never had a Vectrex, but played one at Sears.

The coloured Vector games were called Quadrascan I think. I enjoyed Captain Havoc, TacScan and some Asteroids clone that was in color, and the asteroids were replaced with wheels that looked like spirographs. Anyone remember the name of that one? I'd like to Mame it.

Thanks for the info. I have a recent full MAME set, so I fired it up and there it was. I also have an X-Arcade controller and it plays pretty nice, but the sound isn't working too hot. Looks good, though. Hope the sound gets fixed in a future set.

You could always play Radiant Silvergun. It's by the same guys that did Ikaruga, though it's MUCH harder. (Ikaruga is the spiritual sequel to RSG.)

I believe Ant found a Mame version of RSG somewhere . . .
(I'd recommend the Saturn version though.)
