Hello gentlemen: the lady you wish your lady was

Funny how this is pretty much the exact same video as the one with the Old Spice guy -- and yet you didn't hear anyone crying that he was being objectified. Why is it okay for a guy to do this, but crass exploitation when a woman does it?

I disagree. The old spice commercials were tongue-in-cheek and meant to parody stereotypes, whereas this is just wank material pandereing to beer swilling sport jocks.

Yet it also reached #1 so I guess it panders to lonely internet nerds also.

Daniel Tosh hilarious stand up skit about middle America

baashar says...

Well, Daniel adds his humor to the videos, which is what makes it worth watching.

For some of us anyway, for the rest of us theres other shows to watch. Ive already seen a lot of the numbers he shows, but Im an internet nerd.

You use Firefox right? You'll definitely want this.

Deano says...

It could be big if you think about the whole metadata thing and where that might lead.

Having something that works visually and allows grouping/notes takes it to another level. It's a more engaging way of working and a helluva lot more useful than clicking on bookmarks.

Currently I mark sites with Delicious and I know I might need to reference them if I'm working on a project or have an idea. It's useful and reassuring. But it's not really great to work with and I can't do anything of the things posited here. I wonder if adding Mind Maps and visual links to files on my system could work - you could capture all your online and offline stuff in one place.

So after a while, with all the coming extensions, Firefox is, perhaps, becoming an OS. if you add search and working with contacts you've got something that could be very, very powerful. Isn't that what Chrome and the Chrome OS is aiming for?

The other consideration is how to back this up and do it securely. I know about Firefox Synch but haven't tried it yet.

Cool tool. Not sure if creating "groups" of tabs is necessarily groundbreaking, but certainly useful.

Wow, did I just sound like an indignant internet nerd or what? Sigh. I've got to get off the internet.

Ignore Stephen Baldwin, Restore Joss Whedon

mentality says...

>> ^videosiftbannedme:

I never understood the fascination with Joss Whedon. Yes, I watched Firefly and yes, it was ok, but the way the internet nerds carry on, it's like he's the second coming of Christ or something. Dr. Horrible has been his best work so far.

Personally, I hate the epic space opera and drama that is a part of most Scifi tv shows.

For Firefly, I think the opening song summarizes wonderfully: it's about the freedom of having your own ship, and being your own man. That is a dream I've had since I was a little kid, and the show speaks to me on such a deep emotional level that I don't think I'll love any other show as much as Firefly.

Ban Textbook for Dismissing Creationism as Biblical Myth?

highdileeho says...

Creationism is an unfounded theory. I think the book should be banned for two reasons. It mentions a topic (creationism), that should be marginalized and never discussed in school within any context. Every time that sentence is read, i'm sure the entire day in class is wasted with political rehtoric and back and forth about the creationist/evolutionist theories. Instead they should be spending their time discussing things that are important, like science for example.

secondly at the end of the day, none of those students will have a different opinion, and almost all don't give a shit in the first place. You could set them all on fire and douce the ashes with baby tears and it wouldn't matter one fucking bit. This story isn't at all about kids, it's about internet nerds and dumb parents who can't get enough bashing and controlling. So fucking what, what are you going to do about it, type angerly? That's the only outcome I see in this discussion.

Deathcow is our new alien overlord (and he has a ruby)! (Spacy Talk Post)

EDD says...

deathcow: without a shadow of doubt you are one of the reasons I stopped being a lurker and became a member in the first place - you're truly one of the most hilarious motherfuckers I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and your side-splitting one liner comments have long since officially become a defining *quality of the Sift (an yeah that's an awesome and an appropriate picture, rasch).

And that's not even going into how awesome your astronomy hobby is. You're a real role model, my Alaskan friend, and I envy dag for having had the pleasure of spending years in your company in meat-space. I tip my imaginary internet nerd hat to you, Mister Deathcow, for you are TEH AWSUM.

There are real women on the Internet?

You and DFT sort of remind me of me and my girlfriend...a white guy and an asian girl who are both internet nerds and like cute animals and great music, lol.

Hope things have been going well for you two, I haven't really been participating on the sift too much lately, though I've been watching videos (mostly the ones in eia, rocknroll, and videogames). School's got me really busy lately, and I just haven't seemed to run across a lot of stuff to post.

In reply to this comment by Issykitty:
Awww... thanks JAPR! I can't believe youdiejoe captured that moment! He's a damn good videographer, that Randy.

In reply to this comment by JAPR:
Holy crap DFT and IssyKitty make one good-looking couple.

Is it Choggie, like doggie, or Choggie, as in Margaret Cho-ggie? The world may never know.

"We're internet nerds."

Yeah, but I'm sure the patrons of the bar assumed you were just having an Apple board meeting, with Steve Jobs sitting at the head of the table. (That is volumptuous, right?)

3.... 2.... 1.... Launch (that car)

blankfist says...

>> ^iaui:
Awesome!
I love how the car obviously went waaay further than anyone was expecting. Check out the cows in the background in the shot where the second car lands... A little closer than anticipated...

It's farther, not further. Farther denotes distance, where further denotes a change in time or amount. [/know-it-all internet nerd]
