The Girl Effect
> Westy
I partially agree with you westy, but I think that the very thing you criticize this video for is its main strength. I may be coming at it from my own "designerly" biased background but I think that tackling this issue in this simple and straight to the point method is far more effective than any other over the top infomercial or christian children's fund ad could do.
I think the point that this video may be trying to make is not that simply helping women cures all the ills in the world but that if you can focus you efforts in some instances rather then trying to tackle every problem at once you can really begin to make a difference. By helping one woman you can potentially help an entire family, If one family is living well then there's the potential for helping even more. By no means do I see this as the saving grace to the worlds problems, but I do find it to be an incredibly worthy idea and cause that's worth fighting for.
Obama: Small Buisnesses and Health Care; McCain Stunned
I LOL'd at that point in the debate. It was like a bad television infomercial.
"But it's really expensive, right?!"
"No! It's only $9.95!"
"$9.95?!?"
the rich do not allow things to trickle down, that's why they're rich.
QFT.
Over the last eight years, "trickle down economics" was supposed to help out the average American worker, but instead CEO salaries skyrocketed. The rich have been leveraging their economic advantage to acquire an even greater percentage of the wealth of this country. This has occurred at the expense of the poor, the working class, and the middle class.
Evolution vs. Creationism: Listen to the Scientists
Big upvote for the content, but MY GOD what a cheesy video... that infomercial music, the long swathes of text at the start and end.
Skip a couple of minutes in, watch the people talk and then skip the text at the end, you'll enjoy it a lot more.
But again, it's stating what so many of us know but unfortunately so many in power refuse to acknowledge: THERE IS NO DEBATE, EVOLUTION IS REAL.
How an Engineer Folds a T-Shirt
I thought I saw a product like that on an infomercial...
TV has no idea about games 2: CSI:NY, Second Life battle
This episode was just a horrible hour long infomercial for Second Life. Ugh.

I remember this on late night tv infomercials and not it being hidden away in my closet. *cough*
Chuck Norris plays the role of a Marble Mouthed Buffoon
>> ^quantumushroom:
Norris = self-made man, millionaire, author, black belt, movie star, author and Total Gym infomercial master. Tears cure cancer.
Huffington = "earned" wealth by spreading her knees for Michael Huffington, and married him knowing he was bisexual.
Which is another way of avoiding altogether the point of their conversation, and the merits of their arguments.

Arianna Huffington Vs. Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris is pissed off that he has no cash and is forced to do exercise equipment infomercials. He is jealous of an intelligent, successful, and well paid woman.
Norris. Use. Fist. Must. Punch!
McCain's Convention: Hookers & Blow
Its kind of an asinine story. I mean, don't get me wrong, McCain and Palin are going to finish off the country over the next 8 years because a majority of the people in the country seem not to have had enough of Republican rule.... however... is this news story somehow insinuating that the Democrats wouldn't have partied it up if the conventions were swapped?
I mean, let's take it a step further... I'm pretty sure that the democrats spent millions upon millions of dollars for last weeks convention which amounted to nothing more than a party (there was not boost to Obama's polls as a result), meanwhile countless Americans are losing their homes to foreclosures, lack health-care, and are otherwise in dire-straights. Why not just use the insane amount of money spent to something actually constructive rather than what amounted to a three day infomercial?
To summarize, all politicians are guilty of spending the taxpayers money on unnecessary stuff. Democrats and Republicans alike. Let's not even get into the fact that politicians can vote themselves raises (and seem to all the time). If this country really does want reform, we have to tear down the two party system period.
Remember when tvs would turn themselves off?
Ah the good ole test pattern. They still do that, but now instead of test patterns, they use infomercials.
Real Time w/ Bill Maher Reporter Matt Taibbi Reports on DNC
I'm a bit confused about the free speech zone thing, because there were definitely protesters that made it on TV, notably in this top 15 vid.
Personally I think protesting a particular party's convention and expecting them to listen is a bit silly -- it's not a forum for discussion, it's a marketing infomercial.
Wouldn't stop me from protesting the RNC convention, but my target audience would be TV and YouTube, not the delegates.
The bit about a corporate feeding frenzy isn't a surprise, though you're deluding yourself if you think it wouldn't happen to the Libertarian, Green, or Constitution parties if they wielded 40%+ of the political power in the country. Their conventions would be the same, free speech zones and corporate orgies included.
I'd be more interested in knowing how other countries deal with the problem of corporate money leading to political influence, because here in America, everything's for sale, and anyone who says otherwise is a
communistsocialistmarxistun-American American.I know your answer blankfist...just get rid of government's influence over corprorations, and the corporations won't see a need to twist government's arms.
I think as long as money = speech, we're fucked. Hell, I think as long as we as a society see amoral selfishness as a virtue, we're fucked.
Dennis Kucinich at DNC: Wake Up America
Sounds like some great stuff... regardless, these rallies and the careful editing of enthusiastic facial expressions creeps me out. Too much like infomercials.
The Ultimate Infomercial
I actually thought it was a real infomercial but that they would demonstrate the product *uh-hem* down there. The surprise to me was how far they exceeded my expectations.
It does seem most people did not expect it. I think they suffer from having a clean mind.
