The Ultimate Infomercial

Portal 2 is Coming! OHHH YES!!! Heres the Proof!

AnimalsForCrackers says...

I love the Japanese game show, Cops, and infomercial ch... errr the G4 channel, yeah. Impossible for me to watch it for more than a few minutes without grunting and groaning while feeling super icky and somewhat self-degraded; oh how embarrassed and shamed am I to be a gamer when one of those pretentious, forced, one-dimensional, stereotype-reinforcing G4 commercials play. It's the equivalent of MTV, but for gamers. An inconsequential chunk of the day for game related things(even then the quality has only been going down since the ZDTV/Tech TV days) sandwiched in between hour upon hour of baffling, completely unrelated shit. I'll still be tuning in to watch their E3 coverage, for the games, of course. Technically, I'll be watching mostly commercials and marketing. Fuck me!

What if Scientology actually made a TRUTHFUL infomercial?

Stark Industries Presents the BLU-108

ashes2flames says...

With each SFW deployed you have 5 BLU-108's providing discreet lethality over a very large range.
Two "bombs" are capable of destroying an entire division without leaving any unexploded ordinance. Redundant self destruct mechanisms eliminate "de-facto" land mines.

The infomercial nature of this video struck me as quite creepy.

Automated License Plate Recognition System (ALPR)

joedirt says...

LOL.. this infomercial is totally scripted.

Check out the Canadian version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6IkMulFjEY

In the Long Beach version they admit to datamining every car ever encountered by big brother: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXjZcFesCdE

Also, if you think this is just local cars, or this data is NOT uploaded to national databases then you are a moron.

Knowledge Computing Corporation and ELSAG North America Law Enforcement Systems today announced a strategic partnership to support information sharing and intelligence-led policing initiatives among law enforcement.

"COPLINK's information sharing, tactical analysis, lead generation, visualization and decision support solutions are proven performers when it comes to solving or thwarting crime and terrorism," stated Mark Windover, President and CEO of ELSAG North America. "Because over 70% of all crimes involve the use of vehicles, the license plate data available through ELSAG's system will become even more valuable in helping law enforcement prevent criminals or terrorists from falling through the cracks."

"ELSAG has demonstrated consistent leadership in providing one of the most advanced and accurate license plate recognition solutions in the industry," said Robert Griffin, CEO of Knowledge Computing Corp. "With a combined reach in over 1700 jurisdictions nationwide, spanning across 33 states, including all five of the nation's largest cities, this partnership will enable both companies to expand and better serve our client base."

Once both companies have completed their pilot deployment together, ELSAG North America will become an official member of Knowledge Computing Corp.'s COPLINK Interoperability Certified Partner Program.

ELSAG North America Law Enforcement Systems is a Finmeccanica company, a global leader in defense and security solutions

Internet Video 2007 - All The Popular Bits From 2007 In One.

I got the feeling that the guy that is supposed to be a "Brit" is just someone doing an impression of the standard annoying British co-host that we see in so many infomercials.

"Now how much would you pay?"

How to Sharpen a Knife

The start reminds me of those infomercials where someone tries to perform some easy task but fails miserably because they don't have the aid of <insert product here>. Seriously you can cut a tomato using a butter knife with more success than that guy had.
Other than that, nice and informative.

At lest that part wasn't black and white with the chef sweating and looking all frustrated.

Scientology and the problem of religious tolerance. (History Talk Post)

joedirt says...

"In many ways, the movement against scientology is the same type of beast as a religious cult, with the vegetoid masses signing up to feel part of something noble and larger than life."

"I hold the same disgust toward scientology as I do toward judeo-christianity, which has delivered us the most violent century in ALL of human history, the 20th."

"So who do we blame for all of this? Well let's start with all of those organisations preaching religious tolerance. ... Think about if *your* religion would survive"
Yes, everyone is to blame. Everyone should die and join a suicide pact. Ok, I get it.

How about a pragmatic take on the recent Scientology events? Scientology much like MPAA and RIAA abuses copyright laws to bully people on the internet and sue and very litigious over clearly fair use. Therefore people are pissed off, especially culture warriors and the internets meme generators.

How about the fact that Scientology is a financial scam which pretends to be a "faith" in order for tax-free status and the exemption of "donations" for course fees. Forget the financial milking of their followers, it serves them right, but what about the tax-scam?

Who was the only group to infiltrate the US gov't including the IRS and DOJ? Was it Russia? Was it islamo-fascists? Nope, it was Scienologists and 11 of them (including Hubbard's wife) were convicted and sent to federal prison.

Scientology as acquired a massive portfolio of real estate all because of the tax shelters and loophole provided to them as a "Church" and "religion". How did they achieve such status? Seriously ask yourself that and do some research. Could YOU write a sci-fi slash religious text and get a group of 20 of your followers tax-free church status?

Also, why is it that a Jewish family that send their kids to a private school or religious camp cannot deduct those expenses, whereas scientologist can claim ALL of their course work, in the $100,000 in some cases, as donations? Why are these super rich Hollywood types allowed to pump all of this money tax free into this corporation.

If you still fail to see Scientology as a corporation, then ask yourself this, (aside from CBN) how many other religions have infomercials, amazon book stores, and also re-release all of their books and CDs every four years like it is a Star Wars franchise?

Does the Catholic church sell newly remastered and digitally restored DVDs? Seriously?

Scientology VS Chaser's Free Gullibility Test

joedirt says...

It is not a religion.. Religion, typically, first goal is to spread the religion to other people. They are concerned with people and numbers. Sure they make money, but they would rather have a billion poor people who are strong believers then just a few followers who are rich.

Corp of Sciencefictionology is based exactly opposite. It is structured so you have to have lots of money to be a follower. They focus on rich, powerful, and hollywood types that can attract others, but not in the everyone welcome way, but in the Paris Hilton-appeal way. Like a Prada bag, or paparazzi snap of a designer dress. The goal is like an infomercial or exclusive nightclub. There is a cover charge and expensive drinks.

If it was a religion, it would be free and you would want to help others become more enlightened. Instead it is expensive and they do everything to keep people out.

You should lose your tax-free status when your "church" building has a sign saying "By Invitation Only"
