Negativland - This Is Not Normal

PS5 Demo

fuzzyundies says...

I'm a game graphics coder, going way back to PS2 and Dreamcast. This video overstates things a bit... Somehow, with a little bit of programming, memory is unlimited, bus transfer speeds are infinite, drawing 10,000 triangles onto a single pixel is worthwhile and doesn't result in swim, etc.

The real version of this video would have said that they have new procedural LOD and batching technology that minimizes the content creator's work to get into game at a good frame rate.

Trump Pretends He Never Compared Coronavirus to the Flu

newtboy says...

I'm feeling it's more like 1984, where the truth is whatever Big Brother (with his tiny hands) and the ministry of truth said last, and any memories of them saying anything different just 10 minutes earlier are immediately erased and vehemently denied, with any video proof simply labeled fake news.

Nah its all because Trump is just a damn idiot with a loyal following of idiots, that cant be explained away and every daily briefing he gives cements it.

We are now close to living in an Idiocracy...

One Policy That Impacts Coronavirus Math

newtboy says...

So delusional.
You asked why, which was answered in the video clearly....I guess reality means nothing to you. An impossible dream of some magically universally enriching personal responsibility (your plan-all you need to do is save that money you aren't earning for hard(er) times) means less to me than hundreds of thousands of deaths and trillions in socialist handouts and losses.

I live in the real world, not the fantasy where being undereducated, under employed, and destitute is a choice people make. This fictional reality where everyone has the means and opportunity to succeed. If working hard and staying clean was a guarantee of financial success, you might have 1/2 a point to make, but it's not.

Yep, typical....berate me for being Santa by suggesting paid leave is smart, then pat orange Santa on the back for enacting a more expensive 1/2 ass version of that plan but wasting and grifting hundreds of billions in the process. Having it be federal law before it was too late could have slowed the spread, flattening the curve....1/2 measures long after it's an epidemic won't.

Economy, in the toilet. Unemployment, jumping faster than the great depression. Health and safety, a memory. Infrastructure, completely forgotten. Debt and deficit, skyrocketing like never before in history. How exactly are you winning today?

Come on, where's my "red tsunami 2020"?

This Black Box Reads RFID Cards in Your Pocket - LPL

AeroMechanical says...

If you're willing to spend a bit more, there are lots of industrial RFID readers that fit in a similar footprint (though requiring mains power), with ~100+ meter ranges that can process tens of thousands of tags per second.

Of course, nobody even a little bit serious about security treats the contents of the tag memory as a secret. On the other hand, there are tons of vendors (particularly in the IOT space), that don't care about infosec at all.

98 year old woman describes life before 1900

moonsammy says...

Watching this makes me wonder: what's the film recording with the oldest person recalling their oldest memories? So what, chronologically, is the oldest memory / story dedicated to film? "Talkies" started in I think 1923, so someone in their 90s at the time theoretically could've been interviewed, had someone thought to do so. Any recordings of civil war memories? Older?

No Soliciting Sign That Works Like A Charm

newtboy says...

I did, but in small form, maybe 4x5"...printed at home then laminated. I took it down about 10 years ago, and I don't have any pictures I know of....so I guess it's just a false memory. ;-)

This is phenomenal.

Did you really do that @newtboy? Do you still have it up?

Photo or it didn't happen.

Shocking Data On China’s Economic Growth

notarobot says...

This is another example of Conservative thinking. All these guys are concerned with is the right now, and the near future. The next quarter. They have no idea what they're talking about here.

China is expecting their population to increase by 300 million in the next thirty-ish years.

I'll say that again for the folks at the back:

China is expecting their population to increase by one United States of America worth of people by the 2050's.

We're talking about a country with a government founded by a workers' revolution, that has had a widespread famine in living memory. (During the Great Leap era.) This isn't ancient history.

They cannot allow "market forces" to dictate how and where people live in North America where fertile fields are plowed under to make room for sprawling suburbs.

That's why they're building. That is why they are building UP.

Young families will not be able to just go any buy a house in the suburbs. China, for the most part doesn't build suburbs. Suburbs waste space.

They need existing farmland to be protected to manage their food security. They don't want a famine, that's how you get a revolution. They don't want a revolution.

They want stability.

China doesn't worry about next quarter because they planned for that a decade ago. It's the next decades that they're planning for now---a timeframe these Conservative talking heads are incapable of understanding.

South Park | New Israel ROCKS!

eric3579 says...

I loved that South Park chose to use a song off their debut (best) album, as i thought Van Halen music declined quickly after their first couple records.

On a side note, It was also my first record purchase along with Boston's second album and The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1. Man i had good music taste at thirteen years old I still remember being in the store picking out those albums. A pretty exciting day as i recall. Good memories

Pallbearer Snub Mitch McConnell At Elijah Cummings' Memorial

newtboy says...

Some info about why....

Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, was intentionally snubbed by a pallbearer, Bobby Rankin, at the late congressman Elijah Cummings' memorial service at the Capitol on Thursday. The pallbearer walked down the line of attendees and shook hands with the House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, and the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer, before walking past McConnell to hug the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.
Mr Rankin explained that his brother, who died exactly one year before the memorial service, like numerous servicemen contracted multiple cancers directly linked to drinking (well documented) contaminated water while he was stationed at camp Lejeune, and was denied his military benefits thanks in large part to McConnell personally blocking legislation Cummings had produced with bipartisan support that would have given those poisoned by the military's negligence during their military service the benefits they earned and were promised, and he could not shake hands with a "person" (and I use that term loosely) who would throw injured servicemen into a ditch after stealing their benefits.
Bravo, sir. Bravo.

White House Chief of Staff Admits Quid Quo Pro in Ukraine

newtboy says...

Bob thinks it's related because Trump told him Biden withheld funding in a quid quo pro exchange for halting an investigation of Biden's son, and Bob only listens to Trump and has no memory of or interest in facts if they contradict Trump.

Wait, what does Biden have to do with this video?
