South African Handshake

Jon Stewart supporting OWS on "Rock Center"

curiousity says...

It's easy to see these two like each other and it is a pleasure to watch them interact.

I dunno I got the exact opposite impression from the interview, it looked really tense, and that last handshake seemed like they were squeezing eachother's hands like the father of a teenage daughter would squeeze the hand of her prom date.

I guess I'm bringing in the other times that I've seen them interact. They like to give each other a hard time, but it is obvious that they like each other (over the entire course of interactions I've seen between them.)

/manly handshake with a twist

In reply to this comment by enoch:
you know i just reread my comment on the military post.
i didnt mean to come across as condescending.i am full aware of your interest in psychology and was just trying to add a personal perspective.

guess i could have chosen my words more carefully.i was using your comment to illuminate on a broader scale how they basically brainwash you in boot camp.
i truly did not mean for it to come across in any other way.
i just used your comment as a spring board but it really wasnt directed towards you.

epic fail on my part.
forgive? /bats eyes

9 Year Olds Brawl During Hockey Game Handshake

Stupid fucking sport played by the stupid fucking spawn of stupid fucking morons.

Tell me how you really feel.

Sheesh, what hockey player pissed in your cheerios this morning?

Personally I like hockey, I think parents and coaches that don't teach their kids to be good sports are definitely a problem in any sport. So I guess I could say I somewhat agree with the last part of your derogatory and somewhat offensive emote.

TYT - Top Republican Spin Doctor Scared of Occupy

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Uh - no offense - but Frank Luntz is about as 'insider' as you can get. He is not a conservative. He is a GOP wonk. Putting it simply - he's one of those RINOs that real conservatives can't stand and who sells true conservatism down the river every chance he gets.

The GOP insiders want Romney. They want Romney because he is the person they have polled as being the most 'normal'. Above all else, the GOP insiders want someone bland, flavorless, and easy to swallow. They don't want the Sarah Palins, or the Herman Cains, or Ron Paul, or anyone else. They want vanilla, plain-jane, smart sounding, pretty for the camera, non-controversial candidates.

Romney would probably lose to Obama though. So why does the GOP want him? Quite simply, the GOP (as a political party) wants to keep the House, and win the Senate. And they think that Romney is the guy that would give them the best chance to do that. He is so inoffensive, that he would not really 'damage' the critical House/Senate races they want to win in 2012. And if the GOP keeps the House and wins the Senate then the GOP gets to head up all those committee chairmanships, get charge of all the appropriations, and basically run the show. They wouldn't care whether Obama was still President as long as they got to run the town. That is the perspective that Luntz is coming from. Any candidate that risks the GOP 'master plan' is seen as someone to beat down and toss off the overpass rolled up in a flaming carpet.

The normal voters don't give a flying handshake about OWS. OWS is a bunch of freaks, losers, and radicals who will have absolutely no impact on the presidential election whatsoever. But they have a remote chance of messing up a few House & Senate races... That's the only thing our dear Frank cares about.

Russians wont shake Obamas hand

Kofi says...

He's not getting snubbed.

Watch the last two interactions. He isnt even close enough to shake hands. The first one, when they enter the room, is definitely a handshake. You can see Medvedev gesture (the same way Obama does later) towards those he wishes to introduce. It is then edited to a later stage where it appears Obama is the one doing the introducing.

If you look at the room they are all on one side so both the Russian and American delegation would be there. I would say that it was the Russians being introduced first and then vice-versa. Why would Medvedev be shaking hands and saying "hello" in a way that you do when you are first being introduced to multiple people to members of his own staff? Obama seems to extend his arm forward when ignored but he also steps back a little. I think this is just making up for a delay in Medvedevs shaking on the previous shake.

Either he was being snubbed and then converted it to a gesturing towards people he is introducing (a George Costanza type move) or he was gesturing from the edit onwards.

Russians wont shake Obamas hand

vaire2ube says...

my initial reaction: it cuts off before the first handshake? ... the timing and depth seem off... isnt obama introducing the guy to the others?

but i cant tell, so i looked at the youtube comments and people are split...

"At the very beginning of this video, it is Medvedev that puts his hand out first to guide Obama and gesture toward the line-up, so I do not think it was a matter of Obama making the introductions as some are suggesting. Looks like Obama makes a couple of obvious attempts at a handshake and after being snubbed, he continues to put his hand out like it's a gesture of acknowledgement to cover the snubs. The title of this video seems accurate." -yt comment

Handshake

Tribe Meets White Man for the First Time

xxovercastxx says...

>> ^dag:

via our pals at Reddit. My favorite part is where they pound on their heads after tasting something, I guess as an indication that it's delicious. I wonder how that gesture developed?

To me that has to be the most difficult part of first contact: gestures.

It's a given that you can't communicate verbally, so what do you do? Simple touch is said to be a natural way to put people at ease, but it can also be unwelcome.

A firm handshake, as we normally do in western civilization, could be interpreted as aggression. Pointing could seem hostile, too.

A smile or laugh might have different meaning in different cultures (I've heard that laughter is more associated with nervousness in some eastern cultures).

If they are particularly superstitious, the mirror could have been seen as a trap or trick. The man in the mirror could be imprisoned. The cameras could appear to be weapons.

Now maybe this tribe was observed for a while before contact or maybe there were other tribes they got information from. Maybe there was some assurance that this tribe was very peaceful; I have no idea. But, in general, this seems like a very difficult and dangerous thing to pull off.

Agreed...don't forget the lobbyist. In the end both parties are controlled by getting elected next term.

>> ^dag:

I'm not sure that "controlled" is the right word. It indicates there is a nefarious organised system, with club meetings and secret handshakes. I would substitute "strongly influenced" through campaign contributions and pork projects in congressional districts.

yup thats me bro, me on guitar, and awesome that it reminds you of deftones. Thats kind of what we're goin for: a deftones meets radiohead sort of thing. The heavy, sexy edge of deftones with the ambient, experimental electronica of radiohead.

i dont sing but im kind of the opposite when it comes to originals and covers. I was never really all that good at playing covers (especially memorizing em) but my talent shines when im playing original stuff. Glad you like it mate =)

In reply to this comment by Duckman33:
Wow that's some good shit! Seriously. That's your brother singing that? Kind of reminds me of The Deftones. At least he can sing originals, something I never could get the knack for. I'm just a imitator unfortunately. Never could find my voice. Mostly due to me being overly critical of my own singing I was just never happy with any original stuff I did.

And yes /handshake. I can pretty much be a prick myself when I want to be as you no doubt have figured out, LOL. I hate arguing with musicians. We are all brothers and sisters in my eyes.

and whats funny about karaoke? its fun (usually more so if you CANT sing like me), derp derp derp, ......and probably stuck up

Exactly, which is why I don't take it seriously when someone refers to a karaoke star as proof of talent. And yes if that makes me stuck up then so be it. I'm stuck up.

more than just a "karaoke star" i assure you: http://soundcloud.com/sphiralstudios (our bands works in progress page)
http://soundcloud.com/wolvestulsa (the full page, mixed and mastered. A few are being redone, namely Under Cover of Night and Some Kind of Bird, mainly because the songs have evolved from when we first wrote and recorded em (whats on there now) to what they are currently)

its in my nature to be an asshole, it takes some getting used to i suppose, so apologies for that. Put in another way, i was merely pointing out that i had four other "professional grade" singers listen to it and they flatly disagreed with your position, namely that there were plenty of "sour notes" and just an overall lack of pitch control (a talent rarely seen in today's pop stars, as opposed to say, maynard james keenan).

Guess thats just what i was trying to say, but in a dickish manner =P

/handshake?
