Insane Baseball Spin Swing

ForgedReality says...

>> ^Kevlar:
Why is it that we have 27 slow-mo replays of every other video, but not one slow-mo on this one?

Because it's recorded with a shitty handheld mini camcorder. Just look at the fucking retarded framerate. You'd see three frames on a slow-mo with this one.

edit - actually it could have something to do with the way it was encoded, but either way, it would be excruciating to watch.

Jimmy Fallon with Project Natal

kagenin says...

You'll notice how everyone is wearing orange jumpsuits?

That's not because they're fashionable, that's for sure. It's because the software isn't capable of "finding" person without help in the form of a huge orange marker. Granted it could be the studio lighting is too powerful... or it could be that the vision isn't particularly good at discerning background information from relevant player movements. I've dabbled with computer vision software - its not easy hacking by any means. Not impossible, that's for sure, but I doubt we'll see the huge strides still needed to complete whatever plans MS may have for Natal within a few months, that's for sure.

Everything about Natal screams "We're not nearly ready to sell this, but we'll keep pretending it's ready by showing people playing our tech demos." Just like the original 360 - it was rushed, and suffers a high rate of hardware failure for it (16%, or 4 out of every 25 360s sold, granted that number is prior to the Jasper revision, which supposedly has cut number down, but remember that across the entire consumer electronics industry, the hardware failure rate is 15%, and the Wii and PS3 fail at a rate of 3%).

I own a Wii, got it just a couple weeks after it launched, and I make no apology for enjoying it. I've been playing video games for over 25 years, and watched the industry evolve into what it is today. Microsoft is repeating the mistakes it's made since entering the console business, and I'm surprised they've lasted this long.

Besides, Nintendo has historic ties to the Yakuza. How cool is that?

I'm not just a Wii fanboy. I'm a I <3 The Big N Fanboy, diehard. I see my favorite game maker rise to power as it did in my childhood, and I laugh at the wannabe tech that Sony and MS have been scrambling to try and 1-up Nintendo, but they both fall short. Motion-control wasn't added to the PS3 control until late in it's development, after they saw what Nintendo was doing with the Wii remote, and they thought that they could just take that, just as they took their basic controller design from the SNES pad. The DS has outsold the PSP by over 2-to-1, and there hasn't been a time in the last 20 years when they didn't dominate the handheld market.

Honor Among Thieves (Blog Entry by Sarzy)

blankfist says...

Very impressive, Sarzy. I especially liked the long handheld (steadicam) fluid master shot down the hall. I do like it when movies take their time to tell a story like that. Hopefully it won't be the last film you make. In this industry, even calling cards aren't enough. I have friends who are doing some big shit right now, but that's not helping me out at all. It's a tough industry, but to enjoy it is to need to pursue it doggedly.

I think the biggest gripe I'd have with it is the length. It may behoove you to consider using an editor outside of yourself. I cut a rough assembly of my movie, then handed it off to an editor. My rough assembly was just at two hours and ten minutes. The final cut is now just under 90 mintues.

I think all heist movies should have actors with Canadian accents. I think you did an excellent job, hombre. Keep at it!

By the way, what did you shoot this with?

Whats the best console? (User Poll by Throbbin)

Shepppard says...

360.

I used to work as customer support for microsoft up here in Canada, and I know everything about the system. I know it's problems, and how to fix them, I even know why three red lights happens.

The system has a number of problems, but unfortunately for the other consoles, it's got a whack of things that it does RIGHT, too.

The live service is stable, More-so I find then the ps3's and much better quality. The downloads and management is much cleaner, and more user friendly, in terms of games, it has more variety then the ps3 if only because it launched earlier and truth be told, I absolutely HATE the L2/R2 buttons on a Ps3 controller.

I own all 3 consoles, Ps3 is great, but I don't feel the need to rank it first because of its blue ray capabilities and web browser. Wii was a huge disappointment, I actually swallowed my pride and lined up for that thing on launch day, got it home, played red steel, and the novelty wore off almost instantly. It's great for parties or playing with my family, but not for much else.

On the whole, 360 for me, hands down.

Handhelds on the other hand.. well, that could be an even better question.

Dsi, Ds, PsP, iPhone/iTouch, or mobile phone?

DSi - Picture capabilities, DS games, Mp3 capabilities, Web browser
DS - Ds games, GBA games
PsP - PsP games, PsP movies, Able to download movies onto its SD card for free.
iStuff - Mp3 capabilities, Web browser, Games, apps
Mobile - Mobile games, Potential camera, Potential Mp3

THAT would be a much better question imo.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Coming To PS3 (Videogames Talk Post)

davidraine says...

Let's put this rumor to rest once and for all. As soon as the FF7 fanboys and girls saw those 30 seconds of remade FF7 footage as a PS3 tech demo, they were all beside themselves looking for news on a release date, other footage, news exclusives, any sort of scoop to let them know that their beloved game would be re-released in a far more awesome form. However, it's simply not going to happen. At least, it won't happen for PS3.

Squaresoft as a rule didn't re-release any of their games. Once a game was done, it was done. Squaresoft moved onto the next title, and in the rare event that a game actually got a direct sequel (I'm looking at you, Chrono Cross) the sequel was a radical re-imagining of the setting, and it departed completely from the gameplay in the first title. There were a couple of exceptions in that a few Final Fantasy titles were re-released for the Playstation, but on the whole they were not retouched, and if I remember correctly there were various problems with the releases, leading them to be largely panned.

Once Squaresoft merged with Enix to become Square-Enix, things changed a bit, but not in a way that supports the PS3 release hypothesis. The only games to get re-released were much older titles, which were re-released on handheld consoles to target a new market. Most of these are old Nintendo titles rereleased for the GBA, and more recently, the DS and PSP. Most of these were straight up copies of the original game with a little bit added on or minor graphics revisions: These could be done on the cheap and grab a whole bunch of new cash. Only the DS versions were vastly retouched, and I haven't seen the sales numbers on those, so I can't say whether there will be more of them.

There are a couple of exceptions. A couple of games were re-released with added content. Kindom Hearts II: Final Mix and Final Fantasy XII International both got this treatment, but they were rereleased for the same system (PS2) and were Japan-only. The most notable exception was Final Fantasy Tactics, which saw a re-release on the PSP along with a (much needed) new translation and a couple of added jobs. FFT: War of the Lions was I think the most recent of Square-Enix's rereleases, and seems to be the most likely path for an FF7 re-release.

So the most likely chance of seeing an FF7 re-release is on the PSP with no graphical improvement, and maybe a touch of added features. Even that seems unlikely to me, and seeing it on the PS3 is nothing more than a dream, since the cost of porting it and reworking all of the graphics as well as rewriting the code to run on PS3's hardware doesn't justify the expense: Square-Enix would rather make a new game.

Conclusion: Until I see a press release from Square-Enix with a release date for an FF7 re-release, it isn't happening.

Wheel of Misfortune: or Why VCR Games Failed.

Tymbrwulf says...

>> ^spoco2:
How unnecessarily complex that was. So, yeah, the VCR did, um, well, nothing other than tell the handheld unit what puzzle to display (how did it do that? A camera looking at the screen?). And nothing else.
Basically it would seem, from the age of the VCR in the clip, that this was just trying its darndest to cash in on the latest fandangled VCR craze.
The ones that I remember being advertised where... oh, can't remember the name, like DungeonMaster or CryptKeeper or something. You can get it as a DVD game now. But they actually used the video for something I think.

Nice. So the only purpose of the tape is to tell the hand-held game which puzzle to load. I remember several VCR based games...and how terrible they were.

Yeah... I'm kinda wondering why we needed the VCR at all. Just put the games in the handheld.
