That Dio concert was so damn cool. Green lasers making cones around Dio in the smoke, huge laser Dio logos on the wall. Maybe we can find a video of Dio live with that laser show, that would be great.

I'm very sad to hear about this. Dio was a fantastic vocalist and showman with a long and great career.

I thought I was going to get to see him in a couple of weeks when Heaven and Hell and Iron Maiden played near here.

Hope its okay commenting on your Blog Dag.

Dio Live - Rainbow In The Dark

NordlichReiter says...

One of the first things on my Zombie Apocalypse TODO list is to create a monster stereo system (After amassing large amounts of ammo and making a kill zone); and blast a select few of my favorite tracks. Among a few choice tracks of my own, to test the base output, Rainbow in the Dark would be one of the first songs I would let rip.

Just imagine; flying over my entrenched position in a helicopter while hearing the loud riffs and screaming vocals of Dio's epic track, as the night is ripped up by the muzzle flashes from my M-60 Machine Gun. BAM BAM BAM!

I can't wait....

RIP

Dio passed away from complications due to Stomach Cancer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_James_Dio

On 25 November 2009, his wife/manager announced that Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer:[13]

"Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans. Long live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio. Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up."

On 14 March 2010, Dio's wife and manager Wendy posted an online update on his condition:

"It has been Ronnie's 7th chemo, another cat scan and another endoscopy, and the results are good – the main tumour has shrunk considerably, and our visits to Houston (cancer clinic in Texas) are now every three weeks instead of every two weeks."

On 4 May 2010, Heaven and Hell announced they were cancelling all summer dates as a result of Dio's ill health.[14]

Dio died at 7:45am (CDT) on May 16, 2010, according to official sources. [15][16][17]

Wendy Dio said on Ronnie's official site:[18][19]

"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

Sabbath represents so many sacred things.... Ozzy is the perfect metal singer... see to me Dio's voice doesn't say metal. It says opera. It even has an almost jazzy feel to it. He is undoubtedly good singer, but I don't necessarily think that good singing makes for a better metal band. He's too polished for me. Too melodic. Iommi is an innovator and really made a huge mark on the music world with Ozzy.

bah..sabbath was not only my first love but my first concert.never say die 1978.i love ozzy, loved sabbath's first 5 albums from front to back but you gotta give dio some credit.his ability to sing a far greater range than Ozzy let Iommi show what he could REALLY do.the last concert i saw from sabbath was born again.that was sad night, not that sabbath sucked, ian gillan was superb..no..it was the fact that almost the whole civic center was there for quiet riot.how sad is that?

yeah..you got me..you got the tater.
was waxing nostalgic last night.im glad somebody else enjoyed starships "stranger",and while i did enjoy DIO's solo projects ..well..ok,only the first two albums,i totally agree with you that he did his best work with sabbath.
i read an interview with tony iommi and he stated that dio had such a great range it freed him up to play much more complicated scales than with ozzy.
while i am an avid sabbath fan,my favorite ozzy/sabbath albums are really just the first 5.never say die and technical ecstasy are ok but too experimental in my opinion.
