BLACK SABBATH-heaven and hell (LIVE)

Stormsinger says...

Even though I was a fan from way back in the days of War Pigs and Ironman, Black Sabbath never sounded so good as when Dio was singing for them. This song (the studio version in particular) is quite possibly the best they ever did. It always surprised me that I didn't particularly care for his solo work.

Patton Oswalt on 80's Heavy Metal

Yeah, I hate to say it, but Damn Yankees does not fit the Heavy Metal genre of the 80's. More like Iron Maiden, Dio, Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Priest, Sepultura, etc. Damn Yankes was more pop-rock than metal.

But you could say they were seen as "mainstream heavy metal" at the time, I dont think they are metal at all, but at the time, all sorts of crap were labeled metal.
Sepultura, slayer, early metallica, those are trash metal. Weren't trash metal bands part of the underground scene?

Yeah, you have a point there. I listened to a lot of different genres back then. Everything from Gary Newman to Steely Dan to King Diamond. But now that I think about it, those bands were labeled as "trash, or thrash metal" back in the day.

Brutal Legend = Tenacious D + God of War?

poolcleaner says...

Tim Schafer + Rock n' Roll = win. Everything he's ever worked on has been amazing. Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Psychonauts...

Plus! The main character is voiced over by Jack Black; as well as Lemmy, Rob Halford and fucking Dio having rolls in the game. Hopefully It doesn't get cut with the Activision Blizzard merger... None of Schafers projects should ever get cut -- ever!

Sift Entropy (Sift Talk Post)

gorgonheap says...

I think dupes would be a lot easier to see if people labeled their submissions properly. i.e. a couple o months back I submitted Dio's song Holy Diver. There was an existing one but it didn't have Holy Diver in the tags or title. So when it was pointed out by a member who was pretty irate with me that it was a dupe. I had no way of knowing because a search for it and the possible duplicates didn't bring it up at all.

The moral of the story: give your video proper tags. Not only that but it would clear up a ton of videos in the dead pool that say stuff like "Holy Crap!" and "Unspecified humanoid in Unspecified State does Unspecified activity."

The Top 20 Coolest Guitar Riffs

savethecirclepit says...

Yes, Iron Butterfly and I have though of a few more since I posted and I will probably think of many more. I think a best of list is very subjective to the list makers personal taste. I mean if you hate Nirvana, for example, you will not put Teen Spirit on a best of list. It doesn't make it any less of a good riff you just personally don't like Nirvana. Like choosing a favorite song. I would be hard pressed to pick one favorite song or one favorite band even because my moods change from week to week. This week it's death metal(Morbid Angel, Deicide, Suffocation ect.). Last week it was black metal(Venom, Mayhem, Darkthrone ect.). And next week it may be something else. Depending on which week you ask you may get an entirely different answer. I wrote about this condition one time and I coined the term "multiple music personality disorder" or m.m.p.d. for short. This is an affliction that render the person broke from trying to keep up with and collect so many different genres of music. I blame the internet for making all these obscure band readily available. Thanks for the background on the Black Sabbath riff. Oh that reminds me that riff in the middle of Chapel Of Ghouls(Morbid Angel) and Crazy Train(Ozzy) and Whiplash-Metallica,now thats a huge riff and Holy Diver(Dio) and The Trooper(Iron Maiden) and..........................................................

That's really generous Raven. I'm going to keep an eye your post however and when or if I can change out codes I'll put yours back in it's rightful position. Thanks for the offer. Cheers!

uh.... am rather fond of Dio... but, as I didn't have the time to fix it when i got the notice and, as I still don't have time to fix it... I say, go ahead and keeps it... consider it a present from me to you, to aid in your own quest for a diamond

In reply to this comment by gorgonheap:
Rave! Thought I would let you know there is an issue with the Dio post. Yours is dead and I posted a new one an looris is in a tizzy. So here's what I'll do. If you want to resurrect it then let me know and I'll trash mine. Otherwise it stays. Fair? let me know.
