Bill Maher - The "Gettable" Ken Bone

newtboy says...

This episode, Bill seemed to be "interviewing" people by putting words in their mouths or pushing them to say what he wanted. He was clearly put out that Ken wouldn't say who he voted for, and again with his fourth guest, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, for not just saying what Bill wanted him to say.
That's not a good look, Bill..

tbh, as much as a I think you put it very eloquently, the response will still be "but why does it matter".

It is interesting that Ken Ham apparently can't begin to face the possibility that he might not exist for eternity. I mean really, surely here is a man who believes in God because the idea of an end is too terrifying and inconceivable. On some level I wonder if he doesn't know that his feeling is irrelevant to the reality. How fitting then that he resides in a museum of deception and delusion.

Interesting that a fundamentalist Christian is arguing a completely nihilist position. Nye could have done much better in responding to him: that we have a moral obligation to future generations to enable the species to continue to evolve and survive indefinitely. A scientific treatment of global climate change can provide us direction in how to ameliorate adverse changes that current and prior generations have created, whereas the "Christian" position, that global climate change is the result of sins by our current culture, doesn't lead to an effective strategy to ensure survival of the species.

From that opening, part of the difference, is that Ken's belief is the end of his journey. For scientists, belief is the start of the journey. We think something is true, so we go out and try find out if it is true or not.

The Making of "Saving Private Ryan"

Good post. I've always been interested in the history of WWII, I'm re-reading Ken Burns' "The War" these days. The best book I have read is David Webster's "Parachute Infantry", he was a good writer who was there at the Normandy and Market Garden airdrops and also did Germany occupation duty. They did him a real disservice in the "Band of Brothers" episode "The Last Patrol", they made him out to be a weasel when he was anything but.

I feel so smart when I watch him. I say we should keep him around and not shit on him for making us all feel better about being less athleetic and more intelligent. Sure, he's an entitled asshole, but really, what does he gain from his selfishness? He doesn't even know what a douche is.

Who cares about what this guy does. He should be allowed to go around and be dumb. It's funny. I mean, people let me go around and be dumb. Why not let someone of pure stupidity just be? It's adorable.

Boys don't cry -- but some of them certainly play like girls. And by playing like girls, I mean having the goddamn time of their lives. Not that I believe playing with barbies is the height of what a woman does in her youth, but damn, I love those play sets.

Ken Burns slams Trump in Stanford Commencement

Golden quote:
"In this week of trial and tragedy, Trump showed us how he would govern — by fear, by intimidation, by lies, by turning American against American, by exhibiting all the empathy of a sociopath. Seal this week. Put it in a time capsule. Teach it. History will remember. But come November, will we?"

By the way, I've stayed out of this extremely boring back and forth. There was nothing to be gained by weighing in. It finally has come to a blessed end, just as this op-ed was published in the New York Times.

So I'll say it again, since this video is my contribution to the Sift and I am claiming final word. I may not be accorded it, but I am claiming it.

It is a stone hard fact that eligible does not equal fit. A brain-damaged accident victim with the right birth certificate, with the right age, is eligible to be president. That person is not fit to be president. This is logic. It just is. You can ignore the crystalline beauty of the fact of this analogy and have a fine time talking around it. Doesn't change the fact that Ken Burns is right, Timothy Egan is right, Mitt Romney, both Bushes, Meg Whitman, and the Republican strategist who is quoted in this op-ed are all right.

Trump is unfit for the Presidency.
