There is a secret message on your digital music player (Blog Entry by dystopianfuturetoday)

Ornthoron says...

Daybreak - Chet Baker
Family - The National Bank
Cigarett - Bo Kaspers Orkester
10,000 Days (Part 2) - Tool
Green Earrings - Steely Dan

Fairly straightforward if you ask me. I get up in the morning to spend time with my family. I don't smoke, so the cigarette might be a metaphor for general morning rituals. I'll get approximately 27 years (10,000 days) of happy family life before all the kids have moved out. I will first have to establish a family, though. This can be facilitated by gifting some earrings of rare design to a certain someone. Maybe that certain someone is the one who sent the message?

Billionaire Complains About Having To Pay Taxes

kir_mokum says...

i would rather be able to pay $13 000/day in income tax and still be able to afford a house like that than not. $13 000/day sounds like a lot because most people can't fathom making a year's salary in a day.

The Million Dollar Slave (You) (Philosophy Talk Post)

imstellar28 says...

$1.4 million dollars for good health, some cool shit, dinners, and some movies? 12 years slaving 40 hours a week without a dime towards you or your family?

Yeah I agree the government needs to raise money, but $1.4 million on average per person? I can see giving maybe 1-2 years of my life, maybe 5-10% of my annual income...but $1.4 million, come on.

Maybe you don't realize what $1.4 million really is. You can take a 7 day all-you-can-eat Caribbean cruise for $70 a day. So thats ~20,000 days or 54 years you could spend on a cruise ship for the same price of that tax bill. But I guess a TV, a few dinners, and some movies is just as good?

>> ^peggedbea:
i assume you got to live reasonably well and in reasonably good health. you probably even got to buy cool shit, go out to dinners and see some movies.

What are your favorite album covers? (Art Talk Post)

wazant says...

Gotta chime in here.

Here's a cover that may be largely responsible for a 40-year career (it helps that the music was and has stayed great too):
http://tralfaz-archives.com/coverart/K/king_crimson_court.html

Roger Dean was a great match for the music of Yes--really seemed to complete them. His most elaborate work for the band:
http://tralfaz-archives.com/coverart/Y/yes.html

Led Zeppelin also produced a couple of fun covers, with cutouts and moving bits so you could customize them, kinda. Zeppelin III had cutouts with a rotating inner layer of different pictures that showed through. Physical Graffiti had a bunch of windows cut out, with different scenes for each one on the various inner sleeves of the double album. You can't get that with a CD, and the Internet images I found weren't very helpful either.

There are a couple of CDs with fun covers, though. Tool, also mentioned above, had a 3D cover for Ænima and another kind of 3D booklet and glasses for 10,000 Days; Lateralus featured a booklet printed on clear plastic, so you could peel away the image like in some anatomy books you may have seen. Also Beck's "The Information" was basically blank and came with lots of stickers so you could make your own version.

TOOL - Pushit (live)

thinker247 says...

I know. I still love them, but the last two times I saw them the majority of their songs were from 10,000 Days. And as much as I love the album, I wanted to heard more from Lateralus and Aenima. Especially this song, which is one of my favorites, for that 8:23 note. *shivers*

>> ^cdominus:
That would have been awesome to be there live, Maynard doesn't go long and high live like he did at 8:23 anymore. At least he hasn't the last few times I've seen them.

Tool - Sober
