yep; as I understand it, the constraint on high speed touring cars and sports cars--is the tires and how long they can run at high speed and temps.

Never buy tires rated for lower speed than your car's top speed.

130 mph isn't that fast at all, especially for a Lambo, those tires must have been old, defective, or a low rating that never should have been installed on a sports car.

As I understood it, the Veron was designed with specific tires that could handle it's top speed for 15 minutes (when new), so the fuel tank was designed to have enough fuel for top speed for only 12 minutes as a safety feature.

True; not that'd I'd rather crash at either, but---better 60 mph than 130?

It's the 100km/h - 0km/h in 0.0 seconds that's usually the problem.
Like falling, it's not the high speeds that get you, it's the sudden stop at the end.

All cars can go 0-100km/h in seconds. I've even done that on a bicycle(in the mountains). Not saying you're wrong about killing yourself quickly, just that it doesn't only apply to exotics sports cars;)

Sounds like someone saved a lot of money on their transport insurance.
