Zero Punctuation: The Walking Dead

probie says...

Bought this during the Steam summer sale and have been putting off watching this until I got through the first two episodes. Yahtzee's right; one thing the game excels at is putting you into situations where you need to make hard decisions. It also excels at keeping the story focused on the strife that pops up between characters rather than the zombies themselves, which is the blueprint for any good zombie apocalypse yarn. Looking forward to the last three episodes, although I don't know if I'd be interested in a Season 2 of the game which I understand Telltale is doing.

Ok, I lied. Of course I'll check out Season 2....

@Shepppard

There were TWO boob videos? Shit, I missed one of them.

Tell you what, when the endless cat videos, the assinine Zero Punctuation reviews (that only one person seems to post; I haven't figured THAT one out yet), the David Mitchell rants (which aren't the least bit funny or interesting), and the daily Daily Show, Colbert Report, QI, TYT, and Graham Norton videos go away, we can talk about the FOUR (five?) UP videos.

The problem is, no matter what I think about the videos I mentioned (and I do enjoy and upvote some of them), they get lots of votes. So... boohoo for me. That's how it works. Video gets submitted, people vote on it. If you don't like this video, downvote it. You aren't going to hurt my feelings. But if you are going to cry about this harmless 25 second video that I had a little fun with and others found worthy enough for an upvote, and give a pass to other, much more profuse videos that I feel "add nothing", then I'm not interested in your fucking opinion.

Zero Punctuation: Diablo 3

Not playing it how Blizzard intended for it to be played is exactly why there is such an uproar over the game in the first place. Everyone wants to have their way with their Blizzard game and Blizzard ain't complying. Yeah the DRM sucks but there isn't all that much different in Diablo 3 than any other recent Blizz title. It's a scheme. Anyone who has played any of their games since War3 knows that the games are multi-tiered so what at first seems like a simple, boring, repetitive game ends up being finely tuned & crafted in the end. By ACT III on Nightmare mode it becomes apparent and if one doesn't get that far into the game then they really shouldn't be giving it a review because they should just know better from the get-go.

It's got some of the best multiplayer aspects that I've had in recent memory, running relentlessly across vast floors trying to avoid pools of Hell, or encountering impossible zombie mobs moving 50% faster than normal. It's a lot of fun. Blizzard is a different company than they were back in the day, I don't like it as nearly as much as the first Diablo, for sure... but it's still fantastic. It's still Blizzard. Great mechanics - for what it is - better art direction than most games, great sound and the absolute insanity of it on the more difficult modes where it really comes together. Yeah there are a lot of things that piss me off about D3...

I must admit it seems to me like Blizz didn't give it their all on this one... maybe so they can make sure people go back to their cash cow
The levels are barely random, what the ^%$# is up with the lag? There is too much loot like Yahtzee said, the normal mode IS too easy, nightmare & normal are light/day... don't waste our time. The art direction is great... but not as great as I'd expect from Blizz, muddy textures, accesses the hard-drive too frequently, some of those "cut-scenes" are whack, on Hell mode the random encounters are more difficult than the main quests, no in game auction house? Why the hell is that loot popup menu always there? The story is dumb as fuck. But, regardless that is what the Diablo series is - not much innovation here except in chaos and mechanics and that is good enough for me. We can't compare every Blizz game to WoW... and that is exactly why D3 is great, it's like WoW-ultralite meets Left For Dead, nothing wrong with that.

I like the game. You can switch to elective mode so that you can change up all your skill bindings. The comment about someone stealing the better trousers is false since each person gets there own seperate loot drop. I dont agree with yahtzee on this review then.

Saying normla mode is easy is because it is normal mode. Its just meant to get you through the first run through since you dont have the cool items or cool skills yet.

You gotta admit, Silent Hill 2 IS pretty good though...

Dually noted.

Going back and playing that game seems more terrifying than what I remember... It might have something to do with the graphics and the inability to see the creatures stalking me.

Again with someone getting shitty at Yahtzee for 'reviewing' a game unfavourably that they enjoy.
He doesn't really do REVIEWS, he's doing critiques, and ones for laffs, not for actual, deep searching into the soul of a game and recommending whether you play it or not.

You can't critique something you've played literally less than 10% of.
Seriously, I'm not generally one of the people who get pissed off at his reviews. However, when 90% of what he's saying is very obviously wrong, I have a problem with that. People take his "Critiques" seriously, and if he doesn't like it, people don't play it. So when he makes an unfavourable "critique" about something based on non-existent things, yeah, I get a tad upset.

I've learned it's usually pointless to get too worked up about reviews that I don't agree with completely, whether it's from Yahtzee or anyone else, I enjoy what I play and don't give a toss what anyone else thinks. As for the arbitrary decision of who gets to make moral choices for the entire group, I have to wonder if I'm an evil Sith bastard, what am I doing adventuring with a goody-two-shoes lightsider in the first place?

I hear that other people really love Skyrim, but given that I almost instantly lost interest in both Oblivion and Fallout 3 when I played them, I'm just gonna save my money and not bother.

Yawn... If you're not going to try it, then your opinion does not count. Portal 2 was boring once you played it through, and it seemed more gimmicky and felt shorter than the first.

I'm not saying Skyrim sucks, I'm just saying it's not my cup of tea. The odd thing is, it seems like it should be exactly my cup of tea, but there's just something about those games that I just find...boring.

When I played through Portal 2, I felt very mixed emotions about it. It was good, but still a letdown somehow. Yahtzee's review of it totally nailed what was wrong (the story, mostly).

At the time I was like "so it wasn't the most awesome thing ever, there's still the whole rest of the year to go for something better to come along."

Now it's 2012, and I have to grudgingly agree with Yahtzee -- I think the best game of 2011 was Portal 2, and it just wasn't as good as Portal 1.
