The WKRP in Cincinnati closing theme lyrics are gibberish

Ashenkase says...

"The closing theme, "WKRP In Cincinnati End Credits," was a hard rock number composed and performed by Jim Ellis, an Atlanta musician who recorded some of the incidental music for the show. According to people who attended the recording sessions, Ellis didn't yet have lyrics for the closing theme, so he improvised a semi-comprehensible story about a bartender to give an idea of how the finished theme would sound. Wilson decided to use the words anyway, since he felt that it would be funny to use lyrics that were deliberate gibberish, as a satire on the incomprehensibility of many rock songs.[21] Because CBS always had an announcer talking over the closing credits, Wilson knew that no one would hear the closing theme lyrics."

Pink Floyd ~ Sheep

Fletch says...

The first Pink Floyd album I bought.

I was watching WKRP in Cincinnati way back in the day, and there was a scene where the bosses walked into the studio and Johnny Fever was listening to "Dogs". It blew me away. I didn't catch the name of the artist or the song, but they showed the album cover. I went down to PayLess the next day and started in the "A"s, looking at every record until I found the one I had seen on the show. Paid $7.99 for it, took it home, and listened to it for the next 30-some years.

I love all that is Pink Floyd, especially Roger Waters era, as well as his solo stuff.

The difference a laugh track makes

Ah yes, the old Jennifer vs. Bailey debate--second only to the eternal Mary Ann vs Ginger. I saw this coming as I watched the clip, which gives equal time to both (for a change). I too am a solid Bailey man from way back. (I also come down on the Mary-Ann side, for what it's worth.)

... On a side note, Loni Anderson may be the official bombshell of WKRP, but I still liked Jan Smithers as Bailey.

If a show has a laugh track, I simply cannot enjoy it. It feels so forced and fake. I really want to like The Big Bang Theory, but that annoying laugh track absolutely ruins it for me.

I watched the episode of The Big Bang Theory with Summer Glau and laugh tracks was one big reason why I can't stand them anymore.

Stewart vs. O'Reilly Uncut

notarobot says...

I often disagree with Bill O. Almost always actually. That being the case, there are a few examples of him conducting a top-rate, respectable interview, which he is apparently completely capable of. I found this one a while back of him speaking with Venus Flytrap from WKRP in Cincinnati.

This is probably about as close as I will come to having anything resembling respect for Bill O'Reilly. I've never watched his show and all the videos I see of him make him seem like a complete idiot (even this one). But, watching him with Jon Stewart, there's a genuine camaraderie between them that, well, makes me not hate Bill so much. They disagree on the issue but, they can argue about it without it getting out of hand. I think it's mostly due to Jon Stewart. He seems to bring out the "best" in Bill O'Reilly, if there is such a thing.

When I'm feeling low - I crave old TV. Went through a complete season of WKRP in a couple of days. For some reason Mary Tyler Moore appeals to me lately as well. What do you prescribe?>> ^deathcow:

I only watch 3 or 4 hrs of TV a week maybe but I still like having it around (ie i'll pay for dish for 12 hrs a month) for a few murder shows to watch with the wife now and then. I wonder if you have overcompensated with a more destructive avenue.
Please, tell me about your mother.

It's D-Day from Animal House. The guy he's yelling at is named Wings Hauser (I swear). Also, Andy Travis from WKRP in Cincinnati is in this movie too. I have no life.

Actually, that quote is attributable to Arthur Carlson, manager of WKRP. Les Nessman was the nebbish newsman who always had a band-aid somewhere on his face.

You're right in one respect- Arthur was talking about Turkeys though. The quote above is attributed to Les Nessman just prior to his death from an attack by rabid flying squirrels in early 1992.
