Donald Duck as a Nazi

aaronfr says...

via Wikipedia:

Der Fuehrer's Face (originally titled Donald Duck in Nutzi Land) is a 1943 American animated propaganda short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released in 1943 by RKO Radio Pictures. The cartoon, which features Donald Duck in a nightmare setting working at a factory in Nazi Germany, was made in an effort to sell war bonds and is an example of American propaganda during World War II. The film was directed by Jack Kinney and written by Joe Grant and Dick Huemer from the original music by Oliver Wallace. The film is well known for Wallace's original song "Der Fuehrer's Face", which was actually released earlier by Spike Jones.

Der Fuehrer's Face won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 15th Academy Awards. It was the only Donald Duck film to receive the honor, although eight other films were also nominated. In 1994, it was voted Number 22 of "the 50 Greatest Cartoons" of all time by members of the animation field. However, because of the propagandistic nature of the short, and the depiction of Donald Duck as a Nazi (albeit a reluctant one), Disney kept the film out of general circulation after its original release. Its first home video release came in 2004 with the release of the third wave of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD sets.

I never specified who would make the money. But I think that is where we would find ourselves disagreeing.

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Money to be made? Is that why the nation relied upon war bonds to fund the effort?

In reply to this comment by EndAll:
Very late, but I saw this comment and felt the need to clarify.. FDR and his administration did know of the attacks beforehand - they were warned by neutral forces close to Japan who saw and knew of the impending attacks. FDR and his administration needed an excuse to get into the war, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. At the cost of human lives, yes, but oh well, right? There was money to be made in the war.

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
"The only way the Japanese could pull off such a victory at Pearl Harbor was if FDR and his administration withheld information" - Um, either that or they just didn't know it was going to happen. I hate these fucking conspiracy nutjobs.

And *documentaries.

McCain To Obama: Welcome Home, Troop Hater

NordlichReiter says...

First off our good old boy Obama shot himself in the foot pretty hard by not going to see those troops cameras or not.

Anecdote: We know why they didn't allow him to take cameras Because those injured troops are from Iraq and thats not good for war bonds.

We all knew that McCain would use this to his advantage, because its too hard to pass up a good left hook below the belt.

Obama made a tactical error on this one, he should have went to see the troops. To Obama it could be like taking his in laws to dinner, but sometimes he needs to do it.

American Dream from Tribute-American (1924)

Mayor of SLC Leads Anti-Bush Protest ("tremendous moral responsibility to stand up and oppose our president")

"But I'm going to let you all in on a little secret here. Going to war in Iraq was not about WMD's. It never was. It's about planting Democracy in the Middle East and ultimately being in a strategic position to confront Iran."
I missed that the first time around. Funny stuff. When Clinton was less-than-truthful about his zipper, it was perjury. What would you call obfuscation on a global scale? With thousands upon thousands dead?
If you think knocking over Iran's longtime foe and replacing it with sectarian chaos puts us in a "strategic position to confront Iran", then...well, let's just say you'd suck at Risk.
If this really is a global struggle on the level of WWII (as the President and the Sec. of Defense have started spinning it)...where's the draft? War bonds? Alliances with the rest of world?
Even the Republicans in Congress are running away from this colossally stupid "strategy". Guess they're Bush-bashers and hate America first, too - eh?
