How not to scam someone for insurance money

Some guy backed into, (more like "touched") my classic Mustang in a parking lot. It wasn't in all that great of shape (pre-restoration) at the time, but I spent the rest of the afternoon going through videotape from different stores. Figured out who it was, got a sweet shot of him hitting it in one camera, getting out and looking, then driving off. Another camera got his plate number. Spent months making sure he got screwed over by insurance and police..

Someone accidentally bumped our flower bucket at the end of our drive. Left a handwritten note on our door with their phone number and an offer of restitution. We didn't bother with it since it's just a cheap bucket but it was a very sweet thing. I almost like it better a little bit crushed.

Last year someone scraped the tailgate on my truck (much better shape than the Mustang, btw). Way more damage, monetarily. They left their contact info and a fairly heartfelt apology. I was about to have the whole truck painted (colour change) so I just tossed the note.

MSNBC Analyses Police Assault On "Occupy Wall St." Protester

Martin Luther King managed to create protests and a movement that DIDN'T get in people's faces or disrupting the business of innocent bystanders who have nothing to do with what you're protesting. He did it with a positive, uplifting, inspirational message that people of good sense could not help but agree with. These yahoos are doing the exact opposite. They couldn't be driving people AWAY from their cause any better if they were trying.

wrong wrong WRONG!
martin luther king jr knew full well the only way a peaceful protest would be effective was by interfering with business.
any protest that was even moderately successful interfered with business and the everyday machinery of government.
now we have "free speech zones"(see:RNC 2008 st paul MN) which are many times far distances from the very thing being protested.....how convenient.
this is where the protesters can be marginalized and ignored but get in the way of everyday business and NOW you will get noticed.
and the government will send its goons in to strong arm and intimidate because the business class scream bloody murder.
there will be arrests.
there will be macings.
there will be violence and yes, even sometimes murders.
all of which can now be clandestinely videotaped from a phone exposing the strong arm tactics of the government all in the name of "keeping the peace".

this aint rocket science.it is effective and it works.
your obedient slave solution just leaves the protester flaccid and ineffective.
you have the RIGHT of redress.
you have the RIGHT to assemble.
and the police are within their powers to cite or detain you for civil disobedience.
they are NOT within their powers to:maim, torture, brutalize and disregard the laws in which they were sworn to uphold.
this is about challenging power and authority and the only way to do that properly is to disrupt the machinations of power and authority.

I saw you downvoted my comment about torturing your kid and then videotaping it....

I didn't want to be a complete downer, so I didn't say this originally, but my father did this to me when I was growing up. I have the pictures to prove it.

There are a lot of reasons for this, but I now have pretty serious trust issues that I trace back in part to that "humor."

It's pretty awful to be feeling happy and secure and then someone you trust makes you cry. And then laughs about it. And records it. Fucks you up, man, I'm telling you from experience.

I know it isn't much fun to hear about the dark side of "pranks" -- but leave the babies and the little kids out of it. That's all I am saying.

I hate these kind of self-righteous douchewagons videotaping everything thinking they're being vigilant warriors in defense of democracy. They're just being a stick in the mud to be a dick just for the sake of being a dick. Annoying.

Also I feel like they arrested Jenna Fischer, judging by her voice.

Mother molested by TSA as she screams for help

zombieater says...

From the TSA website (http://blog.tsa.gov/2009/03/can-i-take-photos-at-checkpoint-and.html):

"We don’t prohibit public, passengers or press from photographing, videotaping, or filming at screening locations. You can take pictures at our checkpoints as long as you’re not interfering with the screening process or slowing things down. We also ask that you do not film or take pictures of our monitors."

Unless they're referring to that last part, I don't see what the problem was for him to be filming at an airport checkpoint because he was not "interfering with the screening process or slowing things down."

That is beyond unbelievable. I mean, I am utterly speechless. I find my mind just ejecting what I just saw and heard, virtually unable to accept what its been asked to process.

That was nothing short of wanton murder - VIDEOTAPED no less, and the guy walks? If that wasn't a crime, we are all IN DEEP SHIT.

Holy fuck.

It took him a while, but he did claim responsibility for the Sept. 11 attacks. Not just that al-Qaeda did it, but that he personally recruited the hijackers.

i'd suggest that the audio confession tape is as curious as the likely fake videotape confession. could be wrong of course. but lets look at the rather impractical nature of both recruiting, training, and running an urban airport operation from the hills of afghanistan.
Note that the tape surfaces on the eve of an election.

2nd, rather trite reasons for the 9-11 attack are given. a fairly large red flag. as to why the operation was carried out in the first place, it was unlikely anything but an operation designed to create a predictable response. A terrorist operation cannot defeat the U.S. militarily. However, history is full of empire's that crumbled partly as a result of military over-extension, and the election of bush and his cabinet of warhawks presented an incredible opportunity to goad the U.S. into stretching itself thin. Which it did, and continues to do. Basic Sun Tzu: entice your enemy into an un-winnable battle.

or fuck me, maybe i'm just crazy. maybe i'm just overly suspicious because we never get the straight story from this government: i'm pretty sure we dropped nukes on japanin WWII because of the soviet threat, that Vietnam had nothing to do with democracy and everything to do with markets/labor/raw materials, that Oswald wasn't the only Kennedy shooter and he was killed to keep him quiet, that Iraq was about oil, and that we sure as hell haven't been in Afghanistan for 10 years because of one guy.

CNN Says You Are Mentally Ill If You Doubt Osama's Death

NetRunner says...

>> ^Crosswords:

Again, like the birther issue, for Bin Laden to still be alive would require a massive conspiracy in which all feuding parties agree to participate in. The US would have to be involved, Bin Laden's wife, Pakistan and Al Qaeda. Conspiracy theories ask us to be suspicious of small oddities or coincidences, but we're supposed to swallow that two factions that have killed each other by the thousands are actually BFFs that are trying to get you to pay an extra dollar a gallon every-time you fill up at the pump.

Exactly. Nobody is required to have some sort of blind trust in Obama or the US government, you simply need to believe that the US really is at war with Al Qaeda.

There's no advantage for Obama in lying about a thing like this. Hell, there's a huge risk in saying anything about it if you're less than 99.9% sure you're right. If you're wrong (or lie about it), Osama bin Laden can pretty easily prove he's still alive by making a videotape where he holds up a post May 1st newspaper, and destroy the US's reputation without leaving his own back yard.
