Prove Apple wrong about data recovery and get banned

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

As some of you may know I'm an Apple Fanboy so take this with a grain of salt.

-- was she advertising her services on the Apple Support forums? I can see where that would get you banned.
-- the responses she received on the forum were from other users - not official statements
-- for several years now data on iPhones has been encrypted with the secure enclave. Even Apple can't unencrypt. Depending on the type of damage, it could be very difficult and sometimes impossible to retrieve the data.

With those bits out of the way - I do support right to repair, and I don't like Apple's stance on this type of stuff. I recognise that Apple isn't the company I loved from the 80s - but I still enjoy their products.

Straight under the skin. Straight, I say!

1. If you want to borrow MY crayons, then yes, I AM the boss of you. How is that even in question? They're my crayons, so I set the rules. You will not bear down, or I will withdraw my generosity. At the very least. Don't like it? Don't make requests.

2. Do not smash a toilet in a dog's face, just to get attention. The dog could have been blinded or otherwise injured, inconsiderate clumsy fool.

3. Refrain from using a sensationalist iPhone smear/repair video as a soapbox to promote sexist notions. Twice.

4. Don't expect a company to support cases of user error. Especially huge companies. It's just not possible. Devote energy to precaution and research rather than blame-shifting.

Grooveless metal engineering

bremnet says...

No, it's not EDM. It's machined. We produce a variety of cylinder / piston pairs, some with keyed anti rotation or beveled flanges to prevent pull through. The achievement of a visually seamless interface between two parts is certainly not trivial, but with care and the proper sequence of machining steps (guess which face you mill last? right - the one the user sees as seamless) you can do this on good quality CNC's with the right cutters. EDM'ing the complex curved shapes that truly mate across the surface on the early parts shown in the video is very (prohibitively) difficult, as you have to rely on ram EDM which is plain nasty.

It's a type of electro discharge machining. It has been around for a while but it's so damn satisfying!

Retired eng builds transforming, off-grid, stealth campervan

I have been following the campervan trend for some time and I was really impressed with his setup. You might want to check out https://www.youtube.com/user/kirstendirksen/about where this came from. One of my favorite YouTube accounts

That's fucking amazing. I bet there's a real niche market for some company to knock off a few of these - he put the plans online, so a ton of the work is done already.

I've always liked the idea of tiny houses, and this is even better since it's mobile and stealth.

Edit: the above was posted about 1/2 way through watching this. I can't even tell you how many times I thought "damn that's smart" during the video. Every single little touch is thought out perfectly. The airflow venting in particular struck me as an elegant, simple solution to a problem I wasn't even aware existed.

Interesting, so her being a promiscuous IV drug user didn't make him think twice? There are a lot of diseases that condoms don't protect against....hepatitis sucks, so does aids.

I've wondered about this. If a person wants to have sloppy drunk sex and gives consent before getting drunk, and you have drunk sex with them, is there a crime? My understanding is there is no loophole in the law and that would technically be rape, but I'm not at all certain. Anybody?

Can This Change Everything for DJs

kir_mokum says...

it offers nothing new to a DJ's workflow while replacing one failure point with 2 new ones (battery and proprietary RF) and adds another stupid little box that's definitely going to cause problems during setup. DVSs are already a pain in the ass, have compromised sound quality, have latency issues, fail all the time (both user error and software/hardware errors) which is one of the many reasons why almost no touring DJs outside the turntablism/party rock world use them anymore. 99.9% of headliners and locals are USB/SD card and CDJ2000s.

the rane 12 is a much more robust and professional product that fills the same gap as this toy. also, i swear i saw this getting hyped around 5 years ago.
