Usain Bolt Stops Interview for the American National Anthem

Blunder at the Olympics After Serena Williams Wins Gold

Does anyone stop to think why the hell are we staring at flags like they're amazingly important and significant. I'm beginning to feel abnormal seeing the number of wide-eyed flag-waving Brits on the tv. They really buy into this nationalistic crap.

Look, you can go the pessimistic route and say that the games are just the Colosseum all over again, placating the masses by entertaining them with a grand spectacle.

OR, you could enjoy it and see it as encouraging some pride in achievement, hopefully showing some good sportsmanship (almost every games there's some great example of someone being a great sport over winning), and getting kids excited about sport. Considering obesity these days, anything that gets kids excited about participating in sports is a good thing.

My kids have been running race after race after race around our house during these games as the eldest is obsessed with Usain Bolt. There's also a lot of basketball being played as the Australian basketball teams are doing well. And the kids are also going extra hard in their swimming lessons the last two weeks.

So lighten up a bit, let yourself get carried away with the moment. I for one have been getting almost tearing over OTHER country's victories, and our competitors close victories moreso than wins by my country (maybe because Australia has had ONE gold only so far... amazing!)...

You can bemoan how much money goes into training these athletes, but I'd take money being spent having people compete in games and at peak physical fitness any day over it being spent on military spending.

No, I watched it and then read some reactions and my gut reaction was to defend the athlete. Then when I came back I was a bit adamant because I had sort of mixed the events in this video with that of the Usain Bolt video (where a flower girl stands in his lane like 20 metres past the finish line, and he almost bowls her over) I'm still mostly on the side of the athlete in this video, except now I admit it was kinda jerky to take out his frustration on the mascot, but I still feel like a runner's lane belongs to him and that the mascot being so close to the finish is crass/undesirable (I realize pushing the mascot is also crass/undesirable).

Just watched it again and maybe I was confusing this with the Usain Bolt video where the girl runs up to him with flowers as he's finishing a race. On second viewing this was a little jerky.

This is like the video of the tennis guys having to watch some corporate idiot talk for ten minutes before they could sit down after playing four or five sets. The guy has just run 3000M as fast as he can.... the race hasn't been over for TEN SECONDS you can't let him catch his breath, maybe experience the moment and store a memory? Maybe let things proceed with some dignity? No, you have to get your branding on screen at his expense immediately. Fuck that mascot, fuck her gift basket, fuck her employers and fuck the corporate PR/marketing whores who shove "branding" and "identity" down our throats incessantly. Fuck!

Yeah... lets ignore the fact that he walked 20 yards RIGHT to her... didn't have to go anywhere near her if he didn't want to.

TEDxTeen - Jacob Barnett: Forget What You Know

messenger says...

What works for geniuses won't necessarily work for everyone else. Formal education was apparently limiting for Newton, Einstein and Barnett, but for the rest of us, it's massively beneficial. It's like Usain Bolt telling an old granny to leave her cane at home because he used to carry one in the 100m dash, and when he got rid of it, his time improved.

Jacoby Ford ran a 4.28, which ties him for 5th best 40 time since 1999, when electronic timing was instituted.

His personal best 100m time is 10.01. The current world record time is held by Usain Bolt at 9.58.>> ^Yogi:

In reply to this comment by demon_ix:Pointless masturbation was your expression. I'm not against CGI in general, I'm just saying in this particular video, using CGI would make a completely unremarkable video, while using Lego blocks made a unique and awesome video.

Why? The effects of the video are cool enough regardless of being constructed of lego. If someone made this video with CG, with say like 200 hrs of hard work, you'd say it was worthless? WTF is wrong with you? Let see you make a video this cool with CG.

I can and have. I say that to me it doesn't matter if any records were broken in the production of the video, since that's not how I measure if the video is good or not. You keep hanging on to the tiny technicalities and thus miss the entire point of what I'm trying to say.

No, the whole point of what you're trying to say is that you "feel" it is important to make this with Lego. Well, guess what buddy, what you "feel" doesn't mean very much. You need to support it with reasoning. You'd make a terrible critic if all you can say is that you "feel" something is right.

For the last time. The car analogy was simply to illustrate how using a shortcut would invalidate the entire endeavor.

And for the last time, it was a shitty analogy. It doesn't work. I've repeatedly stated why your analogy doesn't work, and you've repeatedly failed to address my critism. If you're just going to conveniently ignore questions that you can't answer, what is the point of me talking to you? I might as well be talking to a stubborn 12 year old.

The sift may not care about regulation blocks, or other made up rules that you use to define athletics for yourself, but there are rules to this here siftage. While I don't consider myself a part of the Digg community, and thus don't care one bit what they vote up or down, I do consider myself myself to be a part of this community, and thus care about what gets sifted up or not.

Made up rules that I use to define athletics for myself? You mean the sport of sprinting as defined by the International Olympic Committee that the whole world recognizes? Hey, basketball must be some silly made up rules that I personal use to define athletics right?

And You must be deluded if you're comparing the sift to the IOC. This is worse than your Usain Bolt analogy. The sift is a tiny slice of the internet, and the members get to choose what videos get shown on the sift. It's a community forum where people gather to show and tell the cool things they found on the net. And just like any other public forum or gathering, there are rules, but that hardly makes it the same as the regulatory body of a sport. The authors of the videos themselves don't even have to know or care about the sift, and the sift in turn, have no power over them. You must be far deep in denial or really desperate if you're grasping at such tenous strings to mend your broken analogy.
