This is the reason why he needs so much attention. But, it never fills that void.

That was a good description of why that form of argument is successful, but the proposed solution seems unsatisfying. I mean, if you just shut down all contrary views by deleting the posts, banning the posters or ignoring them, it makes it seem like you're just trying to build a comfortable echo chamber. I feel like you've got to preserve the willingness to consider that you might be wrong, even when confronted with trolls.

Mr. Plinckett is right as usual. I watched it in IMAX 3D yesterday, but didn't feel immersed into the story all that much. While watching it I couldn't help but think that a panel of Disney marketing geniuses meticulously thought out what we wanted to see, to guess our expectations, more than the brain child of someone with a vision, with a true story to tell. The girl-that-every-girl-wants-to-be with great athletic prowess and wit as the main character to try and get women to go and see it. The two popular Chinese actors were obviously there to appeal to the ever more important Chinese market. Nostalgic re-enactment (or pre-enactment?) of the ROTJ final battle. Darth Vader! Tarkin! The Death Star! There's someone and/or something for everybody in this movie. Maximum appeal to go and see it.

I think all characters did have potential, but there wasn't any time for them to really come alive, as we were introduced to too many locations and too many people. On the topic of coming alive, resurrected Peter Cushing was very clearly stuck deep into uncanny valley, and watching him was a little... morbid I think.

Like with the Force Awakens, I left the cinema not really unsatisfied, but not really happy either. Just kind of... okay. That was something all pre-Disney SW films did way better for me.

The metal snowflake is highly unsatisfying, as it ended just a second too early. And what was with that weird melty chair and the sphere? That was just confusing.

As much as we would like those who pass judgement on us to be intelligent, the notion that this test-range is based on, is stable from a governing perspective.

Take the emotion out (concerns of ones personal safety/punishment) and review the situation again.

i.e. Businesses are financially driven and therefore do not hire people that are over educated for a role, as they do tend to feel unsatisfied and eventually will leave for a reason that falls within a bell curve (knowing they can do more). This sensibility is in direct relation to sustainability. If as a standard they kept hiring people unnecessarily skillful who will likely get bored and also know they could do something more intelligent/challenging/satisfying, they would blow all their money and go out of business.

Would you rather have,
1. No service (or and including, a perpetually collapsing service that exists only by way of endless cash injections that drains a countries budget), or
2. A relatively ok service that is trained to follow a fairly simple set of guidelines, with a dispute system (courts) to back up any non-time sensitive poor decisions?

There's no justifiable value to a required service if it's not sustainable.

They will still hire intelligent people, but for the right roles, which will be with different testing criteria. Not the more common base-level operator (widespread foot soldier) roles.

I agree, film needs visual cues, but making her vision work like a touch screen is a HORRIBLE device for that....at least to me.

I just hate movies that give the impression that they thought up some inventive method to make their insanity make sense, then crap out at the end and say "it was a dream, no explanation needed". That's simply poor writing and lack of imagination to me. (I must say it does one positive thing for me, it leaves the end a tragedy after building to a 'win' for the hero....but in an incredibly cheap and unsatisfying way).
Far better for me is how they did it in "Wages of Fear" (my favorite movie, from the 50's) where the hard fought survival and triumph can be ruined by a moment of inattentive joy.

The animation was pretty, but I'm all about storytelling, and the content wasn't even good for high school. Right from the beginning, what was the point of showing the showman as unable to get an audience? This had no effect later on, but it's half the show. Why weren't people impressed to begin with? Doesn't make sense. Why were they crying when he left? He didn't touch their hearts or improve their lives; he gave them things.

That's all meh. What really irked me was there's all sorts of clichéed assumptions made all the way through: all small dogs want to be big and/or male owners of small dogs want big dogs; children are unsatisfied merely imagining that sticks are airplanes; all women want to be big blonde princesses or to have fancy handbags, and all leaders want giant monuments built for them. Puh-leeze. It was less Needful Things than playing on tired stereotypes.

I especially didn't like the implication in the end that old bald people with bad backs are less trustworthy. I understand "ugly/old/bald" has been a common shorthand for "bad person" when there isn't enough time to develop a character properly, but inviting the audience to judge people based on their appearance is something I expect not to see in a modern production.
