Top Gear is absolutely brilliant. It just is. I couldn't stand to be around any of the presenters for more than a couple of minutes in real life but somehow they have found an incredible combination that works ridiculously well.

It is the infantilizing of the woman that bothers me. The guy doesn't sound like a college cheerleader, with coy body language.

I actually get a bit nauseous when women do this, fakily. When it is genuine, at least if I perceive it to be genuine, I have no problem. It is the playing into that saccharine stereotype that gags me.

That's the contrived bit. Contrived enthusiasm and energy, very common in these sorts of shows particularly when they have multiple presenters each of which need to have a "personality". I blame Top Gear :

Oh She's fucking insane. On Top Gear she was a whole lotta fun. I'd love to hang out with her for a night, but she it would be a pain after awhile.

I've seen a good few of these, and thought I understood the scale, but I got such a serious "I can see my house from here" moment (3:10, mid-to-far left, in case you wonder) that re-re-re-re-ignited my astonishment at humanity's achievements, that I was literally left speechless.

James May said it better: "It's slightly humbling" or, more descriptively, "oh, god, it's... sorry, I'm slightly... woah... it's amazing".
