I can see where you're coming from. We have to be wary of anyone who wants to put their ideas into our heads.

However, I still think there's an obvious difference between the quality of message coming from the various talking heads.

I am not sure? What else is there to say about a choice to use or to not use a literary device when one feels so inclined? I offer a rebuttal to the pitchfork and torch crowd back on that lame news post (#9824735) which ,trumpeting the obvious and restating it ad-infinitum for what reasons beyond tree-pissing and clique-stroking, I would like to be able to stomach.

The enemy is not a dissenting observation or opinion. The enemy is anyone who offers such fare as something that is effectual, enlightening, or that nourishes the soul.
News. The pathetic drug of affordable convenience and control.

Speaking of yourself in the third person... what else is there to say?

Rachel Maddow: Why Fox News Isn't News

Yeah I some how doubt that the protagonist being a chick that kicks ass has anything to do with the fact that the game is shit: Portal was amazing.

Truckchase, if you only want to spend 12 hours plus behind a man ( in third person ) than you can shop selectively in order to fulfill that need. but dont spout non-sense, please.

Pit Bull Viciously Attacks News Anchor With Love and Slobber

budzos says...

Fuck pitbulls, and FUCK YOU pitbull owners. Go pursue an inane cause that doesn't require everyone around you to accept the premise that "don't worry, this bomb I bring everywhere won't go off while your kids are around. I'm a responsible bomb owner. Just don't make any sudden movements or anything that could potentially be taken as a threat, around my totally harmless bomb, or otherwise it might harmlessly rip your fucking face off."

The first time I let my dog within biting distance of a friend's Pit, she got bitten really hard, even though the owners were my friends, the dog knew me, and everyone was gathered around urging the Pit to be calm as we introduced the dogs. No warning, their Pit just clamped on the fucking neck of my black lab. If not for an instantaneous and well-placed kick in the side of the face from the Pit's owner, my dog's jugular probably would have been ripped in two. I imagined how I would feel if it had been my niece or nephews, and came to this conclusion: FUCK PITBULLS.... just because they're licking your face one moment doesn't mean they're not going to eat it off you the first fuckign excuse you give them.

The other weak-ass part of Pit owners' argument is this: When a black lab or even a german shephard decides to bite a person, a second person of reasonable strength can rescue that first person from the dog (if the first person can't rescue themselves). This is not really the case with Pits, unless the third person is willing to put themselves at risk (by trying to "wheelbarrow" the Pit for instance), or become seriously violent and murderous in attacking the dog (by picking up a brick and bludgeoning it in the fucking skull).

Have you seen Trine?

It's an absolutely gorgeous puzzle platformer with heavy emphasis on physics that was recently released to rave reviews. I finished it a couple of days ago - and loved it, loved it, loved it Highly recommended.

I've long thought that with the advances in computer software/hardware/etc. that they should make an old platformer style game (which remains a very playable and entertaining game style) with berserk graphics quality.

Sure, there's been some really great 3D FPSs and third person person games made... but with the reduced requirement on processing for that depth dimension, imagine the possible quality of a sidescrollers we might've seen!

I'm very glad to finally be seeing some of these emerge with something approaching mainstream appeal. I really hope this genre makes a very solid comeback and that games can be judged by more than just their polygon counts.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Footage

Agree with Sarzy, I am yet to be convinced this is the actual game running. It just seems a step above what we're used to in third-person games. It would be awesome if it was.

Manifesting the Mind: Sneak Preview

Trancecoach says...

^I think you've got it backwards, cybrbeast. Regardless of the sophistication of the instruments used, or the elaborateness of the mathematical permutations, science will never penetrate the primacy of perception or adequately explain the phenomenon of experience without severe distortions, deletions, and generalizations which misappropriate the instances of perception as a complete gestalt. You are correct that, from a scientific point of view, these theories "make little sense," but this is due to an inadequacy of science, not of the theories themselves. Inasfar as science perpetually attempts to causally interpret the phenomena of experience as third-person adumbrations, it will limit itself to logical opacity, falling short of the lived first-person perspectives which constitute the living human predicates. When you eat a peach, you need not take measurements or abstract experimental conditions into account prior to biting into it in order to gain an appreciation or epistemological experience of the fruit. Rather, there is a knowingness, in which your perception remains primary to any "objective" cognition, from which I believe psychedelic insights/intuitions seem to avail to its aspirant. In this way, these theories are hidden to the naive subject, only to become apparent as obvious once the authentic experience has been undergone.

If only I had a gun

StukaFox says...

The person you're most likely to kill with your own gun: yourself.

The second person you're most likely to kill: a member of your own family.

The third person you're most likely to kill: a perfect stranger who was of no threat to you.

The single biggest predicate for dying from gun violence: owning a gun.

Chipotle Challenge - 4 burritos in 25 minutes, run a mile

>> ^maatc:
This reminds me of something called "Kastenrennen" (crate race) in my hometown of Hamburg.
Two guys have to carry a full 24 bottle crate of beer a distance of 7.4 kilometers around a lake (4.6 Miles) and it has to be empty when they cross the finish line.
There are different tactics: Some teams sit down and empty the case at the start, which means they have to run four and a half miles drunk, and others drink it in front of the finish line, which means you have to carry a heavy crate around the track...
Fastest team gets a crate of beer from all the other losing teams. You also have to bring a third person that functions as a referee for another team, making sure they don´t pour out the beer...

Now THAT would be a video to see!

Zero Coordination: The n00b effect

Some of you are missing the point. He's not insulting games that have stories. He's insulting games that focus on story or cinematic values at the expense of gameplay (which is a growing trend). The fact is that games are getting dumber and less challenging by the second. The platforming in Assassin's Creed consisted of holding down one button. The platforming, puzzles and combat in the new Prince of Persia were all dumbed down and streamlined compared to the games in the Sands of Time trilogy. Genres with steep learning curves have been or are being phased out. Western RPGs and survival horror games are now more like action games. Shooters now have regenerating health, third-person cover systems, aim assist, trajectory indicators, invincible squadmates, etc.
The sad reality is that developers are focusing on accessibility over depth, challenge and longevity. Games are becoming increasingly automated and decreasingly interactive for the sake of "cinematic immersion." Anyone who's been playing games for a while (particularly on the PC) can see the downward spiral that gaming has taken.
