Neil deGrasse Tyson on genetically modified food
Hello Chaos Engine.
It's not 'either or...'
It's not inevitable either.
Nor is it too useful or too profitable. (quite the opposite. Non GMO supermarkets are raking it in on both sides of the Atlantic)
It's an agenda than has been allowed to flourish, or massively sponsored by corporate interest (the huge campaign against GMO labels for example).
It can also be stopped.
Make up your fucking mind. Do you want it regulated or not?
Because I can tell you what's not going to happen and that's getting it banned. It's too useful and too profitable. I think you're the one living in lala-land

"Father of Inflation" Professor SURPRISED w/ New Discovery
Agreed. This article on the Atlantic goes into the background of the video itself. The descriptions of the couple's reactions are great. Really charming.

Ornery lil' bugga.
Oh, and...
"Lionfish are not native to the Atlantic Ocean. The venomous, fast reproducing fish are aggressive eaters and will consume anything and everything, gorging so much they are actually getting liver disease. With no known predators -- except human beings -- they can wipe out 90% of a reef." -http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/18/tech/innovation/lionfish-infestation-atlantic-linendoll/
Ban Bossy — Change the Story
I thought this was another 4chan mass-troll when i first heard of it. Perhaps it will be this year's "Kony 2012." I've never heard anyone called bossy that wasn't striding around demanding things, telling people what they should be doing without consideration for the situation, etc. I've never heard anyone called a leader that wasn't a problem-solver with a good ability to express themselves. Part of me wants to believe this is some sort of inter-Atlantic difference because i've been so isolated from any evidence of it being a problem.
I've got three points and i'll try to make them succinct. If anyone wants to pull me up on them, i'll go further.
1. The word bossy is not inherently sexist. Sometimes people are bossy. Calling a girl bossy doesn't make you sexist. This campaign can make villains out of people in the same way that a girl getting called bossy can unfairly stereotype a strong willed woman. At best it trades one form of unfairness for another.
2. Human beings come in two flavours. One of them is man, another is woman. Man and woman are different. They will never in the foreseeable future be equal in all things, and it is not sexist a) to say that or b) for that to be the norm. This is the way of the animal kingdom - we see it in animals, and we are animals. Because of our different chemical composition, we will have a natural role diversity that is is absolutely unavoidable and has nothing to do with fairness. In lieu of this, any study that says "gender A is less represented in field B because sexism," has a hell of a lot of factors to take into account, some of which i'm not even sure can be accounted for. I am in no way stating that all of one particular gender are better than all of the other gender at any given thing; i am saying that on average, testosterone and oestrogen will soften or harden the heart in different ways (to simplify the argument) which will lead on average to gender weighting. It is going to take a lot more than a few poems and forceful statements to convince me. Where are the sources and the studies, and what authority do they have? Furthermore where are the studies about word-prohibition in the grand scheme of solving problems? i.e. How do we know this is a good idea even if there is a problem?
3. "Banning" a word empowers that word for those who would use it for harm. Or people will find a new way of expressing the same idea. In Britain people thought that UKIP (*spit*) should be kept off TV because giving them political air-time legitimised them. In actual fact, the better idea (and eventual decision) was to put them on TV and allow them to make idiots of themselves with their inherent stupidity. I suggest a similar thing is true of banning the word bossy. Let it be said, and make it abundantly clear how wrong it is when it gets said.
This was a really bad idea that stems from a great intention. And for the record, i love bossy girls - it would benefit me to see more empowered woman in the world. It's not easy finding them.
Container ship OOCL Belgium taking 40 degree roll
I encountered many bad storms crossing the Atlantic on the QE2. The worst was so bad that, stupidly venturing to the stern, my band mate and I witnessed the ship surfing on a wave which was, at least, 10 feet above the ship. We listed severely many times, and it was all jolly good fun until one list which saw the piano come out of its metal securing feet, and the roulette tables flying against the wall. But she didn't come back and kept on listing to port - strange as it seems, all I could think of was the "Poseidon adventure." and how I would orientate when she flipped over. The laughter had stopped and we just looked at each other waiting, and hoping, that she would right herself. Seriously, we were scared to death. The next day I passed the Captain and said; "I honestly didn't think the old girl was going to recover from that list." He didn't smile, and in the typical British manner replied; "Actually, neither did I."

"It follows allegations they charged the government for tagging people who were either dead or in jail."
So, private companies in charge of electronic tagging were engaged in highly unethical behaviour. Who could it be, who could it be... who would have the standing to get these kinds of contracts, while being ruthless enough to pull up such a fraudulent scheme? Oh, I know: fucking Serco and G4S again.
If you ever decide to put these wankers, including Atos, on a barge, tug it into the middle of the northern Atlantic and leave it there, give us a call. I'd row the distance if it meant the end of those bastions of inhumanity.
Moyers | Yves Smith and Dean Baker on the TPP
The Trans-Atlantic equivalent, TTIP, is just as protected from public scrutiny as the TPP, by the way. Every once in a while, the MSM picks it up for a split-second, when there's nothing to report in the world of celebrities, but that's basically it.
That said, here's George Monbiot's take on the TTIP: This transatlantic trade deal is a full-frontal assault on democracy.
Honest Trailers - Pacific Rim
Pretty much in line with Red Letter Media / Half In The Bag's review: "It's like a really really REALLY well made Asylum movie".
(Incidentally, Asylum of course made their own version, Atlantic Rim.)

Oh right. The naturally chilled (North Atlantic at 48 degrees Farenheit) feature is quite civilized---must be nice!
Jeremy Clarkson and Gordon Ramsay cooking lobster
As an Atlantic Canadian, I can say I actually winced when he threw that lobster into what-could-have-been unsalted water.
For good lobster you need kosher salt.
For best lobster, you cook it in sea water. Over an open driftwood fire. On a cobblestone beach. With clams steaming open on hot rocks next to the fire.
*cue Homer hungry sound effect.
He's missing the key ingredient! SALT, and lots of it.

So glad to hear this. Cheers ole cum! I just recently missed a show where they preformed along with 3 other but kinda similar bands for $7 in Norfolk VA. The promoter seen that on the book of faces that said that I probably could not make it. He offered to foot the bill for the person who would travel with me to see them. I still had no takers. Mind you that when I seen them a few years ago, The same promoter was at this dive bar in Virginia Beach VA. When we walked into the place he asked us who we were there to see and my friend said "My friend wants me to see Ceremony." The dude said that they were about to hit the stage(late but perfect timing.) He then ask us where we were for and my friend said "Baltimore MD." It was a 5 hour trip man(I really love this band). The dude said "Whoa! You deserve a beer!" and bought us a pitcher of suds. This is a really cool click of musicians in the Mid Atlantic states. You need to clone yourself so I can take you to super cheap but fucking awesome shows.
Thanks man!
I really like the song you sent me.
