I always liked this movie. A little cheesy at parts but definitely watchable.

With Terry Jones at the helm some cheese is inevitable, even welcome. My favorite bit was the sinking island, refusing to believe even though they were up to their necks in it. I was actually looking for a clip of that, but couldn't find one that didn't include another 10 minutes of fottage.

Can we raise the queue limit, already? (Sift Talk Post)

CaptWillard says...

Raise the queue limit to 20? So what you're saying is that you don't want choggie to ever publish a video again? He publishes some of the more interesting stuff here, and I'd hate to see videos like his disappear. Sarzy's right; this place would become RonLOLcatSift.

Maybe you're just highballing with that number arvana, just so we can then "negotiate" a lower number that you really wanted in the first place. Fine, I'll play along. I say we lower the magic number to 2. Now let's negotiate a compromise by averaging those two numbers. That gives us 11. Deal?

Seriously, which one of these videos makes a greater contribution to the Sift: This one about life in the Roman empire, or this one about a machine gun briefcase? (Yes, they're both mine, only because I didn't want to drag anyone else's videos into this unwillingly.) Personally, I'm prouder of the Roman empire video, but that would never have made it under your proposed threshold. I think virtually all long videos would be a thing of the past as well.

However I do think cutting queue time would be a good start, but cutting it in half might be pretty drastic. I concede that it could work, but as others have suggested before maybe we should cut it down to 3 first before we try 2 day queues. And maybe a requeue limit might be good too, but I think we should try that only after a new queue time has been firmly established first. It's possible that I'm being too cautious, but I have feeling that if we adopted all three changes that you suggest at the same time there might be quite a few pissed sifters.

Bill O'Reilly cuts mic of retired Army Colonel Ann Wright

ashes2flames says...

It's a popular and maybe proper thing to hate O'Reilly and Fox News in general, but this clip doesn't show me anything except him directly asking her about the Iran / Britain situation and her taking ever moment of airtime to explain how America has done wrong and evade every question asked. He continues to let her rant off topic throughout the entire "interview" without ever getting anywhwere on the topic at hand. At the end you can hear the music start and you know he is coming up on a hard break soon .. he tries to end the interview but she just won't shut up. Eventually he cuts the mic and wraps it up for commercial because this is a "show" not a news broadcast. I think if people were to read this as a transcript not knowing who O'Reilly was .. opinions would be different.

Also I have to add .. the poster of this video said:

"A related I found recently by Terry Jones in the Guardian UK. and an actual video of the British Soldiers apologizing and explaining their "humiliating" conditions can be found here..."

I don't know what you don't understand here. But simply being filmed and broadcast as a prisoner is considered humiliating. And if you think the Iranian government let any video out that does not portray their behavior regarding these prisoners in the most perfect way than you are crazy. You have no idea what gun was held to the heads of these British soldiers to say their "apologies".

Terry Jones' Barbarians (Part 4) The End of the World

PostMortem says...

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Jones'_Barbarians

"Terry Jones' Barbarians is a 4-part TV documentary series first broadcast on BBC 2 in 2006, presented and written by Terry Jones, challenging the received Roman notion of the barbarian. It could be compared to his earlier series Terry Jones' Medieval Lives in that it questions aspects of history that everyone takes for granted."
