The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

EndAll says...

I just read this whole thread! And I realize now, that I'm not half as interesting as any of you! I'm 18 years old, 19 this May (yay! legal beer buying) and live in Toronto, Ontario. I love this city, and I work for it! I bake pizza in a park in the summertime, and I am a rink guard at an outdoor ice rink in the winter - suffice it to say, I love the outdoors. As much as I do, though, I also love being indoors - particularly in my basement, on my laptop, and on the Sift I stumbled across it accidentally a few weeks ago and haven't looked back since. I used to smoke copious amounts of marijuana, but recently have quit and am enjoying being able to use my brain to its full potential. When I'm not glued to the computer screen I like to doodle, kick a soccer ball around, read, or play with mein kitties. I've already met some very cool cats here, and look forward to meeting more! Cheers.

Stand Still Like the Humming Bird

callistan says...

I love hummingbirds, my parents have some bottlebrush shrubs outside their dining room window and they're always zooming around them in the summertime. They're remarkably aggressive when other hummingbirds are around.

dont wanna be the shmock or anything, but technically, "Summer time" should be mentioned with Gershwins play "Porgy and Bess" or however you write it. In that play, "summertime" was one of the songs.

Big fat update here, because I just saw all of the comments left after my last one. I'll keep this simple.

"Nevermind."

That's where this stands for me now.
I too liked the old choggie. I think he needs some injectible vitamin b12 to repair the nerve damage from all the N2O, but that's beside the point.
I had been talking with him outside of videosift since summertime and we had some good chats.
He asked me to help him get his account back and I told him I would try.
As I was trying, he basically yelled at me for having some kind of "good guy" campaign (which it never even approached) and I decided it was too much of a negative to interact with the guy any more.

Peace out

Northwest Passage melting, fast

drattus says...

Article I ran across recently got me thinking about this so I gathered a few details which might be interesting. First a few visuals.

Satellite imagery of the arctic ice sheets dated September 4 2001, September 4 2006, and the most recent at September 4 2007.

As you can see the ice sheets are melting, and fast. The Northwest passage which has been a legend of sorts for as long as we've known about the area is about to become very real, it's all but open now and will be soon. The estimates used to be a ice free summertime Arctic somewhere between 2070 and 2100, then 2050, now they are estimating as early as 2030. 23 years. Interesting thing seems to be that as it melts that in itself accelerates the melt, dark water absorbs heat the white ice used to reflect, 1/3 of it gone in the 30 years we've tracked it.

The Guardian, a British newspaper, did a short article on the subject which can be found here.

The estimates and more esoteric work have always been easier to argue or ignore but it's starting to take a pretty solid form which is hard to deny these days. Yes, the estimates are still subject to change but the problem is no longer one we can really deny. Only debate left seems to be what to do about it.

Ice Bird - lame 1970s sno-cone-ish toy

swampgirl says...

Ice Bird's back (my attempt failed) It's not lame though, there was a Snoopy snow cone maker too around that time (I owned that one). How hard is it to pour syrup over ice for instant summertime gratification? Do you know how many horrid confections came out of those Easy Bake ovens?
