What do you do for work ? (Talks Talk Post)

volumptuous says...

For most of my adult life I worked as a painter, color designer and art director for animated TV shows like Ren&Stimpy, Invader Zim, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Spongebob Squarepants. I switched careers and now I'm an Art Director for social video games and work my ass off for an enormous company that everyone hates.

"To get a delicious plate of Mr. and Mrs. Pipe's "hog jowls", Ren and Stimpy must make it past an angry baboon. Purposefully based on the first Yogi Bear cartoon."

The difference a laugh track makes

wormwood says...

The Simpsons has no laugh track. Amazing that nobody named it yet. I think it was the first US comedy in a long time not to use one. Maybe they got away with that because it's animated, though the Flintstones did have a laugh track. Similarly, other modern animated series don't use laugh tracks (American Dad, Family Guy, Ren and Stimpy, etc.).

Also MASH banned the laugh track from the operating room in a compromise between the show makers (who wanted no laugh track at all) and the network, who insisted on it for all other scenes.

The "Ripping Yarns" DVD set comes with an optional sound track with out laugh track. I thought I would prefer the pure version, but I must (grudgingly) admit that that show seems funnier with the laugh track. It has occurred to me that "Curb Your Enthusiasm" might actually seem funnier with a laugh track, but still I am glad they don't use one--more integrity.

I remember trying to eat a burrito on acid. I think I got a bite in until it turned into a glossy multi-colored Ren & Stimpy painting of all sorts of disgusting with non-existent flies swirling around it. There was a world of rice in there and it was not appetizing!

The Rise and Fall of LSD: Documentary on Acid

shagen454 says...

it is an amazing thing. an amazing thing I'll probably never take again - but I did get to see a youtube life-time timelapse video of myself when I looked in the mirror and my yard looked like mars until the fences and buildings started sinking into the ground and the bottom floor of my entire apartment building popped out like a desk drawer, it was like watching a storm coming in - the sound of the city around me wasn't a sound anymore but sort of this whispy buzzing feeling. For a while I thought I was just listening to some ambient loop which was the lively ambiance of the city blocks around me, it was really confusing. Then I tried to eat a burrito... which ended up being like one of those funny anti-lsd commercials from the 60's - it didn't talk to me it just looked so disgustingly beautiful that I could not even enjoy one of my favorite staples, haha! My burrito looked like it might if it were on the Ren & Stimpy show. I remember trying to read something on my computer screen but all I could see were THE's. Tens of THE's sticking out at me. If I ever do it again I'll make sure to bring pills for the later portion of the trip which sort of got on my nerves.

That being said, in my humble opinion everyone should be encouraged to muster up their positive energies and take the splurge into this strange world in your head at least once.
