Jerry Springer Evil kids

You mean Fox, OAN, or newsmax? They are the fake news machine, opinion channels that call themselves news until they have to back their baseless claims, then they're just Jerry Springer with no obligation whatsoever to deliver fact or truth....that's the definition of fake news. You just admitted that.

True, all right wing "news" is factless opinion, but when it's presented as news facts ARE needed. One America NEWS....faux NEWS, NEWSmax. They all pretend to be news until they're held to journalistic standards, ethics, and integrity....then they're entertainment talk shows, not news....with zero obligation to be truthful.
🤦‍♂️

Pretty fucking hilarious of you to denounce your information sources because you know they are factless after repeating their lies with certitude for a decade....and you continuing after admitting they aren't news and don't present facts is....what's stupider than "ludicrous"? What's more dishonest than "bold faced liar"? Ummm......only "Trumptard" comes to mind....nothing else is derogatory enough by far.

Bullshit Bob, most were tossed for lack of evidence. You're repeating more uninformed opinion, not facts. Some were tossed for lack of standing, but most for lack of merit, which means their claims were baseless, had no evidence, no proof. The administration was given dozens upon dozens of opportunities to present evidence and proof in court to save their cases, they NEVER presented a single verified fact about election fraud, nor have they presented ANY to the public. This could be because every single intentional vote fraud case since 2016 involved Republicans cheating, not Democrats.
They were mostly dismissed due to lack of fact and/or evidence...that's what lack of merit means. You're still listening to the opinion spouting liars you just denounced as factless opinion peddlers.

Bob, you just admitted right wing news, the only kind you believe, is all fake news/factless opinion, then you beg me to keep up the fake news narrative. Are you having a stroke?

Zero evidence, never stopped the fake news machine.

Besides They aren't "news" show they are "opinion" shows, no facts needed, right?

Cases were not tossed due to lack of evidence, but due to standing, or merit but not dismissed due to lack of facts.

Please keep up the fake news narrative.

Un-American

kir_mokum says...

i understand and agree that he is unamerican in the sense of the "american ideal" but outside looking in, he is a completely typical product of american culture. he's reality TV, fame for fame's sake, wealthy without working, a hustler, the ideal jerry springer guest, the ideal wrestling guest, the son of racist nepotism, performative altruism (and then defrauds his own charities), he pathologically cannot accept being wrong/defers all fault to anyone else ("whatever, i do what i want"), he's weaponized ignorance, he's "hilariously" rapey, he's illiterate, a proud philistine, he's vapid pageantry, he's a christian who know nothing of religion/spirituality, he's 4chan, he's 8chan, he's tacky style with complete lack of substance, he's the personification of "fake it 'till you make it". these are all lessons i've seen repeated ad nauseam from american TV, films, music, podcasts, youtube stars, etc. to the point where they're past cliché that they're now entrenched americana.

i know that isn't the typical american but that is the most typical american america has sold to itself and the rest of the world.

The Danish School Where Children Play With Knives

@Gratefulmom

Hey, if parents want to send their kids to a completely unregulated daycare where the "education" is having kids swing sticks around in the rain and -20 degree weather, that's their choice (though it sounds to me more like ancient Sparta than a modern Kindergarten).

As for me, on the other hand, I prefer my daughter get the scientifically proven lifelong benefits of a proper preschool education. See this book for an example of the scientific evidence I'm talking about.

All the science I've seen on kids playing outdoors (including that on outdoor kindergartens: see for example this article) shows that around 1-2 hours a day outside is enough to see significant results. My daughter gets at least that much in the park after kindergarten most days when the weather is nice, so I'm not so worried about her development.

Jar Jar Binks Sith Lord Theory

Emotionally manipulating commercial that I liked...

Lawdeedaw says...

No, capitalism is cynical and manipulative in general. It also promotes freedom in general, ie., the antithesis to community. Is it no wonder we bemoan the fact that kids are more into their ipads then the dinner table? But we promote that as entitled, and how dare someone tell you how to live. Etc., so forth and so on.

And btw, sleazier ads sell better than wholesome ads. So "they could have done it better" is actually only your opinion but makes very little economic sense. I used to say the same thing about Jerry Springer, then I looked at the dumbass audience that watches it...

JustSaying said:

So it's capitalism that makes grandpa manipulative and his children too wrapped up in their own daily lives to visit him?
The message this ad is sending is 'It's ok to fabricate drama to get your relatives' attention'. What the admakers want to communicate is that 'Edeka is a part of your home, your family life'. They're not really successful at it, the ad doesn't work as good as it could've. It would've been better if the children made grandpa believe that this year, again, they won't make it home for christmas but then, surpise, they show up anyways. With products bought at Edeka.
The loneliness of old age is a good theme for advertising but you have to get it right or you'll appear cynical and manipulative. Like grandpa.

Adam Ruins Everything: Polygraph Tests

Lawdeedaw says...

Influence is different than belief. People believe in God. People were influenced by many evil men. In this case it is the same. Lie detectors are "mystical" and "fun." Much in the same way Ouija boards are fun as when you are a kid. Yeah, a few take it to the next level, but again it is not "massive amounts of people."

And look at this. "You are not the father," followed by massive antics. "The lie detector determined that was a lie," followed by massive antics. Again, no one gives two shits about the test, they want to see the bullshit. Let me pose this (and answer it please,) do you think people would watch pop culture if it was bland just because it had a lie detector test? Of course not, because no one gives...two shits

In this regard I am actually insulting American intellect far more than if they believed in a pseudo science, lol. Those people are pathetic, just like Springer people.

And I can see the value--if it makes you happy by all means. I am just justifying why I downvoted it (for blowing up the numbers and shifting blame.)

Also, Adam even disagrees with you! Lol; he says at the end about police departments using it to obtain confessions and it not being real, and the police say "yeah we know that!" Ie., police use it as a tool of influence to scared people. What people do fear is the jury not caring that a detector is inadmissible, they fear it won't matter because perception is 9/10ths of the law.

I think you overestimate the knowledge base of the general public. I don't believe the average person (especially in America) knows that this device is completely without credibility.
So much so that it continues to have a giant influence in our legal system and popular culture (e.g. TV crime drama).
Even if this is something that has been debunked a couple decades ago doesn't mean the information has been properly distributed to the general public.
I still find value to a video like this because of it's nature to inform those who didn't know.
I'm only arguing against your initial point that this "should never have been made". The truth has to continually fight the lies.

Adam Ruins Everything: Polygraph Tests

Lawdeedaw says...

I agree with everything you said brycewi. And it would apply here too IF Adam was providing information that wasn't well known by nearly everyone today. Most people believe lie detectors are pseudo science. It is not even comparable to global warming, and even less than anti-vaccines (Or if this is somehow untrue, then Adam doesn't provide how truly well believed this phenomenon is as he prattles on.) So that is where we would vary significantly on, not that the service of providing debunking of something taken as true is important/unimportant.

Yes, some people believe it works. Others watch it on talk shows and such for entertainment and even some law enforcement use it for confessional purposes. We get that. But then again some Africans believe raping a virgin will cure AIDs...does that mean their country is a bunch of degenerates? No, because only a few do.

Adam goes off on this rant based on information in what, the 90s? When everyone had this unshakable faith in the lie detector? My family's entire life rested on one of these machines at one time, so I know. (It didn't turn out good, lets leave it at that.)

Further, we differentiate three "uses" of the lie detector.
1-Entertainment:
A-Nobody believes it works, just like nobody believes Jerry Springer or Wrestling isn't fake.
B-Lumping those people in with those who do believe is disingenuous at best, manipulative at worst.
2-Law Enforcement:
A-They really don't care as long as they obtain guilty confessions. In other words, they already know (think) they have the bad guy and use it as an interrogation techniques.
B-You can argue with this practice as shady and deceptive (ironic isn't it?) but we shouldn't confuse belief with reliance.
3-Excluding the examples above, since they DON'T believe, those in the ultra fringe don't constitute "widely accepted."

brycewi19 said:

I disagree. Debunking something that is widely accepted as true is an important thing to learn.
Of course, funny is completely subjective.
But I believe that this video does a public service, honestly, in a palatable way.

Open Letter to Ellen Degeneres: Don't Promote A Psychic

HenningKO says...

It's such a cheap move, to bring on a psychic... it makes her look like Montel or Ricki or Springer or any number of other fluffy wastes-of-daytime. Ellen should be above it. Good move, invoking the memory of Carson.

Make people despise you: Judge children by their names

eric3579 says...

I couldn't get through the whole thing but this reminds me of Jerry Springer or other day time American crap TV. At least that's the type of audience it attracts. The only reason you would have someone like this on is for ratings. It's surely not for an informative interesting debate. Absolute garbage TV. IMO

An Impressive Illusionist Makes His Debut on Ellen

Trancecoach jokingly says...

Not to cast any dispersions on what you have to say about Ellen (not knowing much about her, she always seems pretty genuine and funny), but let's be clear:

Jerry Springer ended his shows with "Take care of yourselves, and each other." Wouldn't you say he's also a "class act?"

Buck said:

Ellen is one of the best shows on TV. She gives to people, cares about animals and is one of the nicest people I have ever seen. She always ends her show with "be kind to one another". Class act.
