1965...If I Were the Devil - by PAUL HARVEY

"Stupidity of American Voter," critical to passing Obamacare

enoch says...

so you agree with me yet still downvote my comment?
i thought i was being respectful by explaining my downvote, something i am under zero compulsion to do,at all.

and yet you go off on a childish tantrum and systematically downvote about 3 hours of content in my pque...in FIVE minutes! which can lead me to only one conclusion:
emotional reflex response to a negative analysis to a useless and irrelevant video you posted.

you do not understand why this is irrelevant?
i have to admit a certain embarrassment for you that i have to point this out,but ok,take my hand and i will walk you through it so you can better understand:

1.air contains oxygen
2.water is wet
3.everybody poops
4.politicians and governments lie

you had an opportunity here to reveal just how convoluted and deceptive the process had been perverted and corrupted.how back door deals and the greased palms of certain politicians helped fascillitate the passing of obamacare.

how big pharma and the health insurance industry spent 300 million in the first week alone to kill this bill.or how those very same politicians allowed a tax on that health care bill to remain in the bill.

you could have added context to what really transpired and the mafia principle was in full effect.government gets their slice and the health industry continues to be allowed to plunder the american people treasure.

but no.
you posted a 53 second video of a politician caught in a moment of truth.
a truth WE ALREADY KNOW,with the sole purpose of "look!see! governments are bad!

no context.
no backstory.
no nuanced information to give people a clearer picture on just how badly we are all being fucked.
just a 53 second prop so you can get on your soapbox.

so yeah..the video is irrelevant.

unless of course...you think everybody around you is a stupid child and needs you to hold their hands to reveal the underlying truth.if that is the case you have failed miserably.

well,i dont need you to hold my hand.i am quite capable of coming to my own conclusions.

i am becoming quite tired of your temper tantrums.so if my words have angered your tender sensibilities then feel free to go on another targeted downvoting spree..i really dont care.

@blankfist is a die hard libertarian.thoughtful and precise in his arguments (sans the farting cats),and you sir..are no blankfist.

not exactly a secret.
elites by the very definition feel themselves superior to the befuddled herd (actual term used) and therefore feel compelled to "guide" them and "control" them.
this attitude crosses partisan lines.
so on one side you have educated, indoctrinated elites who disdain the masses but use the language of empathy and compassion to manipulate and on the other side of the aisle you have a perverted aynrand/jesus monster to manipulate the masses.

either way....you are being manipulated.

and there aint NO way the republicans are getting rid of obamacare.only the largest bailout gimme to big pharma and the health insurance industry.that would be political suicide.the entire policy was written by the heritage foundation for fucks sake! not exactly a bastion of liberal ideologies.

just as no republican will repeal roe vs wade.
they will use abortion like a battering ram to get their religious base into a frothy frenzy of hate and self-righteousness,but no way would they EVER let go of that boom stick.

this video is stupid and is only being used to create a platform so a certain someone can jump on his soapbox and preach his religion.

fuck that shit.go on a street corner and peddle your wares.this video has zero relevance.

Colbert interviews Anita Sarkeesian

Asmo says...

I think she's opportunistic and more interested in pumping up her profile than legitimately advancing feminism.

She picked the one media that was guaranteed to get a worldwide furor (the 'establishment' loves to hate vid games, but movies/books/magazines or heaven forfend rap bloody music, meh, yesterdays news) by lambasting mostly male, mostly young guys for playing games where, frequently, women fulfill the same stereotypical roles they do everywhere else in our culture...

The same demographic that is most likely to, clad in the armour of anonymity and mounted on the soapbox of the internet, to say the most horrible and abominable things (things they would never dare say to the face of an actual female)...

She's a troll and she barely needed to bait to get the desired reaction... Ironically, she's also patronising as hell because us guys are obviously too fucking stupid to understand that women are still objectified... /eyeroll

But the internet will keep giving her exactly what she wants (and needs) to stay relevant. Like any good troll, they only go away if you actually ignore them, and that ain't going to happen.

ps. For the record, I have no skin in the GG bs either way, the whole thing is a bad joke and completely abrogated so idiots on either side of the line can insult and attack each other.

Enzoblue said:

I've been a fan of Sarkeesian for awhile and maybe someone can enlighten me. It blows me away that there is that much opposition to her views... She's not really nitpicking seems to me, the tropes she brings up are pretty obvious and irrefutable. I don't buy it that men dominate the gaming and are willing to shoot schools up rather than concede the patriarchy. Who/where are these guys and what is their real opposition?

I try to watch opposition videos, but the ones I bothered with all go ad hominem immediately like rabid dogs and pretty much stay there. What gives?

I also don't like this interview - she's got so much more to say and she's not solely a gamer feminist.

Authorities Seize Family Home Over $40-Worth of Drugs

artician says...

Why are you arguing with someone who essentially agrees with you on something? You brought up points I wasn't even talking about. You just view any response to your sift as someone handing you a soapbox to rant on, don't you? Sheesh.

"Gun control" applies to those who abide by the law, not for those who enforce it. It never means disarming the state and its agents, or even the criminals who don't care about the law. "Gun control" simply means disarming law-abiding citizens, or minorities. In this way, "gun control" would be about as successful as the "war on drugs" (i.e., a poorly disguised anti-minority law). Alas, gun control advocates remain in the overwhelming minority in the U.S. and, if by some fluke, it were to pass at the Federal level, it would be the first regulation nullified by states, counties, and even local law enforcement agencies. Such is the futility of most legislative efforts of this kind.

The boys wish they could throw like a girl

AeroMechanical says...

That's awesome. Since 13 is typically the middle-to-beginning of puberty for girls and, assuming she has control of her 70mph fastball (probably) and can field too, I'd bet she'll be hanging tough with the boys for another three to five years at least. It will be very interesting to see where it takes her.

Kudos to her for enduring the obstacles, putting in the hard work, and most importantly for setting an excellent example for future generations.

I would like to see a shift in the general public's interest towards sports where finesse, coordination, and mental acuity can totally supersede brute strength and speed. Unfortunately, race car driving is the only competitive sport that immediately comes to mind, but surely there are others.

edit: Oh, and I apologize for using this as a soapbox, and I don't mean to detract in any way from her accomplishments or to imply this newscast or SI is evil, but as a counterpoint, I also always feel a little disgusted when the media (with their Nike, Reebok and Gatorade funding) draws a direct analogy to gender equality through athletics. It's a dangerous straw man... but meh, not everything on TV and magazines is responsible for solving serious social problems. It's just entertainment, so I'll shut up about it now.

Who has the softer heart? (Men or Women?)

Yogi says...

So instead of addressing my concerns about your argument, you go on a diatribe about feminism which essentially derails your own post about how this is about medical research being held back.

You're basically proving that I'm right, you chose this because you wanted a platform to punch feminism in the face, not a venue which you can bring in an informed critique. This was supposed to begin a discussion, not set up your soapbox.

What a worthless fucking stupid cunt you are.

Colbert responds to #CancelColbert

ChaosEngine says...

@andyboy, I still don't get why you think Colbert should apologise. Ok, you didn't think the joke was funny, that's fine, I didn't think the ching chong ding dong joke itself was particularly funny and the tweet out of context even less so. But why should he apologise?

Let's get this clear... satire of X is not X. Colberts response was reasonable (he even asked people not to attack Park on twitter over this).

What's really sad is Park's overt racism in the response. So yeah, funnily enough when you start talking about how "white men can't talk about this" people stop taking you seriously.

Actually, one more thing while I'm on this soapbox...

If you're a "hashtag activist"... that is a synonym for "doing fucking nothing". Posting on fucking twitter is not activism, it's posting on fucking twitter, and it's an insult to people who are out doing real work in aid of their causes.

Doug Stanhope - The Oklahoma Atheist

Lawdeedaw says...

Let me translate. "As someone who pretty much doesn't take a position and is either afraid to deny or not faithful enough to believe, or just likes that fringe belief, I can take the high ground and avoid conflict."

And no, I am not speaking of you per say. I am speaking of the agnostics on the "soapbox" who can be every bit as preachy about their lack of reality as the religious and the atheist.

Mordhaus said:

As someone who is pretty much agnostic, I can't help but chuckle at people who follow a religion and the anti-religion folks sniping at one another over beliefs.

I will throw this out there, however, Atheists can be just as preachy as Theists, given a soapbox and an ear or two to bend. Both need to get over themselves, because realistically we still know just the smallest fraction of the way the universe and everything in it works.

The Problem with Civil Obedience

Asmo says...

You're ignoring the entire record of human history... No gov. means a void that people will try to fill. How many warlords are there in Somalia?

From chaos and disorder, the wielder of the biggest club will eventually float to the top. Whether that club is literal (feudal/tribal) or a democratic faction, or a totalitarian regime/police state is immaterial.

But hey, the internet is the panacea for the furious crowd. Now people can soapbox day and night as they order in pizza and consume litres of sugar filled beverages before ordering something else pointless on the internet. Slacktivism at it's finest.

Apathy is the new outrage and it's all the rage.

Shannon Sharpe Rips the Dolphins' Locker Room Culture

CaptainPlanet says...

Seconded.

If your "Thats racist!!!" comment requires the qualifier "because he's black", you're wrong. You're an asshole and you're just wrong.

TBH i didn't even notice the slip-up, because unlike "epithet", "epitaph" is not part of my vocabulary and i just immediately understood him.

but why in god's name would anyone let private locker room exchanges damper their faith in our nation's progression towards equality for all?
There are so many many hateful & bigoted actions committed every day, and you want to soapbox about some guy playing it loose with offensible language...

Just to take it a little bit too far, which of these men is letting skin color more strongly influence the judgements they're making?

Edit: full disclosure i have no idea who any of these people are, what rumors they are talking about, or what is a football

Edit2: just saw the voicemail message LOL HOLY SHIT it is 4chan worthy! racial slurs aside it is the most verbally abusive thing i've seen in a long time (but i still don't know them, so thats just how it feels to me). if i got a message half that severe, i would probably shit myself on the spot (but im not a big tough footballist)

Drugged Up Youth Pastor Freaks Out On National TV

Quboid says...

Even his t-shirt is obnoxious. "Keep calm and" needs to die.

@budzos - I think it's all part of the ego trip that this sort of video is. Not just everything wrong with internet soapboxes but everything wrong with atheism too. This guy's nothing to do with me!
