Running Whitewater Rapids In NZ In A Jet Dinghy

george carlin-the sanctity of life is bullshit

BicycleRepairMan says...

He is not. He is making the point that we made it up. There is a difference. There is no god, we made all that up. Sorry. There is no "sanctity of life" either, its an incoherent phrase that doesnt pass even a shallow honest analysis (as shown in this video)

BUT, and there is a big but, Life is a continuos process, full of degrees and nuances (which, by the way, Carlin makes a point of in the continuation of this clip), and the value of say, a human life, is something that we should estimate on the grounds that we have brains, feelings, relatives, friends and so on.

Saying shit like "Life is Sacred" is both simplistic, hypocritical and complete bullshit. In fact, it is ultimately disrespectful to living creatures whose life should be respected, a point which the ramblings of the anti-abortion team never ceases to illustrate perfectly

Yes, he's making that point. But he also clearly makes the point that there is no such thing as the sanctity of life, that there is no God, etc.

Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins

Engels says...

While a lot of that was funny, his sophomoric understanding of the crucifixion suggests that while he may have been a great mind at some things, he didn't really 'bother' to understand what Christianity is based on. Not in any sort of mature way. His glib and flippant dismissal of it suggests an emotionally shallow person, be that true or not.

Cutting large glass panels by hand seems uncanny

messenger says...

That's not skill at all. That's just what glass does. A very shallow score with a glass cutter and the glass breaks along that line pretty reliably. Grade eight shop class FTW.

Ah, got it. I couldn't find my own photos, but google came to the rescue - here is Lake Colac in its "Colac mudflat" phase a few years ago - http://otway.biz/images/lakecolacdry.jpg

And here's a more normal view after a bit of rain - https://fredodonnellphotography.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/jetties-lake-colac/

The lake's only shallow, so it's prone to drying out completely if there's a drought. It's only happened once in my lifetime that I know of though, although the level does go up and down.

There's a man made lake called Lake Wendouree a few hours north in Ballarat, and around the time that a few years before lake Colac dried up they had to mow it... and started a fire in the dry grass! It was still mud underneath, so it was a bit hard to put the fire out too, they couldn't get the fire trucks onto it

star wars prequel-nostalgia critic gets owned by Mr plinkett

Truckchase says...

I had never heard of "thatguywithglasses" (and thank fucking goodness) before this, but after seeing this guy utter absolute bullshit while wearing my traditional nerd uniform I finally understand why idiots like "The Big Bang Theory".

This guy isn't a nerd, he's a awkward apologist who is stuck in his own, entirely unproductive world featuring whatever pop culture spectacle coupled with his shallow thoughts.

On the other hand, despite being a psycho hooker murderer, Mr. Plinkett is one of us.

Now I'm worried that when I'm in my 60s I'll want to murder a hooker. Ugh, pop culture confuses me.

Batman vs. Darth Vader

poolcleaner says...

Cool video. But, as a Batman fan I downvote this on principle alone. Detective Comics, FEATURING Batman. Not, Batman sometimes -- Batman ALL of the time. You just don't ki... -- SPOILER ALERT --

Batman is a detective above all other things. This is Hollywood brute force shallow understanding Batman. He has the intuition to study his enemies physical weapon, yet not to understand the power of the dark side? Not the Batman I know. He would likely have not placed himself in that situation in the first place, or would have hunted down a relic or a friend with powers to combat Vadar's force powers.

Also, no reference to "fear" leading to anger... Batman's use of fear has even made him a candidate for Sinestro Corps' yellow power ring. Batman IS fear. If this series is against Batman's frequent use of other heroes, he would have gone out of his way to study the force himself, embrace the dark side for which he already serves, and THEN fucking force crush Vadar into submission. Pitiful.

Good video, poor writing based on an inferior understanding of the Batman. This is a video supposedly based on nerd cred, so wtf I have to put my nerd rage somewhere.

I shudder at the future of Batman. Ben Affleck, nooooooooooo... Daredevil... Batman... WHAT NEXT! And, yes, I despise all of the movie Batmen. None are the equal of the actual Batman.

Boats In Thailand Don't Need Water

Go-Devil, mud motor, etc. Not that you are supposed to actually use them like in the video...

But as noted above, direct drive. Output shaft connected directly to the engine. Used a lot in the south for navigating very shallow water.

Star Citizen: Drake Cutlass Commercial

Kalle says...

Its perhaps the shinyness of commercials and shipmodels compared to the very shallow gameplay that rubs people the wrong way... A reevaluation of priorities might be in order.... thats the vibe i am getting from it.

the game is out..albeit in a very very early alpha state. you can play it right now, which by definition makes it very non-fictional

Yes, the U.S. invented consumerism, but after destroying the middle class it's now a broke ass dust bowl.
Countries like Japan and the U.K. have taken shallow robotic consumption to a whole new level.

We Brits learned from the most narcissistic nation in the world, can you really say that Brits are more consumer-oriented or self-centered than a sizeable portion of the US population?

Stunningly real graphics

aimpoint says...

The problem of getting higher quality graphics is what held game design back. In order to scale up the visuals, console games had to scale down other items such as world size, view distance, field of view, number of npcs, artificial loading areas, and so on. Saying that "this" is achievable with a low end PC while console games are holding "this" back is ignoring that these demos are doing the very thing console games have been doing. Cutting back the depth of the image for the glossiness of it.

Here's Hitman Blood Money and its crowd dynamics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNC2X9r0oGY

Notice how simplistic the crowd behaves. Rather than simulating individuals, the crowd is simulated in lumps. Also notice that the textures are a lot "flatter" and blander than a few other levels.

This is the simplest example of cutting back depth in order to gloss over the something else. In this case, gloss the crowd, shallow their brains.

I don't know what legal requirements are, but if it were me, I wouldn't be under sail in that shallow of water...

artician said:

I'd say the only caveat here is that they cut the power to their motor before impact. In a real-world situation that would never be possible, or at least: motor yes, but using sails you're more than likely to end up swimming.

man, I can't even be bothered derailing that video anymore.

I do think it's odd that @gorillaman accuses anyone who disagrees with him of being "intellectually and morally subhuman" and then calls me "a shallow, gawping spectacle-whore", but somehow I am the one that loves drama.

The strange misapprehension that I give a fuck continues for reasons unknown....

No protests from a cadre of familiars yet??...Give em a few ticks. We're sure to witness them they'll jump right aboard the boat to Stroke-and-Polish island, where all such balls are caressed and cared-for with covetous enthusiasm...
