No surprise as I thought her straight roles were pretty bad. Best to leave straight romance characters to straight characters. You can't fake animal magnetism.

Just watched it two weeks ago and I thought it was much better than the reviews gave it credit for. However, I do agree with some of the critics' comments. For example, I felt the romance was forced plus the kiss scene just felt off to me--it would have been more natural if they had just been friends in this film and they saved the romance for a sequel.

There were also some just plain weird scenes--Superman flies to his Mom's rescue but only plows down Zod while leaving his mom alone with five or six of Zod's officers...wtf?

I tried showing the movie to my 2.5 year old (she likes action movies) but the fighting and effects were a bit too realistic for her and she got too scared to watch it. Star Wars (the prequels and the Clone Wars series) are more her speed.

Heh, the way trailers are these days you can save yourself ten bucks and just watch the trailer. And it's not really the condensing of the plot that bothers me, I can understand that, although I'd have to see the full movie to pass final judgement on that part of it. My comments about the romance were based on not just the trailer but things I had heard about the film a while back and that one of the reasons Ender is older is to add some kind of romance to the plot.
This was something that Card repeatedly fought against when negotiating the film rights earlier on, I did at least respect him for sticking to his guns on that point and was disappointed to see him retreat on the issue. (although, after doing more reading on this perhaps I spoke too soon on the romance angle, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.)

Anyways, it will always be an issue compressing a dense 384 page book into 1:30. The movie is just going to be disappointing.

Side note: there doesn't seem to be added romance. That's Ender hugging his sister.

I can't believe Card finally caved in and let them cast Ender as an older teen, all for the sake of onscreen romance. /puke

For a second series that was just inching along prior, the final two episodes finally gained some momentum, IMO. I was stoked with the last two episodes.
But explain something to me (and forgive my lack of names - I'll try to describe them).
The red-head guy who took Winterfell - he made a speech, the guy from the Office clocked him on the head, and the next thing the whole place has burned down. How does that work? Why didn't the 500 Starks outside bust in and stop them? What happened to the red-head? They couldn't burn down Winterfell and then hand him over and just wander off, surely? They'd have them on spikes in no time.
Also, Sansa is told by the Dog that he'll take her to Winterfell at the end of ep.9 - then in the finale he's just gone and she's still around. What?
Apart from that, on the whole, my only criticism as a noob is general pace. Some story lines are left unprogressed for ages, while we watch Rob slowly fall in love with someone. There are so many people we're attached to on cliff-hangers, spending half an episode setting up a romance between Rob and his ladyfriend is just redundant.
Otherwise, it's no Breaking Bad but I like it.


That scene doesn't come off very well in the book either. I can't really tell you what happened in the book without spoiling it, suffice to say that a few more things happened between those two parts of the story. They handled it differently on the show than in the book, and I think they'll explain how it played out at the beginning of the next season. One note though: Robb did say in the show that any Ironborn except Theon could leave unharmed if they surrendered.

Sansa's story will also play out more, you're supposed to be confused.

As to the pace, that's just the way the books are written. It gets so bad that eventually, the two latest books take place simultaneously, with different characters. Book four: A Feast For Crows contains no Tyrion at all, you have to read through to the fifth book to find out what Tyrion was doing while the events of the fourth book were playing out. Weird huh? But I couldn't stop reading them.

I disagree. QT knows exactly what he is doing. Some of his films are dialog driven (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown) and some are genre and/or action driven films (True Romance, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds). I have no doubt he is capable of writing another Pulp, and that one day he probably will, but for now he is doing high-art pastiche of the classic exploitation dramas he grew up with. This is not to say that these action films are less good than his dialog films, they just have different aesthetic criteria.
He is much like Speilberg in this way, if polar opposites in dialog and style. Speilberg has his serious movies, and he has his homages to the serial action films of his youth.
Prediction: Eventually Quentin will eventually get his fill of action films and create another magnum opus, and likely get himself an Oscar in the process. I would absolutely love for him to take his favorite film of recent times, Battle Royale, and make an American-culture-specific version - not a remake of the film, but a remake of the concept as it would occur if it played out with American high schoolers.
Also, comparing QT to Shayamalan is blasphemy. Even Shayamalan's best work was an average film with a great twist. Shayamalan has never shown even an ounce of the writing or directing skills that QT has. Take it back. TAKE IT BACK!!1!>> ^lucky760:

I no longer have any confidence Quentin will make another Reservoir Dogs- or Pulp Fiction-caliber film, and I've made my peace with that, but I will still eagerly await every one of his new projects with fervent anticipation.
(I just hope he never descends as far down as M. Night Shyamalan.)
