Ukraine losing 500 troops daily in Bakhmut fight

newtboy says...

Bwaaaahahahaha.
You are the epitome of a laughing stock…you win…here’s your “biggest boob” trophy. 🏆
Oh you dumbshit….The Washington Free Beacon (a right wing publication) and Paul Singer, (a far right mega donor) paid for the Steele dossier about Trump, then later sold it to Clinton. That’s a fact.
Republicans created the Steele dossier, and most, like 90% of it, is confirmed to be correct, none of it was ever proven false (EG- if the dossier said an anonymous source said Russians have pee tape blackmail material against Trump and it is never found, the dossier wasn’t proven to be wrong at all, it just reported the claim). People (like Manafort) went to prison for charges stemming from it.

But you [are] a foolish ignorant man has no idea of any reality because you watch slanted one sided internet propaganda from anywhere as long as it’s anti American. It’s never correct, it never includes legitimate sources, and it’s 100% anti American, anti constitution twaddle and inconsistent lies.

Since you believe anything you see online, watch this unverified report and enjoy… https://youtube.com/shorts/_f1bYWlfApQ?feature=share
And…

You said near 3 weeks ago that Bakhmut HAD fallen and was under 100% Russian control, proven by the faked Russian propaganda film of someone raising a Russian flag somewhere and declaring victory, but Bakhmut is still not taken, Russians are losing 1000 troops a day, and Ukraine just got 40000 more troops and billions more worth of current military equipment, Russia is using 70+ year old equipment they’ve never trained with and is dropping bombs on itself.
I’m taking sides, I’m with democracy and stability by treaty.
You are too-siding with Russia, despotism, expansionism, and lies.
Russia is losing ground, losing soldiers, losing equipment, losing borders, losing its long term stalemate with NATO, losing billions from sanctions, and is losing this war. Facts are facts, and you’ve never met a real fact you could agree with.

Russia entered Ukraine because they tossed out the Russia installed “president” (his first “election” was thrown out as a total farce). Yanukovych delayed signing a hugely popular pending association agreement with the EU, choosing to accept a hugely unpopular and bad for Ukraine Russian trade deal, leading to his removal from office and, surprise, cushy retirement in Russia.

NATO had nothing whatsoever to do with Russia breaking the treaty from the 80’s in which they and the United States guaranteed Ukraine’s sovereignty and border security in perpetuity if they gave up their nukes. That included Crimea, which Russia invaded too over nonsense lies.
They declared Crimea under terrorist attack (it wasn’t) and invaded “to protect the citizens”. They did the same in Ukraine, recognizing the terrorist separatists as the legitimate (unelected) government and declaring the real government were terrorists attacking peaceful Russians in Eastern Ukraine. (The same peaceful Russians that shot down a commercial airline full of innocent people completely uninvolved in their conflict).

Putin said the purpose of the operation was to "protect the people" in the predominantly Russian-speaking region of Donbas who he falsely claimed that "for eight years now, [had] been facing humiliation and genocide perpetrated by the Kyiv regime". Putin said that Russia sought the "demilitarisation and denazification" of Ukraine, and insisted Russia wouldn’t occupy any of Ukraine….all pure lies. He now says he intends to remove Ukraine from the map and Ukrainians from the gene pool.

It had absolutely nothing to do with NATO….NATO wasn’t considering giving Ukraine, Sweden, or Finland membership before the land grab invasions. You lackwit. If anything it was fear that Ukraine might join the EU….but really it was the loss of their installed Russian president that was beholding to the Kremlin, not any of the lame excuses they’ve made since.

You just love to rewrite history and always expect everyone else to be as ignorant of reality as yourself. Sadly for you, some people have memories longer than a methed out gnat and know why things happened, not just what the perpetrators of crimes say today that contradicts everything they said yesterday and before.
There’s no agreement to not expand NATO. Who told you that, Putin?

But has the actual history, or the nuclear treaty, or the ousting of the Russian planted president by the populace and installation of their chosen president (exactly what you hoped for with Trump on Jan 6 except instead of 2000 people it was the entire country performing a coup) been given on your fake propaganda websites? If so, you missed it all.

You win NOT.
The only Russian nonsense is Hill Clinton and the DNC which paid for the Steele Dossier and proven 100% BS .

But you, a foolish man has no idea of this reality because you watch slanted one sided "news"

Bakhmut has almost fallen -- and Russia is gaining ground. I'm not taking sides but facts are facts.

The question is WHY Russia entered Ukraine. Im sure that NATO breaking their agreement with Russia over last 40 years and entering into non NATO countries has a something to do with it.

But has that question been asked on your fake news outlet?

I don’t think you do, because you didn’t invest slowly at regular intervals over time (unless you lied), you said you invested everything in one stock….lucky for you early when it was reasonably priced ($25?), and suggested to anyone that would listen that they sell everything and go all in all at once even when Tesla was over $400 a share. That’s the exact opposite of dollar cost averaging. Derp. It’s like I know you better than you know yourself…because I paid attention and remember what you said last week/month/year.

You improvident lackwit. When will you stop making predictions? I don’t think you’ve been correct 2% of the time.

Dow’s up 869 points this month, stocks sound pretty good to me. What new bank failed? I see no new failure. I wonder if you understand why the last two failed….hint, it starts with “der” and ends with “egulation”, and was a pure Trump Republican plan passed in 2018 because they had forgotten 2008 already, or wanted to repeat it.

Too busting? Do you mean too busty? I don’t understand the attempted insult… I don’t even understand the concept of “too busty”…but you should know it’s impossible for you to successfully insult me because I would have to value your opinion first.
If I were to put on a drag show for kids, you better believe it would be snap, crackle, and popping…but it’s really not my scene. I prefer my drag queens to be English and of the Python variety, but that’s just a matter of taste.
Don’t you find it odd that drag shows are suddenly such a problem for the far right?
They’re not new.
Many MANY far right politicians that are now suddenly outraged at drag shows enjoyed going to them, organized them, or performed in them themselves at one time. The right could even support them publicly in the 70’s and 80’s. Can you explain why are you ALL suddenly such insecure snowflakes now that, like alcoholics with booze, you can’t stand to be reminded drag shows and homosexuals exist and went all in on some misguided unpopular unconstitutional temperance movement? Why it’s suddenly such an impossible-to-ignore temptation for you? Somehow Trump? Maybe it’s just that your ilk needs a target to scapegoat for your failures and they’re the latest relatively powerless target….yeah…just maybe.

Guess yo[u] don[‘]t [kn]o[w] about dollar cost averaging.

This biden shit show is far from over.
You must be too busting putting on drag show for kids.

Harry Belafonte - Day-O

More than any other performer I often think how great it must have been for the guy who actually played the drums on The Muppet Show - his name was Ronnie Verrell - to get to play with some of the best and most famous drummers of the era, including full on drum battles with people like Buddy Rich.

Apparently (and, I suppose, obviously) he was a pretty accomplished drummer in his own right, but to play as animal must have been an absolute blast.

I had honestly thought his first performance of that song on TV wasn't until 1978, where he did my favourite. Maybe the above doesn't count as it was a stage show that happened to be filmed.

Apparently he was good friends with Jim Henson, which only makes it sweeter.

Today’s MAGA terrorism- Greg Abbot who has telegraphed his intent to pardon a MAGA man who posted repeatedly about his desire to shoot BLM protesters, posted that he was on his way to do it, then went to Austin and murdered one and was convicted of the murder in Texas.

But Greg Abbot likes his politics and hates BLM so murder is just fine with him.
Death, destruction, and debauchery…yep, that’s you bob.

More deaths than WW2 and Vietnam combined, more destruction of the economy than anything ever, more child sex charges, claims of lemon party orgies BY YOUR OWN MEMBERS (Cawthorn), sex trafficking (Gaetz), worshiping the man who admitted he bought miss teen USA to leer at naked young teenaged girls getting changed (also Epstein’s best friend even after his child rape conviction), years of underage congressional page raping (Mark Foley, covered up by other Republicans until it became public knowledge), pedophilic rapist coach protecting (Gym Jordan), and a daily stream of unethical, immoral, often criminal activity you simply ignore despite having multiple examples of it rubbed in your face daily.

What do you have to support your similar accusation against Democrats? Public health taken seriously, the economy recovered, unemployment almost too low, and maybe one or two instances of Democratic individuals accused (not even convicted) of sex crimes, and nonsense insanity about Illuminati pizza pedophiles and Hunter Biden being a multi billionaire, made up nonsense blaming every MAGA act of terrorism on the victims (Pelosi), etc….one big nothing burger.

Bonus- According to multiple employees Tesla has been accessing private footage from customer cars including in their homes, naked, having sex. For years employees circulated these private videos in the company as jokes and memes while publicly Elon was insisting there were stringent safeguards in place that would make that kind of thing impossible.
In California, that’s 12 separate crimes every single time the car is on private property (it’s ok to record in public without notification). Criminal investigations are underway.
I can’t imagine what China will do. They absolutely won’t allow an American company to put millions of cameras in China that the company can access and record just like we won’t let them sell Chinese cell phones in America for the same reason. This is going to hurt Tesla more than you can imagine…people don’t like being spied on, neither do countries.

Double Bonus- The trust fund Crow family, that funded the Ginny Thomas Tea Party political lobbying organization and paid her $125 k per year, paid to build the Thomas library wing, took the Thomases on multi $500000 vacations every year along with people with cases before the court, turns out to be one of the most prolific collectors of Nazi memorabilia in America and his brother is apparently running and funding forced sex parties where sex trafficked women are forced to perform public sex acts for his entertainment. Thomas claims he didn’t have to report the tens of millions in gifts because Crow was his friend….they met years after he was appointed as a Supreme Court justice and became friends by Crow buying his “friendship” for millions in unreported bribes. Your people.

Kids Try Exotic Fruits

cloudballoon says...

Not directed at you, more like pointing out the mentality of the video producer(s). If you're offended, I apologize.

Although I'm less sure of this now -- you can call it borne out of stereotyping/cliche -- but Asians (where most of these so-called "Exotic" fruits featured here are regularly seen & consumed) typically don't go gaga over EVERTHING. Similar to the way British don't typically do standing ovation for every live performance. Easy rewards cheapen everything, as that's especially insulting/disrespectful to the real achievers that put in hard work.

I'm taught to don't just only say nice things... Positive reenforcement is not a bad thing, but gotta earn it, and never go over-the-top. You know, call a spade a spade, constructive criticism and all that probably worth more in the long run, and more illuminating. We don't raise snowflakes in my clan.

FOX and GOP leaders never believed the election was stolen. they don't care about the war on xmas, who uses what bathroom, who got vaxxed, what suit a person wears, any of it. it's always been a grift for advertising/donator dollars and to aggregate power. the entirety of modern conservatism has been about this: money and power. all the pearl clutching and outrage and culture war is and has always been a theatrical performance.

Border Collie Disc Caddy

newtboy says...

Absolutely yes.
My lab carried my disks, rags, place markers, and sometimes even my cigars in her backpack until she was paralyzed. She was my caddy.
My Shepherd would only chase the disk and “mark” where it stopped by touching it with his nose, but I never taught him to sit there so you had to watch him closely. He was not a caddy.
I’ve also known people who performed the same duties for friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, even for the “blind” disk golfer I played with a few times (he actually beat me). I’ve seen people tired of playing all day caddy for their friends quite often.
I’ve also seen caddies used in tournaments.
It’s not the norm, but it’s certainly not unheard of by any means.

Edit: is a caddy a prerequisite for it to be “golf”? If so, I guess there are a bunch of municipal bumpy ball whacking fields, but no municipal golf courses?

I will say, I’ve never personally seen electric disk golf carts.

Buttle said:

So you're saying there actually are "disc golf caddies" that carry discs? Because if not, I think that's just a different category, and doesn't necessarily involve any carrying. Except when you give the mulligan signal.

Chevron Ad

WmGn says...

Professional economist here (hence, perceived as right wing) who began studying economics due to concern about climate change (hence, perceived as left wing).

[1] The classic statement of when markets 'work' is the 'first fundamental theorem of welfare economics'.

[2] 'work' in this sense means 'leads to a Pareto-optimal outcome', which means an outcome in which no one can be made better off without making someone worse off. This is a low standard: an outcome in which I have everything is Pareto-optimal.

[3] the conditions for the welfare theorems are generally not satisfied in practice. Here, as alluded to in the ad, carbon emissions are 'externalities': if an oil company sells you gas, which you then use, both of you are better off, because you're assumed to have taken into account the effects of your exchange, and decided to proceed; other parties have not, so may be worse off.

[4] in general, failure of the welfare theorem conditions isn't enough to make the case for government intervention: the outcome may still be 'constrained' efficient - meaning that, given the inherent constraints in the problem (e.g. asymmetric information), the market outcome is Pareto efficient.

[5] again, even if it is, you may not like the particular constrained efficient outcome the market yields (e.g. I get everything).

[6] in the case of externalities, the theory is pretty well established - if we want efficient outcomes, we need to align the private and social costs. There are two basic market-based tools for doing that: quantity tools (e.g. carbon permits) and price tools (e.g. carbon taxes). Which performs better depends on the sort of market imperfections.

[7] obviously, we will never have a perfect estimate of the efficient price or quantity of carbon to emit in a given year. Equally obviously, to me at least, this is a classic case of an externality with a well developed body of theory pointing in the direction of some level of controls.

[8] in my experience: people familiar with the economic theory tend not to be 'pro-market' or 'anti-market': they tend to want to understand how the market can be used to deliver societal objectives and, when it can't, how to correct its imperfections.

I wonder….do you differentiate between a poor soul duped (intentionally or not) by misinformation and a public performer actively spreading it?
IMO, it’s more like a zombie virus….once infected, once duped, you become a spreader yourself.
This guy is a super spreader. A fast running zombie that exists only to make more zombies.

It’s fine to have sympathy for the poor soul that became a zombie, but he’s gone now, don’t feel bad or have sympathy for the zombie he became….please! That only leads to more infection that’s easily avoidable.

If nothing else, the video gives us room to discuss some specific viewpoints held by people who think of themselves as good, but which can lead to harm.

Brainwashed

moonsammy says...

Oops this turned into a semi rant. But I am legitimately open to discussion here, and am curious to get your thoughts on a few points Bob. That is, IF you're willing to actually think about them beyond the level of repeating talking points.

I find it interesting how divergent the two overall "sides" are in this country, in terms of where they focus. None of the issues brought up in this video are really on the radar of most progressives, beyond being aware some on the right are talking about them. And I'm guessing a lot of the concerns progressives discuss rarely come up in your chosen media landscape. A lot of the issues in the video are largely off of my radar, and I have to wonder how you feel they should be addressed - like, actual proposed solutions rather than just complaining about / worrying about them.

We only dedicate one day to remember our fallen soldiers

How many should there be? Arguably we have more than one already: there's Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and it seems that Sept 11th is often used for the purpose as well.

I'd argue we should spend more time acknowledging and understanding the principals behind WHY our soldiers died in the various conflicts which caused them to fall in the first place. Let's make sure our citizenry appreciates what we collectively rejected in the Revolutionary war. Why it was important that we kept the country together rather than allowing the south to split off in the mid-1800s. Why we chose to honor our diplomatic agreements and support our allies in WW1. Why we fought against the countries and governments we did in WW2. What our goals were in Korea and Vietnam, and what lessons we learned from those conflicts and from the Cold War in general. Commemorating and remembering those we've lost absolutely matters, but if we're ONLY doing that while forgetting why they fought OR ignoring what we learned then we're doing them an equal or greater disservice. Remember that America was built on the idea of forming "a more perfect union" - not a perfect one, a MORE perfect one - a work in progress. We're striving towards an ideal, not assuming we're already there. Learning from our past successes, failures, and our struggles around both outcomes is vital. If our self-analysis is no deeper than hero worship we'll never make real progress towards that theoretical perfect union.

The only mask that's gonna save us is duct tape on their mouths

Yeah, sound medical advice and evidence-based science is terrifying. Better to shut up those whose words we dislike, because we're reactionary authoritarian babymen. I truly do not understand being more afraid of reasonable safety measures than of a virus which has been shown to cause serious harm in the short and long terms. The only reason this "masks = liberal / maskless = conservative" crap came about is because politics has devolved to the level of team sports in the US, and one party has chosen "the opposite of whatever our political opponents say" as their entire governing philosophy. (And yes, ONE party - research and understand the GOP's 2020 platform if you want to argue the point.) This video even seems to reach a reasonable conclusion at the end, while coming up just short of that final logical leap to "maybe I should question what the public faces of MY side have been claiming in this Us vs Them madness." Seriously - keep going friend, you're almost there! George Washington was 100% right in wanting to avoid political parties being a force in the US, and it makes me immensely sad that his fears came true.

Big oil runs the world / the only wars to get fought are with the countries who have natural resources they want

Solid point here, no sarcasm. The US military has long been a tool of our profit-driven form of "free market" imperialism. A really great way to combat this, specifically with an eye to ending Big Oil's goddamn death grip on our foreign policy goals, would be an aggressive implementation of renewable energy projects. Remember the space race? America can be an absolute beast at clever engineering solutions when we dedicate ourselves to it. Fuck the petrostates, we have the available land and resources to absolutely kick ass in the realms of solar and wind power, and be leaders in the the post-hydrocarbon reality. We can certainly agree on that, right Bob? Left / Right nonsense fully aside, I think any reasonable American can agree on at least two points: let's stop sending heaps of cash to buy oil off of the Saudis (etc), and Fuck Cancer.

But if a white man acts too white he's white trash / he's a racist he's a bigot he's a monster

What the fuck is this horseshit? What does "acting too white" even fucking look like? Watching NASCAR on a sailboat while listening to polka? Typically when I see racism from white people it's in the form of denying that brown-hued people deal with any additional difficulties in life due to their skin tone, or denying that there have been structural obstacles for them through history, or lamenting that their white children are being burdened with a broader lens on culture or with (gasp! shock!) an accurate accounting of actual US history, including the ugly bits that we shouldn't be proud of (but MUST learn from). I'm progressive / lefty as fuck and there is no aspect of "white culture" or "acting white" which upsets me in the slightest. UNLESS one counts "denying racism exists / has ever existed" as a fundamental value of being white. Which... why would anyone want to claim that nonsense? If you want to listen to classic country music in a rusty pickup truck while driving to an evangelical church, then discuss hockey over Buds after 18 holes with the rest of your tractor pull team, then absolutely go nuts my fellow caucusoid! Just recognize and understand that your life experiences may not be the same as those of others. Further, if we care about trying to avoid unnecessary, avoidable unfairness in life (recognizing that life will never truly be fair, for anyone), then it might be reasonable for some governmental / legal / structural recognition in furtherance of that notion. There is absolutely room for legitimate policy disagreement here without being accused of racism. It's denial of others' reality which tends to garner the label of racist (sexist etc) - steer clear of denying the lived experiences of other people, allow for the possibility they may have encountered difficulties you haven't / won't, and we've room for further discussion.

Edit / final point: I voted the video back up to 0 from the -1 where I found it. Because while I disagree with a lot of the positions taken by the performer, they may have reached them through no fault of their own and with no true malice.
