Lovely. Looks like an approach that would make every instrument (and passanger) start screeming that you are about to crash.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if campers that are not unpacked or sitting on a lot/owners driveway are bound by open container laws and such. Since you don't really have any legal course to camp in most parking lots and public roads, the camper remains a van until such time. This is speculation on my part since I actually haven't run across a case like this.

Some useful info for you to know. In Canada, don't do this, it's the same as getting behind the wheel intoxicated. Even if you have no intention of driving. Intent is 9/10ths of the law on this.

But the point is moot. Take 9/11--in a way. Passangers, together, could have easily overwhelemed the attackers. But no one tried, from my knowlege... Only when the PA flight knew they were doomed--but that is besides the point. It is a me-first mentality when others are around. Kitty Grovese would still be alive if I had been around--why? Not because I am a hero. No, because I would have shot the bastard. Or, died trying. Either way, my wife would have demanded I ignore it--as though I could.

Sadly, I say a me-first mentality, because you can observe this behavior anywhere. School? No one raises a hand, until someone else does. If humans are good at one thing, its that we are great sheep...

The Kitty Genovese story is a bit over blown as an example of the 'bystander effect'.
First, it was 3 am. Most people were asleep.
Secondly, there were only 6 witnesses. Not a group of thirty watching idly
Third, at least one of the neighbors called out "leave that girl alone" which frightened Kitty's attacker away for a short time.
Lastly, at least two [if not more] of the six witnesses called police/911. Once after the first attack and another after the second.
Not to mention, Kitty's murder, Winston Moseley, was captured thanks to neighbors whom disabled moseley's car and called police after they noticed him causally stealing a television from one of the nearby apartments.
Tho i get what you're saying.
It seems like people in cities are way less caring and considerate.

There's no good excuse not to have this on all smaller planes and gliders. I doubt the extra couple of thousands dollars I'm guessing this system could cost, isn't too expensive if it can save your life.
I also always wondered as well why commercial passanger planes couldn't have a similar system installed (yes I know they travel much faster, but still there has to be a way).

747 gross weight: Around 650,000 lbs.

It's not the speed difference that prevents parachute systems from being used on commercial airliners, it's the massive weights.


Well, you can't forget that the space shuttle rocket boosters and tank are all recovered because they parachute down after use. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard producing a parachute strong enough to support an airliner. (and it doesn't even have to be a single one. It could be sets of 3 for example on several key structural points). The problem with speed is if the plane is going at least at cruise speed, and suddenly deploys the parachutes, it's an extremely fast stop, and people inside would break their necks. Of course multiple stage 'chutes like Larsarus mentioned would do the trick.

I love this guy. He endangered people only slightly, no more than drunk drivers who get misdemeanors at most... I say, if you charge this guy with a felony endangerment charge, then charge every DUI, every child neglect, every blah blah with the same.

And what of the battery from the passanger? Charge her with reckless endangerment too...

Huh, so that's how it works over there. I've been pulled over and fined three times (the vehicle inspection wasn't up to date, never could remember important dates...) and been a passanger on one occasion. They wrote the report in front of us, told us to read through it and sign it.

Don't know if that's the policy when you're being arrested though.
